Mixed foursomes this morning. I played really well, and we were 4 up at half way, my putter was on fire. Then we ultimately lost 4 of the last 5 holes and ended up losing the match 1 down somehow. I cannot win a match to save my life this year. Don't even think I did a lot wrong, we were unlucky on a couple of occasions and my partner missed a couple of holeable putts. But no way we should have lost that, our opponents weren't even making pars. I'm having a serious think now about whether to bother entering any knockouts next year. All I do is lose them all and feel crap afterwards.

I would say golf giveth and it taketh way, but it doesn't, it just takes and takes at the moment. Gutted.

Played yesterday in an annual industry golf day, this year it was at Redbourn GC nr St Albans. It's a good course for the variety of handicaps playing (mainly higher) and it's always a good day out.

Anyway, the morning 18 holes passed without incident and we were on the 11th hole of the afternoon 18 when 3 pikey's approached the pair we were playing with and made some claim about the rear wheel being wobbly and they'd been sent by the pro shop to ensure it was safe. Before anyone could do anything they jumped into the buggy and made off across the course. Initial response was disbelief and then how were we going to catch them in a golf buggy (we were walking) then realised that they were in a golf buggy and so a gentle jog would do the job. There was then the scene of 2 4 balls (the group behind had witnessed the event) running after a cart of thieving travellers across the golf course whilst some of the group were also on the phone to the pro shop.

The shop sent out their marshalls although at this point they'd abandoned the buggy on the 18th green and were just sat on the clubhouse terrace laughing. Apparently there's nothing the course can do about them as it's got public access. Fortunately nothing was damaged or stolen and the round continued after this brief interlude!

That sounds very annoying indeed

NR in the medal this morning. Was a few over and drove right on 18th.. got up there and no sign of it. Couldn't be bothered to walk back. Didn't even consider a provisional as it didn't seem in any danger at all.

Club championship was last Saturday and today.
36 holes gross score. Winner is club champion.
Rubbish format, in my opinion, done for the first time last year.
Top 8 go into draw for Scratch Matchplay board comp.
After last Saturday I was tied 13th. Very poor.
Only objective today was to make top 8.

I have finished 7th.
Which means I avoid the +1.4 club champion in the draw. He plays 8th place.

I hope they will go back to 36 on one day next year.

Invitation Day at my old place today. 4BBB and we played OK as a team and ended with 39 points which doesn’t sound great but there was a 2 to 3 club wind. The other team we played with only had 32 points, so conditions were pretty tough.

Enjoyed the day, was good to have a catchup and was also good to hit shots into greens that actually stopped on the green. I was excellent off the tee but my approaches were complete garbage, chipping was really poor and I duffed 2 of them but new putter is still good.

That wind was crazy, we were struggling to stand up on the 12th tee, never mind hit the ball

35 points for us, ok in the circumstances- my partner had a bit of a mare, only contributing on a couple of holes. Didn’t help that the one hole I didn’t score on, he failed to do so as well.

The rare double dip weekend for me, was my birthday this week so got to play Saturday and Sunday. For once there wasn't a lot of wind today, still made no difference as I was crap again. Well, I should just start saying I was average as this is my new level. Wasn't great off the tee, irons abysmal again, chipping much better and putting was good without anything dropping. I hit a lot of putts to where I was aiming but they just skimmed the edges.

I'm still loving the new putter, the roll on long putts is night and day compared to other putters I've owned. The amount of putts from 40+ foot that I'm rolling up to 2 feet short or long is unheard for me, not even at my home course at other places as well (admittedly on 2 of them so far).

Monthly Medal today with threats of heavy rain and thunder. Started off in lovely blue skies and sunshine with a mere zephyr of a breeze to ruffle what little hair that I've got.

Some high/low lights from todays round...

Low: Totally misjudging the pace of the 5th green and three putting from around 25ft.
Low: Smothering my approach into the 6th green into a bunker
High: Holing out from 120yds on the 7th for an eagle
Low: Watching my perfect shot to the heart of the 10th bounce as though the green was frozen solid, straight into the branches of the tree that sits 20 yards behind the green down a steep slope (the resulting double bogey cancelled out the eagle on 7!!)
High: Hitting a lovely wedge to six inches to guarantee par at the SI1 13th
Low: Leaving an 8ft par putt in the jaws of the hole on 16.
High: Generally just playing very solidly all round especially on the back nine where I shot 7 pars.

Overall a gross 76 leaving me with a nett 66 and, at the time I left the clubhouse at around 4pm, I was leading the comp.

Should (notwithstanding any PCC adjustments) see me replacing an 11.3 differential with this one of 6.6 which would reduce my index by 0.6

Centenary trophy and I had an odd round today 3 pars and a birdie on the front nine, but also a 10 and an 8, the 10 was slightly unlucky, I had hit poor shot that finished in a penalty are but when I took a drop the ball rolled and finished in a hole where all I could do was try to chop it out and I put it back into the PA, The back nine was steady with 2 pars and another birdie but an unfortunate bounce on one of the par 3s left me in a nasty spot from which I had a triple bogey.


