I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

3 man team, 2 to score today. T'was a family affair with my lad, and son in law making up our 3 ball.

Jamie lost his ball off the 1st tee, it was just off the fairway but we could not find it anywhere, and I lost my 2nd - missed the green left but not by a large margin. Leaves, long semi rough and a bright low glistening sun made ball spotting pretty difficult.

Having hardly played for the last 6 weeks, it was enjoyable, but typical winter golf.

Being stuck behind a very slow ladies 3-ball competition (that somehow seemed to have disintegrated into a 6-ball in a couple of groups 🤯!!) meant the 18th green was almost in the dark, which would normally make me a bit cross.

But following a couple of recent lessons that changed my wrist angle and hip rotation, my consistency is massively better and I broke my best score of all time, and not just by one shot either 🥳. Impossible to be anything other than rather happy with that.

Really enjoyable round this morning, but chilly but the sun was shining. Our final round robin winter league match, which we won 1 up in a really close match which had some really good golf in (for our level). Every hole was won or halved with Atleast a par.

I just really wish I had a short game 😂

Started with a lovely dive only to make a double......par then a shank 9 iron for bogey, well that is my handicap gone.

Finished 7 over (23 points) and it still was a flag for handicap, 115 vet's playing.

Have not heard what the winning score is but will update later.

Oh right.
I was just a little confused as everyone I speak to wants to get their handicap as low as possible.
Takes all sorts I suppose.
I'm one of those who always seeks to lower his handicap.
But when you get a 0.6 rise due to having had a good round 20 scores ago, you can choose to be irritated or you can embrace the chance of the slight improvement in competitiveness.

For myself and most people I know one of the games many challenges is to have as low a handicap as possible.

That was the case with both the old and new system.

Went over to Knaresborough for the first time in about 4 years and had my name down as a single. Caught up to everybody at the start of the 7th. The threesome in front of me kind of apologized for not being able to move....just said there was a really slow 4 ball in front of them. I finished 7.....waited a while at the 8th tee and that 4 ball was NOT moving. Just packed it up and went over to the practice field for 20-30 min. Strange to play at Knaresborough for the first time in 4 years or so.

Didn't play as I gave up after a bad run of games a few weeks ago.

Committed to lessons and practice for the next 8 weeks instead and today got off to a fantastic start with irons. It just all clicked and a consistent draw, with plus 10 yards per club - bonkers, but happy.

Gorgeous, crisp, cloudless winter day today - excellent golfing weather. Course in good nick, rarely seen it better in any December .

Out a little later today....not something I feel will become e the norm if the pace of play on the front o is anything to go by.
Just over 2 hours for a 3 ball on the shorter 9 isn't what I signed up for....lots of standing around, a cold wind but at .east it was dry and sunny.
A meagre 13 points ......but I did par 8 and 9 to give a bit of momentum into the back 9
And....3 pars, 3 bogies and 3 pars for 19 points was the result. Respectable.
Lost a ball on the 2nd...into a low sun, I hit what gelt like a good 7 wood 2nd shot on a par 5 and.....gone.
None of us saw it, although I thought it was fairly down the middle.....blob...

Wife is away for three days which means no golf this weekend - used up a day's leave to play today instead with the little one at nursery. Two of my mates managed to get it off to join me as well.

Teeing off at 9:10 this morning was treacherous as the teeing mats were covered in ice, which meant 70% chippy swings for the first 5 holes. Consequently we pretty much forgot about making a decent score, just chipped it round and had a laugh. Four points in those first five holes for me, but played fairly decent after that. Ended up with 26 points in total, albeit about three of those were slightly cheated. 😂 Mates were 27 and 24 so all in the same boat really. Only made 3 pars, drove it quite well but couldn't hole a putt all day, until the par putt on 17 I finally drained one.

Had a nice club sandwich in the clubhouse, then me and one of said mates decided to go back out for a quick nine hole match on the front nine. It's amazing how much better you play with firm ground under your feet. 😂 Or maybe I just love match play better than Stableford stroke play nowadays. But I was two over par and 3 up after five holes. Mate mounted a great comeback by winning the next three (two of them shot holes for him on which we both scored the same). Then we halved the 9th for all square so played the 10th as a play-off hole. I hit a nice 7 wood to the front edge and two-putted for the win. Five pars and five bogeys, so a damn sight better than the morning round.

Bit tired now.

Thick frost/ice on the car this morning didn't bode well but by the time I gotmto the club it was 3 or 4 degrees warmer and no frost...
Started pretty decently, rattling off 6 pars on the bounce..to be fair 4 of them included putts of 25ft, 18ft, 12ft and 10 feet but there's no pictures on the card...
A couple of bogeys and a par and I'm turning with 20 points....
The wind was fresher on the other 9..and colder...
The first 3 holes were a struggle and CVG was tempted to walk in
But the sun came out, the wind dropped a little and we soldiered on.
Played some solid shots but let a few go towards the end.
35 points is more than acceptable on a day like that..

Well, that was wet. Some rain in the week, a lot of rain last night. We fully expected the course to be closed. It wasn't.

Off we went, the rain came again, it stayed. We came off after 12, it wasn't fun and the course was becoming unpleasant (it's since been closed)

Drove the ball well, irons were decent. 4 wood went well today, very pleased with that. I'm hitting down with it rather than sweeping 👍. Putting was a bit silly due to the weather so no worries about that.

Pleased to have gone out. Even happier now I have my cake, a big cup of tea and have the football on 😊

Played today in the first round of a 36 hole Open, had a massive hangover from a Xmas party....., my own fault.

Had 33 points, with a silly 3 putt and then a 4 putt.......boy I hate golf, or maybe it was my prep.

Hit it well off the tee but my short game was garbage. 3 3 putts and 4 putt for good measure. Not the greens fault, they are unbelievably good for this time of year and the weather this week, just one of those weeks where I forgot how to putt.

The 9th green did start to have standing water on it when we got there, some standing water on the 10th fairway as well but everywhere else was pretty decent. Not sure how much more rain courses in this area can take though, more rain this week I expect places to start closing.

Ground was wet but the rain held off for our Stableford comp this morning.
My best round in ages spoiled by taking 4 putts from inside 10 feet on our horrible hilly 17th green.
Still managed an 86 for 37 points but lost on countback to my playing partner. Only one other person broke 30 points today so PCC might give me a little cut.
