I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Wonderful morning of winter golf today. We've had a lot of rain all week and I expected us to be closed today. It wasn't, winner. It was wet but we have mats for all 18 tees and we have chosen to use mats on the course. No muddy shots, no muddy clubs.

We decided to do a 2 man scramble, one of us off 17, the other 22. We played to scratch 😊. We both played really well, dovetailed when required.

I was trying to exaggerate my follow through today, transferring my weight, and on the whole it worked very well. Lots of clean strikes, good shot shapes. We missed out the soggy section so played 14 holes, 2 1/2 hours. Missed the rain that was due. Very, very enjoyable 😊

Same here. Loads on the tee sheet took their names out due to the forecast I guess but we checked this morning before going out and it looked fine. Great morning, hardly any wind and not even that cold. Course is on the Dunes layout due to 11, 13 and 14 fairways being wet but still on fairways and main greens with preferred lies on short stuff. All the fairways we played on were still firm underfoot and the greens are excellent just now.

I didn't play great, shot +5 and had to get the beers in again. My mate shot -4 and should have been lower, I need way more than the 4 shots I'm getting.

😳 the shoe fitting worked re transferring weight 🤔👍

It did. Where I was previously trying to do it, and failed, having to finish in a particular position is forcing me through the ball.

I might not have a new pair of shoes but I'm hitting the ball sweeter 🤣
As daft as it seems. I was deffo finishing the swing off on Thursday. I remember one par three I pulled out a 7 iron hoping to hit the front if I hit my Sunday best. It pitched in the middle of the green into the wind. 😳

Played a bit later than normal, just after 11-ish. Proved to be a smart decision as the worst rain was in the morning - we still had a bit of miserable rain and strong winds for our first six holes though. Couldn't hide under a brolly either since it was carry only (only worth using brolly with the trolley really).

I doubled the first, three-whacked it since I didn't do any putting warm-up and green was faster than I expected. Played great after that though. On the 9th I had an annoying bounce-out off the flag - I think 9 times out of 10 it means you hit it too hard, but this was the 1/10 that I know absolutely would've dropped if I'd have taken out. Alas, was too lazy - so that was a second double, but five pars meant I was only six over with 16 points to my name at half-way. The match against my 18 handicap mate (giving him 7) had been good as well, with each of us taking turns to win holes at the start, but at this stage I was 2 up.

Birdied the par 3 10th with a cracking 7 wood onto the back of the green, so that put me 3 up. I'd been struggling slightly with too much fade on my drives, but I started hitting them more and more solidly as we went along on the back nine too. Two lovely pars on the back to back par 3s (14th & 15th) saw me win the match 4 & 3. In the end my back nine was only four over par, so a ten over 78 was my final gross score, for 35 points.

Delighted with that score on a sodden course with awful weather to start with. My short game was really good too - if anyone read my short game thread this week, you'll have seen it helped my clarify a few things in my head and just commit to a way of chipping and pitching that worked really well for me today. And while my driving was ropey on the front nine, it was pleasing that I could still keep them in play, just leaking into the right rough - as opposed to last winter when a bit of wind would see me carving it 60 yards right. Lots of positives!

Best round of the winter so far. 6 bogies and 4 birdies for +2.
Drove it so so. Not perfect but got it round. Putter was the star today. Holed a few nice ones. No 3 putts and just one from about 5 feet I felt I should have made.

Playing Vet's comp at another course tomorrow, over 100 player's from all around, I will need to shoot 4 under off my 3 handicap to have a chance, hopefully the 33C forecast will knock a few player's out.