With the erratic play, my game is certainly more suited to team and matchplay comps at the moment

9 holes this afternoon, first time out with the Jail bird square 2 square .. 14/18 putts better than normal.. sunk some good putts! I use a spot putting and some distance feel stuff ( I reckon the body knows stuff and I let it decide) . For a 2 club wind I played under my handicap, which is down to the putting.

Cracking day at Ormskirk in a mixed. 38 points with three blobs. I birdied the first and the 14th, a two! The wife pared a par four with two shots! We had four 4's on the card. Shot of the day for me was a 50 meter chip over a bunker to the green stopping the ball dead on landing 30cm from the hole. This was after their lady had done a lovely chip over the same bunker but not stopping the ball like my pro shot. We beat our super playing partners who were a pleasure to play with. And, when we left I was still winning the nearest to the pin, although, as tricky a green as it was, it was not really close enough to think it will be enough. Still, great day out on a fantastic track. Very long par fours. Perfect greens. If you are near by this place go and treat yourself. Next up.....Sandiway, the day after the wifes birthday.

Was booked in Medal 6 yesterday - had a funny feeling my pp might be a no show, and I was correct, so ended up having a casual round with one of the other members. Hit the ball ok, scoring was garbage.
Before my 10.30 tee time I’d been up to Halifax Golf Club where the youth was playing for the union against York. Foursomes in the morning - Halifax and Huddersfield took all the points, Jamie was partnered with an 11 year old lad who was making his debut and was a little nervous - but they know each other well as he’s also a member at Dewsbury - so gave him plenty of guidance, advice, lines on putts etc. It was all over just after the turn with the boys recording an 8&7 victory.
I returned there just as the last few singles matches were teeing off - took my camera to get a few snaps for the people that voluntarily organise these events. The weather turned a bit grim for an hour or so and the wet, windy and hilly conditions probably played into the home sides hands against lads that play a lot of their golf on the flat courses around York. Not many matches went to the latter holes, and HHUDGC took 20 of the available 24 points in the singles. Jamie shook hands in his match on the 13th green - 3 dropped shots through 13 holes against a lad off 3.8 was good for a solid win.
The Yorkshire Inter District League is tough for some unions, York and HHUDGC don’t have a big pool of clubs to source juniors from. Leeds and Sheffield have around 40 I believe, so they tend to dominate - but it was all in good spirits yesterday.

Halifax Golf Club is a cracker btw. Some spectacular views up there.

It was our clubs Captains Weekend and lo and behold I won it on a count back . I had a 69 & 63 giving me 132 . Another lad had 62 & 70 but because I had a better score on the last day I won on count back .. I really thought I had no chance of winning the comp when teeing up on the 2nd day , but I had a great start , par , par , birdie . I completed the round with a 78 gross on a tough course which was my best ever round beating my previous 79 . Name on the board and handicap back down to 10 . Great weekend

When I first started helping out with comps etc at the club there was one person who took me under his wing and who knew every comp rule inside and out , he was there on every major comp day doing the scores

He passed away about 5 years ago and we created the comp and named it after him , first time I have been part of a team that won it

Club Champs this weekend. Was looking forward to it, as the first one I had played in but I was bad. Off the tee, I was pretty good but approach shots - awful. Couldn't buy a putt - putted well on the faster greens but holed nothing and must have led the table in tap ins, as too many lip outs/holes shaved.
Stupid thing was, I played the more difficult holes well, as probably had low expectations but easier holes were played as if I had changed to left handed (no offense to lefties).

Friendly seniors match at Royal Lytham St Anne's today. Fabulous day, despite a fairly strong wind at times. The greens were probably as good as I have ever played on.

The recent course changes have improved things, and will hopefully see the course hosting the Open in the not too distant future.

Final match in our shield league today, we have already won our group and qualified for the regional final but we were keen to finish on a high. I started well and combined with my opponent's slow start I was 3 up after 5, then I started pulling short putts and 3 holes on the trot I dragged the ball left on short putts, and after 8 was only one up, my opponent was not playing a lot more confidently and putting well and when we got to the 13th, her 2nd shot hole I was still just one up. fortunately for me she messed up and I managed to halve the hole, I then went par birdie par and happily won the match 4&2.
I was a little worried about those putting woes and I hope it is not something creeping into my game.

The team ran out 5-0 winners too, so a good result all round

9 holes tonight putting still good! Wind was strong again tonight. I took a more thoughtful approach today. I addressed the mistakes of last night. No birdies, but no double bogeys or worse, which is a positive thing. The work on my chipping has started to show some improvement, which is really positive.
Last nights driving was dreadful and I made sure tonight I was more committed and that gave better results.
