I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Saturday - club match against South Beds

Played very well , giving 18 and 10 shots to opponents , teammate had 10 , 4 birdies in the front 9 and all 4 for a half 😂

The guy with 18 shots was a short game wizard

Ended up 3 down with 5 to play ( still under par ) - 1 more birdie and 3 pars got us to 1 down playing the last - par 5 , smashed driver miles , on the green in two , solid eagle to win the last for a half 😂

It was the only half we got as we got smashed 5.5 to 0.5 😂

Sunday swindle -

Started bogey , Birdie , birdie , bogey , birdie, bogey 😂😂

Then 10 straight pars , finished bogey birdie for solid 36 points

Betterball knockout today. I played abysmal on the front nine, and looked absolutely nothing like a man who shot 79 yesterday. My partner was playing well and kept us in it though. Back nine I picked up the slack finally and put some good holes together - but we were always playing catch-up against two higher handicappers who were getting shots left right and centre, yet making pars and getting up and down for fun. We recovered from 3 down to all square, but every time we got back to AS they would take the lead again. In the end we made it to the 18th but lost one down. Annoying but the same happens every year in this competition, high handicappers always seem to save their best days for playing us. 😂 Roll on next year.

You admit to playing abysmal on the front nine and then complain about higher handicappers getting shots and playing their best against you when you lose by one hole? :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like the handicaps were spot on to me. :D

Scratch match today at home against Yeovil. It was too hot. Morning 4’somes and my partner and I were 1 down with 2 to play. We won 1 up. We mugged them, as the only time we were up was when we walked off the 18th green.

Afternoon singles and I won 3/1 with a nice hole out for an eagle 2 on the 17th.

Team won 10-2.

It’s been a good week, but 5 rounds in the heat has taken its toll on my feet. Some nice blisters on my toes.

Nah my partner was playing exceptionally well, making pars and still losing holes ultimately. These conditions favour high handicappers too since they can duff a tee shot and it still rolls out 200 yards.

Plenty of golf over the weekend in our house.

It was Captains weekend at Dewsbury so Jamie was up there on Saturday - Gross 76 might see him in the prizes. I took the bag of old Slazengers up to Willow Valley on Saturday evening and had some fun with them.

Then yesterday it was the Halifax and Huddersfield Strokeplay Championship - hosted this year at Willow Valley - it's 36 holes played off scratch with a max handicap of 10 - so I can't play in it. Jamie entered, but had a poor round 1 after some good form. Round 2 was better with a gross 81 knocking off the highest counting score on his index. Two cuts in 2 days sees him down to 5.4 now.
Lad that won the event yesterday shot a couple of 3 under 69's - he's headed over to West Lancs today for a practice round before he tees it up in Final Qualifying tomorrow.

we had our ex lady capts competition yesterday, struggled a bit on the greens early one as ours are much faster than the course I played on saturday but settled down and played pretty well until messing up the par 3 last, I did get a 0.1 handicap cut though and we had a lovely meal afterwards.

The first of our two 36 hole comps this weekend and the first time the course has been set up with every hole off the very tips. Very windy on Saturday but still incredibly hot, Sunday was just hot! The pins were in some ridiculously tough locations, especially considering how difficult it is to hold the green.

Only 3 players under nett par for the weekend.

3rd place for me, just a couple of blow up holes costing me....a sh#$k on a par 3 resulting in a triple for eg 🤦‍♂️

The curse of the 4th round got me again. When I start playing better, I usually get 3 rounds in before I start "trying harder"......which results in death and destruction. Today was the 4th round. Really happy with the way I started and hit the ball really well for the first 8 holes....then 5 holes of garbage when I started trying harder. The good thing is that I was able to relax and get back to hitting the ball really well the last 5 holes or so....which is unusual. It usually takes me a few rounds to get relaxed again. I couldn't get a putt to drop or I would have had a decent score.

