I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Captains’s Day medal comp. Good front nine, terrible back nine. But I played today with perspective, so not in slightest bothered at a terrible net score. That said, got frustrated with my inability to hit a decent 6i or 7i on the course - anything even vaguely like what I can do on the range would be OK, but hey…perspective.

I played yesterday and shot 82. My last four rounds have been 81, 82, 81 and the 82 yesterday. I just cannot seem to get in the high 70s. It seems like I always make one or two double bogies. I had a four month layoff starting in December due to knee issues. I finally had the surgery in late January. I came back in mid-March and have played pretty well but I haven't broken 80. Hopefully, I can get back on track and eliminate the dumb mistakes that are holding me back. You'd think after playing for over 60 years I would be more consistent. I guess old age limits one physically and mentally.

Club Championship yesterday. The morning round, the rain never appeared, was pretty calm and once the sea mist cleared was a good morning. Had a really boring round, shot 78 with 6 bogies and 12 pars. Just couldn’t hole anything, had 3 putts stop an inch short in the middle and had 2 that lipped out. Was pretty disappointed with it tbh. Pin positions were a joke, nearly every one was 2 yards from the edge of a green on a hill.

Afternoon the rain came and didn’t leave. Was too hot for full waterproofs so elected just for jacket and let my legs be free to the elements. My new J.Lindeberg brolly decided that 15mph wind was just too much for it and snapped on the 2nd hole. 2nd time I’d used it, not too impressed with that.

Didn’t play well in the elements, hit the ball crap, putted crap and ended the second round with an 83 and shorts, boxers and socks stuck to me. Need new shoes as well. Luckily I planned ahead and had a full change of clothes in the car.

Didn’t stay long after it as the club had rented out the clubhouse for a private function and said we had to be out the bar by 7pm. 😮

Much the same for me at the moment.

I played really nicely yesterday for 34 points, but the three blobs were all down to really silly mistakes. Infuriating ones which, rather than working with and salvaging something, I compounded with another bad shot or decision.

Those three blobs aside I was only a couple over and playing some really nice golf.

As usual. 😂 Shot 67 in the morning and 76 in the afternoon (shows how the conditions changed) to be the only player under par. If not for him there would have been a 6 man playoff for the title which would have been interesting.
Anyone ask for the flag to be tended?
Asking for an acquaintance ;)

Had our second football team golf day of the year - only 6 could make it this time though. Playing at Little Hay - I was geared up for it to be rain throughout, but we got incredibly lucky with the weather. Chucking it down on the drive there, the rain stopped just as we teed off the 1st. Quick downpour on the 10th green and 11th tee was all we got after that! And chucking it down as we sat in the clubhouse afterwards. 😂

I played very well but the greens were unbelievably slow - I would say the slowest greens I've ever played. Benefit of the doubt, I guess with all the rain yesterday and the warmth they could have grown up a fair bit overnight, but they still must have been pretty long in the first place - they looked like fairways!. Even whacking putts we were leaving them 4 and 5 feet short, it was ridiculous. Took me a while to get the hang of that, so a couple of early doubles and finally made pars on the 6th, 8th & 9th.

Two fantastic birdies on the back nine - approaches hit with 7 wood and 6 iron - really helped me score. Had a stupid blob on the 16th though when I four-putted the ridiculously slow green - my first putt was the length of the green and uphill, I physically couldn't hit it hard enough and was like 15 feet short! In the end though it was 19 points back for 36 total (85 gross, 13 over par).

It was a three-way tie for the lead, amusingly. I won nearest the pin though - won my own sleeve of balls back since I was putting up the prize for it. 😂

Class day though. Should be another cut coming since I put a card in.

I played on Saturday and played really well despite one triple and one double bogey I managed 3 under handicap.

One disappointment it seems that every time I there is one player in the swindle who plays even better than his handicap.

Everybody had to applaud the winner though, he has not scored more than 30 points on most occasions but on Saturday he scored 42 points.

I out for a bit of practice this morning, played the front nine in a 2ball, we both re hit a few shots, back nine I caught a 4 ball up, so skipped the par 3 12th to get in front, and played the rest again rehitting a few shots, so 17 holes in total, I then went onto the putting green and hit a few putts, put my gear away and had a half at the bar, and was till within 3 hours of my tee time. Last Friday it took 5 hour for 18 holes, just couldnt believe how quickly I got round today without rushing.

I played Royal Ashdown Forest Old Course yesterday- total millionaire’s golf with only a few 2-balls on the course. A good test with lovely greens and some truly hateful heather which acted as a proper hazard.

Only slight disappointment was the quality of the fairways which were in absolutely shocking condition- burned out and with lots of bare areas / cracks - so much so we had to play preferred lies.

Highlight was a 1ft tap in on the 249 yard par 3 for birdie, closest I’ve come to a 1…ever I think.

Would love to go back, but once the fairways have recovered
