I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

The pro mentioned it to us before we went out and told us it's PL on fairways due to the damage. I honestly didn't think they were any worse than I've seen anywhere else recently. Everywhere is scorched.
I just really liked everything about the course. For reasons I can't quite explain it reminded me of Teignmouth - my all time favourite golf course.

Clacton GC today. The rest of my party seemed to like it. Decent condition but I didn't think it was a patch on Frinton as an interesting golf course.
Must admit...I agree about Clacton, in terms of how interesting it is compared to Frinton.

Was meant to have a mixed foursomes match but opponent cried off last night. Entered the monthly medal instead to get another comp round on my record, but wasnt too fussed about it.

Ended up playing a blinder. Solid front nine, only one bad swing really when I had a wind-assisted slice out of bounds on the 8th, but rescued a double by parring with the second ball. Started the back nine with four straights pars, then a couple of bogeys but only 4 over back nine to finish on gross 79 - two under in the medal! Only one double and eight pars is some going for me. Haven't won the comp as someone managed 6 under off 18 shots (six under is literally an impossibility for me, I'd have to shoot 75 which is madness), but I'm currently 2nd in division one on countback. And I should get cut from 15.6 back to 15.0. Happy days!

Wind was brutal today, probably 35mph. Played in the stableford comp and ended on 33 points which wasn't bad considering I blobbed the first, super stiff first tee swings, sent not one but two balls into the sea and considered just going home. Probably would have went home if it was a medal. Had to chip out sideways into the rough on 8 from a fairway bunker as I was up against the face and that was the only shot. Also had a penalty shot on 14 which is a 495 yard par 5. I had 125 to the flag after my drive, hit it 360 according to Shot Scope, that's how stupid the wind was. Nipped a 3/4 gap wedge from the fairway that landed 15 yards before the pin and it them promptly released 40 yards through the green and into the ditch at the back. Was absolutely fuming. 😂

Putter was ok today, not great. Kinda lost the pace of the greens halfway through the round as the wind was playing havoc with putts as well. Couldn't stop them downwind and couldn't hit them hard enough into the wind.

We had an interclub shield match today away at Brookdale GC, a quirky course in East Manchester, it was a top of the table clash with the winners progressing to the area finals.

Personally I had a close game but lost the match due to my opponent holing several nice putts and me holing nothing, however 3 of our other 4 players won their games so we are through to the regional final at Lee Park in Liverpool, a club that was home to several Forum members back in the day.

I played yesterday, 1st time in 2 years, had really bad hand dermatitis for a year and also post viral infections for a year. My 15 year old has taken it up and plays a lot at his local 9 hole course (Sturminster Marshall), anyways I played with him. He was -1 through 3, I was 3 over through 2 :). Anyways ended up 1 over for the next 7 and he ended up 2 over in total so he won but I was very happy. Playing again tomorrow with my other son, same course.

It's good to be playing again

Yes I’ve had a hand injury lately and it’s just nice to play again if not a tad frustrating that it’s sub standard.

But who cares.👍

It would seem that the membership at my place all know how to play in 30mph winds as there was a PCC of 0.

Comp was won by a senior I played with a while ago, he shot 80 which is his age or maybe 1 under his age now. Mighty impressive shooting that score from 6500 yards in those winds. He’s the guy I said that he must have been some player when he was younger and it turned out he was a scratch golfer in the late 50’s when he was a teenager and he went on to be a pro.

Best gross on the day was 74 by a plus handicapper.

As they say, form is temporary, class is permanent.

There were very few scratch golfers back in the late fifties so he must have been extremely good, can you give his name?

Betterball knockout today. I played abysmal on the front nine, and looked absolutely nothing like a man who shot 79 yesterday. My partner was playing well and kept us in it though. Back nine I picked up the slack finally and put some good holes together - but we were always playing catch-up against two higher handicappers who were getting shots left right and centre, yet making pars and getting up and down for fun. We recovered from 3 down to all square, but every time we got back to AS they would take the lead again. In the end we made it to the 18th but lost one down. Annoying but the same happens every year in this competition, high handicappers always seem to save their best days for playing us. 😂 Roll on next year.

Yesterday was one of those days that left me thinking " will my consistency return?"
A little bit of everything
Army golf
The dreaded you know whats
Hitting all over the club face.
Bunker shots were either magnificent or awful, same thing with driver and 3 wood off the tee.
At least the putter behaved itself to save some sort of reasonably good score.

Stableford comp today in memory of one of our group who passed away a couple of years ago.

For the most part I played really well, the recent upturn in form continues, drove the ball well (with one exception) hit great approach shots, putting was generally good.

21 points (2 over gross) for the front nine and 17 points (7 over gross) on the back nine.

Missed a couple of 3 footers for par on 10 and 12 and then had a horrible downhill lie in a bunker on 16 which took two strokes to extract the ball from the bunker. The horror hole though was the last hole. id driven exceptionally well all round and on 18 proceeded to carve my tee shot OOB with vast acres of fairway to aim for, the 2nd shot almost followed the first, then double crossed my 6 iron approach to the green, hitting a pull hook instead of a fade, a punch through the trees and two putts later completed the ballsing up of what was a really good round.

The Elyte mini-driver is giving a really good account of itself, a real weapon of accuracy... used on the 1st, 8th, 9th and 14th finding the narrow fairways or just off (in the case of the 9th where balls tend to follow the camber to the right) setting up decent approaches to the green. Just wished I'd taken it on the last!!!

F/ways: 10/13
GIR: 10/18
Putts: 33
Putts/GIR: 1.9
Putts/ non GIR: 1.75

I think my 38 points was about 7th (joint with about 4 other 38 point scores but at the rear on countback) behind a 42 and a 41 point score at the top of the table.
