I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Last few weeks I've gone from 5.3 to 7.2. Starting to think knitting might be more fun. Went early today to hit a bag of balls....absolute crap. Almost sent a Whatsapp to the group asking if somebody wanted my spot. Struggled a bit with the swing early but got steadily better and ended up +5. Just when I think it's all gone....it comes back. And won £3..... Golf is going to put me in a mental home at some point.....

Last day of our golf trip, Muckhart today. What an absolute gem of a place. It has 3 x 9 holes, it's a rolling parkland, possibly heathland course. In fabulous condition, the dry weather helped the ball travel well as long if you stuck to the fairways (I know, it's obvious stuff). Lots of shape, good greens, fair approaches. I'd happily recommend it to anyone up in the area.

Played well today, drove beautifully apart from one horrible pull. Hit the ball nicely, good short game. Much better pacing with my putts, helped by the greens being in good nick. Best I've played over the three days, won the pot today and to my great surprise I won the 3 day cumulative prize as well 🥳🏆.

Great few days and remember the recommendation, Muckhart 👍

Played on Sunday, my handicap index of 24.2 was 0.1 higher than the max handicap allowed to enter board comps, so while @Imurg and PP were in the comp, I did a general play card instead.

went round in 96 or 41 points or net 67 (taking into account the 95% hcp comp thingy) which would have put me 3rd in the comp.

Anyway a cut to 23.5, now I am semi retired I want to really work at my game and despite my physical limitations, would very much like to get down to 18

Thats my target,

The Quest for Mediocrity begins now :)

More beer.....the great source of mediocrity.

As I was playing yesterday I stooped over to mark my ball that was on the fringe and I stood up quick and said "what am I doing, I can't mark now". A playing partner said "sure you can, it's closely mowed". Then a back and forth about how I can't mark now, only with preferred lies. Turns out Oakdale is still on preferred lies. They decided since the grass hasn't grown in fully on the fairways that they have deemed things not good enough to take off the preferred lies. My other course has been off preferred lies a month or so.

My club is still on preferred lies too, until the end of this month. Seems reasonable since the sudden drying out has meant it's a little patchy in places. Bit of a storm last night may help.

I still think amateur clubs should be pick and place all year anyway. Don't really see an issue with that. 🤷‍♂️

Proper game of 2 halfs today

My mate decided to get a buggy. Then didn't feel up to playing much so just played the par 3s. Basically just driving me round lol

13 over through 9. Couldn't get going however par on 9 followed by par on 10 11 and then managed to finish 8 over for the back 9 .. 21 over finish nice little cut

Similar but not as good today

13 over again front 9 but 10 over for the back

Another little cut but if I don't hit a good score tomorrow I'll be going back up slightly

Started birdie par and then had a beautiful shank.....ball plugged into the tree a paper bark, took a drop and got up and down for a bogey.

Frittered shots away to finally shoot 7 over par.

My mate off scratch started with 13 pars before playing a bad shot and spitting the dummy, he also finished 7 over.

Second place out of 29 entrants in yesterday's medal with 75 - 5 = 70

Had a 4.5 dropping off, but replaced that with a 3.6

In the bag,

Driver Cobra F Speed 10.5°
3-wood Cobra F Speed 15°
Hybrids Cobra Baffler 20° and 23°
3,4,5 irons Powerbilt Oversize

Played last night as family life meant I wouldn't be able to make it out on my usual Wednesday. Didn't play particularly well, driving wasn't as good as it's been (skied 2 drives and hit a wipey slice as well), hit irons ok, short game was tidy and putting was a complete mess. For the 2nd round in a row I only putted well on the last couple of holes when I had stopped caring, maybe Bob Rotella was onto something.

Played a friendly match play match with my mate who I had to give 7 shots. I won 2&1 after trying to throw away a 4 shot lead with 5 to play.

As we weren't putting in cards it gave me a chance to test out a new app I've downloaded called Tour Read Golf which measures the slope on the green and it was good to see that nearly all of my aimpoint reads got the slope percentage correct. Also had an interesting putt on our 7th green that was 4% right to left while also being 6% downhill. Needless to say I didn't hole it and I'm still a bit mystified how my approach shot stayed where it did as I was playing to that point but expecting the ball to roll down and finish below the hole like it does 99% of the time.

Club Senior Championship today and one was on the tee for 7 am with CVG & @Imurg.
Following my cut from the weekend and the 95% thingy I was now down to 27 playing handicap,

Played the front 9 steady, with nothing spectacular and went round in 45, which was only 4 gross over Little Chubby Bro, who was playing like me 🥴

Wind kicked up on the back 9 and didn’t play the first 5 holes of the back 9 very well at all, but then played the last 4 pretty well.
53 on the back (should have been 48) for 98 total / 71 net

Was clubhouse leader for about 30 minutes, now languishing in 16 th place. However a small cut is due , possibly .4 , on top of my cut the other day means that I have goner from 24.2 on Sunday to 23.1, on my way to the quest for Mediocrity

Lovely afternoon down Thorndon golf club

Weather was perfect, golf was good

Price even better. Freebie
Was going to ask how much it costs the golf club to upkeep that clubhouse but I see from the history that it's actually apartments overlooking the golf course.

Course still looks green.

Struggling as usual. 14pts on the front 9....ball in the beck on 9, sure...why not? 19pts on the back with a hole to go...pull out the 5 wood to be safe on 18...pull it into the trees. But Shazam....it's still in play bouncing off the trees. I then put it in the trees on the right side....crap. But I'm still alive....until I hit the ball clear over the green. Balls. Of course....thin the chip into the beck for a blob. Up to the clubhouse after...all 8 of us basically suck. A tie on the front 9 so no payout.....a tie on the overall so no payout....19 on the back was good enough to take the back 9 so I walk away with a few pounds. Golf is NOT fair.
