I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

There are some lovely courses in Notts, shame its a couple of hours drive away or I would play there more often.

There certainly are. Some of my favourites are there, which I have played over a number of years when visiting friends and family.

Hollinwell, Coxmoor, Sherwood, Stanton-On-The-Wolds, Newark, The Nottinghamshire - just a few really good courses. Golfers in the county certainly aren’t short of options.

Played in a "major" comp at Ripon today. I had two bad holes with double bogies (3 putt from 8 feet on the first hole) but still only 6 over for the round (33pts)....playing well most of the time right now. We were told one of the guys from our rollup group came in with 49pts.
What's his h'cap out of interest ?

Yesterday in the Medal?
Played like a tart and shot 86.
This morning, same tees, same pins.....75
Bloody stupid game...
I'm similar, been suffering a bit from tendinitis in both arms and frankly playing crap, recently I've shot 85, 88, 74 and 83 off 6/7, god knows where the 74 came from
As an aside I've gone from 5.2 to 6.7, next score to drop off is a diff of 4.2, if I don't shoot around 78/79 I'll be up to 7.2, shows how quickly it can change, 10 shots off the white medal tees !
Most shots I've ever got in 50 + years, you can't hold back ageing !

If I've got it right with a quick calc in my head if you had shot 10 under gross you would have tied, you got a problem with that 🤔🤭
Do you put cards in? Interesting to see what is h/c is tomorrow if he has.
I'll check in a day or two to see what happens to his h/c. It wasn't a big comp numbers-wise since it was on a Thursday....why a big (major) comp on a Thursday you might ask? ....no idea. Only 50 or so in it I think. 49 wins and 38 was second. The guy was in my rollup group yesterday and played badly every other hole....I imagine today he must have cuts the errors out. I tend to feel guilty playing in rollups these days since I have a hard time adding points to the team although I had two 4 pointers yesterday.....birdied two of the three holes I get shots on. I don't play at Ripon again until next Thursday....so I'll have to look up his h/c to see the resulting cut.

I played in a stableford today, it could have been a great round but all my usual faults crept in, I was on the first 4 greens in regulation but a couple of missed 2 foot putts meant I only parred two of them, a couple more bogeys followed one should have really been a par, the non 7 and 8 I found water, then I parred 9 through 13, only to blob the 14th, two more pars on 15 & 16 and then a bogey on 17, before failing to find to find the green on the last and the ball rolled back into a penalty area to finish with a 3rd blob
9 pars, 2 three putts, 3 visits to penalty areas for 34 points pretty standard round for me these days

Seniors friendly away at Diss on Thursday....lets hope its a bit cooler by then.
Got gubbed 6 & 5.

I was the low guy off 10 and ended up giving 6 shots to both opponents and 10 to my partner.

Our opponents were 6 up after 9 and level par gross as a pair - actually it was mostly just one of them doing the damage, but on the couple of holes where he hit poor shots, his partner backed him up.

I didnt start really playing until the 6th hole but by then we well down and despite all efforts over the next 6 holes (including actually winning a hole) we couldn't match in any way what our opponents were doing. We played out the remaining 5 holes and by the time we'd finished, the guy who was our chief tormentor finished 8 under his PH with a nett 62. I myself ended eventually ended up with a nett 70.

My partner wasn't happy about it and kept going on about how it was unreal that they kept paring everything, but I just told him that sometimes *** happens and that it wouldn't last (how wrong was I!!) and we just needed to be ready when their form cracked.

We went down 4-2 as a team.

9 holes tonight. I was working on my release having a tendency to hold off etc .. which seemed quite successful. Managed to drop 3 shots on 1 hole. But it was all a bit odd .. drive into the wind was massive and I was trying to get a wedge onto the green it landed short and just died, no ping or pong.
So I dropped all my shots on 3 holes. The rest were all birdie chances which were missed ☹️.

Raining today but managed to nip out in a relatively dry spell got round in 2 and a quarter hours which meant I missed most of the rain. Golf a bit mixed though.

Played yesterday in an annual industry golf day, this year it was at Redbourn GC nr St Albans. It's a good course for the variety of handicaps playing (mainly higher) and it's always a good day out.

Anyway, the morning 18 holes passed without incident and we were on the 11th hole of the afternoon 18 when 3 pikey's approached the pair we were playing with and made some claim about the rear wheel being wobbly and they'd been sent by the pro shop to ensure it was safe. Before anyone could do anything they jumped into the buggy and made off across the course. Initial response was disbelief and then how were we going to catch them in a golf buggy (we were walking) then realised that they were in a golf buggy and so a gentle jog would do the job. There was then the scene of 2 4 balls (the group behind had witnessed the event) running after a cart of thieving travellers across the golf course whilst some of the group were also on the phone to the pro shop.

The shop sent out their marshalls although at this point they'd abandoned the buggy on the 18th green and were just sat on the clubhouse terrace laughing. Apparently there's nothing the course can do about them as it's got public access. Fortunately nothing was damaged or stolen and the round continued after this brief interlude!

Crazy!
I take it the buggys don't have gps for playing the course (then the power cut-out 'lock' can be set when any buggy strays into/out of an area not defined)

Manchester & district ladies singles even today at Pike Fold, Apart form a couple of iffy drives I played very well on the first 9, 5 pars, just one double, then we started on the back 9, continued to play well but suddenly lost the pace of the greens, couldn't get the ball to the hole and had 4 three putts, finished up with a net 73 and will get a few points shaved of my handicap but I left feeling I should have had a much better score.

Just back from The Cotswolds Club for my mates yearly golf trip.

Thursday's round, I felt like I played really well, struck the ball nicely, but the course was just unplayable at times. Fairways burnt out and dry as a bone, countless times I hit lovely fairway woods up the middle from the tee, and they just sloped off the fairway behind trees. Absolutely nothing more I could do except laugh it off. Only part of my game I wasn't happy with was chipping as I skulled a few, but again it's not easy chipping off a marble floor. Approach shots bouncing through the back of the greens as well. Ended up on 28 points. The people who scored well were the high handicappers who could just punch it short and watch it run and run, and had the extra shots to account for the bad bounces.

Second round this morning, I definitely played worse but scored slightly better with 30 points this time. A couple of holes I was able to learn a little bit from yesterday and hit something a lot shorter off the tee and just chip my way down the hole - but on some other holes there was just no right answer really. Chipping was still cack as well. Also my driving was in the bin - only hit it on about 4 holes, but where it was good yesterday I lost the plot and hit two massive hooks on the same hole today (first and provisional), which isn't my usual miss at all. Kept it in the bag after that.

Ended up finishing 4th out of 7 so a mid-table finish. My wife took the trophy though with 37 and 34 so it came back to our house anyway! 😂
