I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played a couple of persimmon and blade events Thursday and Friday at Fleetwood and Heysham in Lancashire.

At Fleetwood I played a 1930s set which weren't the best in terms of gapping but I managed to get into the upper 20s Stableford so not a complete disaster.

Heysham, however, was a complete disaster. I'd collected a set of HB&S Pinseeker clubs on the drive up that had been advertised on Facebook, nice set complete with a Ray Cook putter. Hit a decent tee shot on the first but things quickly went downhill, poor drives, usual sorry excuse for a short game and leaving a lot of putts short. Couldn't even muster enough points to get into the twenties! 😦

@Voyager EMH played too and managed to get the nearest the pin at Heysham, winning a nice wedge, hopefully he'll be along soon with a picture. 👍
Hope to join you next year if going 😉

Monthly stableford this morning. 38 points, no blobs in there, and despite the last few holes being a real struggle in the rain, I was really pleased with my efforts, not least because I have a low counting round dropping of my EG record, so haven’t done too much damage!!

Might win a few quid, too.

Bad medal round today .. made a bad decision about a playable lie .. should have taken a drop. Then it was a complete melt down with dreadful results.. oh well another day

Just our Saturday rollup. And a slightly bitter sweet experience as we finished off. I knocked it round in 3 over par...and I'm dead chuffed with that - even off the Purples it's 40 pts. But, but, but. I was one under after 12 and going along very nicely until a couple of unlucky breaks saw me dropping 4 in the final 6 holes...darn!!! Chance of my first ever level par round thwarted. I don't care that I didn't win the day as my bestie at the club did - with 43pts.

Ah - the legendary Maxfli Australian blade...what a club...never had a set but boy they are bonnie.
You've seen them here before

Funny old game today. Another medal board comp. I played really well, again - even driver was behaving, had one of my best driving days. But I couldn't get the putter going at all. Three times on the front nine I hit green in reg and three-putted - happened again on the 13th too with a dirty 270° lip-out. I just couldn't get the speed down for some reason.

In the end I was net two over with a score of 81 (with 37 putts 😬) - but I was delighted. Why? Well, for the first time ever on an 18 hole round (I'm pretty certain), let alone in a medal competition round; I had no double bogeys. Only five pars, but the rest were all bogeys! The only decent putts I did hole all day were scrambled bogey saves. So that is another milestone ticked off!

Should be a tiny cut too of 0.1 or .2 if I'm lucky. Definitely feel like I've turned a corner in the last month or two and the good rounds are outnumbering the bad ones at the moment. 👍🏻

Stableford comp this morning and I shot 78 for 33 points. Was disappointed with the round, 13 pars, 4 bogeys and a stupid double. Felt I played well, only hit 2 bad shots all day but just couldn’t hole any of the birdie chances I gave myself. Missed 3 from 8-10 foot and 2 in the 14-16 range.

Just one of those days, felt I hit good putts, had about 3 really good par saves but the birdie ones just wouldn’t drop. Also left 2 putts an inch short in the jaws.

Still, it’s a counting score as I have another 78 counting but it’s way earlier. With my recent ridiculous form it means I only have 1 counting score in my next 10 scores.

Today was Captain's prize to the ladies, a popular competition, I started with a double bogey after my chip to the green ran off the back, not a great start, on the 2nd I had a wedge to the green, I caught the club on the back swing and didn't pull out of the shot, the result a thin way though the back of the green and I failed to reach the green with my next, I lost my partner very suddenly earlier in the spring and I have been struggling mentally and am constantly on edge, I found myself on the 2nd green shaking, I ended up 4 putting for a 9. My nerves were no better on the 3rd and I took 12, then after am annoying double bogey on h4th I finally calmed down and for the next 12 holes played really well, sadly I had too many 3 putts or I could have played those holes in level par, I had half a dozen 3 putt bogies, I finished up with 2 more double bogies. MY net 86 was 8 shots more than anyone else.

A very frustrating afternoon, it didn't help with my playing partners telling my to calm down, I wish I could have done.

You played on.
You played the game.
Right to the end.
That was important.
Well done.
My admiration.

Open today at Thorpe Wood, Peterborough. For the first 8 holes continued with my recent abysmal form. It was a medal, but to that point would have scored just 5pts in a stableford. Something then flipped and I started striking the ball really well and the confidence came back. For the next 9 holes (9 to 17) I net birdied all of them, before a 9 on the last. Overall a nett 76, but the main takeaway is that I can still play this game (at least for a nine hole patch).

Club Champs this weekend and wasn't a great day for me on Saturday. Shot a 87 for a net 73 and missed the cut for the second day.

150 entrants and only 50 make it to the second day. The cut mark was a level par round net.

Was a good experience for the first champs at my new club. Just didn't get any luck and a fair few putts missed which caused issues for scoring.

Out early, lovely morning.....
Steady, solid round....nothing spectacular but nothing worse than a bogey and only 7 or them...
78 shots, 35 points and.......

A probable cut to 4.9......Jeez I like making this game as hard as possible don't I..... :ROFLMAO:

Seniors 4BBB match at Kibworth (course in great shape @GG26 ).
We had a to and fro match but managed to sneak ahead near the end and dormey two (started on the 18th to try and finish the match earlier).
We made a hash of the 16th so onto the last for us, the 17th. Opponents both got their tee shots away but my partner pulled his into a tree and the deep jungle, I followed him so we were both three off the tee!

We carried on though as you never know in matchplay. :ROFLMAO:
Opponents then proceeded to make a proper Horlicks of it too and we ended up halving the hole with a nett double bogey and so won 1 up. 😳

Turned out to be crucial as well as we won the match 4.5 to 3.5!

took a drive down to the North Wales Golf Club at Llandudno today, what a super course, I really enjoyed in even though some the greens has horrendous slopes on them, I have also played Conwy and I reckon a prefer North Wales, it has a good variety of holes with some tricky greens and as back to back par 3s near the end.

i played pretty well despite starting and ending with double bogies, the 1st due to not knowing the course and the last due to an uncharacteristically bad wedge to the green. in between I played steadily and played under my handicap.

Well worth the 2 hour drive and worthy of a return visit.

Played at Winterfield, Dunbar recently in an outing with my old employer, it was bordering on unplayable due to the wind, I absolutely played out my skin and knocked it round in 72 off 6. I'm in the 2nd last game as those only playing one round go off at the end, walking into the lounge I'm almost accosted by the 'Chuckle Brothers' the two other reasonably low h'caps, both lower than me, who know I'm the only other person playing who could possibly return a decent score in the conditions, due to playing regularly in the wind at Dunbar. They're doing the cards and I'm told they're currently sitting first and second. I know that there's not a chance they knocked it round in less than 72 in the conditions, 'What did you score, can you beat 69' I say nah 72, cue the big cheesy grins and much back slapping.
I slip my card to the bottom of the pile of cards to be checked and sit facing away from them to wait the eruption. 2 or 3 minutes later it goes off, 66, sixty effin six, i though you said you scored 72 !
Trying to keep a huge grin off my face I casually say 'yeah 72 gross, you asked what I scored and I said 72, oh wait you thought that was my Net score, oh dear never mind, does that mean I won both the Gross and Net prizes, ah well you'll just have to try a wee bit harder next time lads !
