I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

A mate text (yes it it text), yesterday morning so ask if I fancied a knock in and extra stableford in the afternoon. I've not played for over a week, but weather forecast was good and he's a mine of info so I agreed. We were both dreadful, him off 7 as well. Still I had a good listen to him as we walked round. Afterwards we watched our superstar. off +3, tee off on the 10th. Then his playing partner off 2. The difference was immense. +3 smooth as silk, perfect finishing position. -2 player not as good and poor finishing position and off balance.
Me? oh finished next to last with 24 points. Cider was nice.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::whistle:

Another breezy day....didn't hit the ball as well as yesterday and we were off the whites rather than the yellows but a solidify 35 points gets me a small cut.
Got a week off now..going to the in-laws......
Going to feel strange not playing for a whole 7 days......

Played Royston GC with a pal today. Only half an a hour away but the first time I've been there.
It's a really nice course in great condition compared to most around us after the long dry spell.
Only 5700 yards off the yellow tees but with quite a bit of extra walking we covered 6.5 miles - the same as my usual 6600 yard course.
It's challenging without being particularly difficult and has some really good fun holes; a few interesting par 3s and 350 yard downhill par 4s that were drivable for my big hitting mate.
It's not for the faint-hearted either. It's very hilly. The 13th hole is the steepest gradient I've had to walk up on a golf course.
Friendly clubhouse too. I can really recommend it.

I played there last year with PJ87 and it nearly killed us. We had 35mph winds as well, it was a joke. 🤣 They need to install a defibrillator at the top of that 13th...

Edit: Due to some 'smart golfer network' thing my club has joined, I can now go back to Royston and play it for free apparently. 😯

All dressed and nowhere to go...

Arrived at the club this morning and it was 50/50 who wanted to brave it - after a bit of hanging about, the greens staff cancelled the comp.

Yes first comp of the year cancelled for water logging at ours today.😳

The baked hard fairways of a few weeks ago seem a distant memory now.

We were theoretically open but my group cancelled. I've seen nothing so far to suggest we made the wrong decision. It would just be a wet slog out there today.

The good news, everywhere is looking green again 😄

I set off knowing I didn’t want to play and my playing partners agreed. As we were chewing the fat, they closed the bottom half of the course. Some die hards stayed to play a few holes.

I’ve a social round booked tomorrow, so might just get up and see how it looks.

I'm playing in an open tomorrow so it was easier to cancel today knowing I'll get a golf fix this weekend still. Saying that, if the amount of rain promised does come down there is every chance tomorrows course will be closed. Hopefully it won't be that bad.

I went in early for the rollup......only 7 actually made it there. It was really wet and was going to continue that way most of the day so I went home....ended up getting an email from the course saying it was closed just after 8. Rain should stop around here the middle of the night tonight so if I were playing tomorrow I think it will be fine.....the water is still sinking in to the ground quickly.

Messy first two holes dropping three shots, but kept things solid thereafter to knock it round in a 6 over 78. Was thinking I’d struggle to replace the 1of8 7.1 sitting at the bottom of my 20…but turns out my 78 replaces it with a 6.3. No PCC adjustment overnight will see my HI drop back down to 5.7, and back to my all time low.

ETA: No PCC so 5.7 it is. Great what I can achieve with occasional lesson and some time on the range. Mind you chance of winning handicap comp is diminished these day - Saturdays was won with 42pts…gotta do one under par for that and given my best ever is two over…🤷🏻‍♂️ Best chance is a load of 🙏though it don’t work that way 🙄

Well.....that was quite the rain yesterday. From just before 7am to maybe 2am the next day. I know one of my courses is open this morning (Ripon), but it drains a lot better than Oakdale. That is the most rain I've seen in most of a year.

Played yesterday. Was finals day but we got a slot in between the matches. Course in great nick after the pro am on Friday and the forecast rain only happened when we had finished and were safe in the bar. Played in a t shirt and wished I had put my shorts on instead of long trousers.

Played well but once again I had three-hole brainfart that ruined my score. First nine (back nine first) I was 5 over with four pars, five bogeys. Then I doubled the 1st, 2nd and 3rd with some awful shots. Then miraculously back to playing well like nothing had happened and finished with three pars and three bogeys in the last six. 82 scored for 32 points. Infuriating.

We were doing a fun betterball match of me and 19 hcap mate (7 shots in the match) against 12 hcap and 15 hcap (3 shots in match). Me and 15 hcap were going toe-to-toe on the first nine which ended all square. Then when I had my rubbish spell that saw us 2 down, and so it stayed as we lost 2 & 1. I missed an easy two footer for half on the seventeenth hole of the match which would have took us down the last.

Playing great for 15 holes and still going home annoyed. Golf!

Having played poorly for quite some time I was delighted to finish 2nd today with 106 entrants in the medal competition. I finally realised that I wasn't keeping my left arm straight and doing it properly today I shot nett 68 (3 under)

Hopefully a decent handicap reduction tonight

Played with my son at a local indoor sim and dod the old course, St Andrews, followed by a little par 3 course.

Not a massive indoor fan, but the Trackman stuff is pretty impressive.

Open at Middlesbrough, Brass Castle, today 4BBB. Classic parkland course and very nice too.

Walking up to the practice area, who do I see but our very own @2blue . On a trip with his friends doing a double header of Middlesbrough and Cleveland. We ended up playing with two of his group, smashing guys.

For the first 10 holes I felt weirdly detached, arms, body, brain. No part of my swing felt connected, nor my putting 😱. I managed to scramble through but it was uncomfortably unnerving. By the 11th I finally managed to get a handle on things and stuff came back together. In particular my short game, 100yds and in, really stepped up. Much more fun 😊

38 points, no question the majority from my pp but I did contribute well on the back 9. On that course, no run after yesterday's rain, we were very happy with that score.

Well worth a visit if anyone is looking to put together a trip to the area. Seaton Carew, Cleveland, Middlesbrough, take a combination of those. You won't be disappointed.

Had a very enjoyable social round with @nickjdavis yesterday who wiped the floor with me despite using rented clubs and never setting foot on the course before ☺️ The fella just doesn’t miss his line
Wasn’t able to arrange tropical sunshine for him but hopefully the short showers didn’t dampen things too much

It was a pleasure to meet you (y)

Really enjoyed myself thank you. Mont Choisy was an interesting layout which was plenty challenging in the wind off the chosen Blue tees...the Yellows might have beat me up a bit yesterday. The rain was fine...made me feel right at home...midday tropical sunshine might have made things a bit tougher.

Thank you for your excellent hospitality for what was technically my first "forum meet" ....over 10'000km from home.😂 Best of luck with the Club Championships next weekend.