WE had our Lady Captain's day out today, we went to Haydock Park GC, I really played well, it was a team of 3 with 2 scores to count and I contributed on all but 2 holes, Had it been a singles I would have scored 38 points, particularly pleasing was my putting, I did have a couple of 3 putts but I also holes a couple of decent length putts too.

Played Yelverton today with my wife. Wow, it was hot!

What a smashing place to play golf. Lunch before, was great and very inexpensive. £45 to play on a County Card.

Great views in every direction, lots of young foals on the course running free as well as sheep.

Great course. Super mix of holes and interesting design. Greens nice and true, although a bit slower than idea. Heat protection possibly? Nice folk everywhere we went.

Highly recommend

Blistering heat and humidity here in Suffolk for a club Seniors competition...so hot that one of our fourball had to have a buggy called out to him to return him the the clubhouse as he could not continue after the 9th hole which is about as far away as you can get!! Two ladies in the group behind us also had to leave the course due to heat issues.

Driving was all over the place today and only hit 4/13 fairways...to be fair, of the misses, only on three holes were they bad enough to make the second shot a problem. Greens in Reg likewise suffered as i only hit 6 of them and putting was a bit off as the greens are decidedly fluffier and slower than they were on Sunday...though to be fair if the g'keeper cut them in this weather then he'd be a bit of an idiot as they would pretty much die such is the lack of water. 33 putts..1.83 putts/GIR and 1.83 putts/non- GIR.

Chipped in for birdie on the 7th after fluffing my approach shot, took a treble bogey on 13 after putting my tee shot in all sorts of bother which took 3 further shots to find the fairway.

Gross 81 for 35 points though so I scored better than some of the golf that was played. 5th place out of 30 golfers. Got a 2 as well....so will be a few £££'s for that.

Seniors friendly away at Diss on Thursday....lets hope its a bit cooler by then.

Day 1 of our Notts trip and we played today at Mapperley.
I played like utter 💩 but what a lovely golf course. Very hilly and very challenging. Beautifully constructed around the landscape. Garmin watch says I've climbed the equivalent of 81 flights of stairs.
An absolute steal at £20 with a county card. Very highly recommended if you're in the east midlands and don't want to pay silly £s for one of the premium courses.

Competition results published and I've moved up in the overall "best 5 from 8" standings from 25th to 14th place....though I've only got three counting rounds whilst all bar one above me have 4 counting rounds. Trouble is, I'm missing the next two rounds due to holidays so by the time I get to play round 7 in October, everyone will have got their 5 scores in and will then only be looking to improve on their worst score. I'll then be playing catchup with my final two rounds trying to overhaul whatever points total is at the top.

If it was done on averages I'd be in 2nd place at the moment. But its not, so I'm not!!!

Day 2 of the Notts trip yesterday.
I had stuff to attend to in the morning but dropped the guys off at Springwater GC in Calverton. By all accounts another cracker in lovely condition. £23 with county card.
In the afternoon we played Oakmere Park GC, just outside Calverton. I've used the range many times but hadn't played the course before. £24 with the county card and a very impressive club and course. Hard to believe it's 4 miles from where I grew up. Another cracker built into an impressive landscape and really well layed out. Some brutal holes with enormous fairway bunkers. Some pretty and short par 3s and a couple of crazy doglegs with mental elevation changes. It was very challenging without local knowledge. I'd like to play it again.

Playing Woolfox near Grantham today on our way back down south.
Edit: near Stamford, not Grantham.

There are some lovely courses in Notts, shame its a couple of hours drive away or I would play there more often.

Last home game 2 under handicap, could have been better except for my pairs partner - 1 hole blows his nose very loudly right on my downswing, next holes jumps on to his buggy seat with a loud 'boing' just on my downswing. At least on the next hole he took my hint and stayed well away from the tee whilst I took my tee shot.

Best ball stableford all square at the end. Swindle singles score did not matter as winning score was 42 points.
