I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Big board comp today......ball in the hole and all that..
Started well but the swirling and, at times gusty wind made things tricky.
Turned 6 over... and started the back 9 as I did the front but the bogeys kept creeping in as the wind got stronger
To give an indication of how dry the course is...on our 14th I hit a 297 yard drive..... downwind and running hard........with a 4 wood.
Downwind it was almost impossible to control the ball
Ended up 6 over again..
Comfortable mid-table obscurity.
Index going up 0.5 due to a good one dropping off...

Better ball stableford at ours this morning. Tough scoring in a stiff breeze and on very firm greens, but I thought our 43 points was respectable. We didn’t really leave any out there.

Well, at least we thought the conditions were tough. The leading pair are currently 6 points clear of the field with their 52 points. Which included a blob and three single point holes.

Go figure.
A 61 won ours yesterday (doubles strokeplay comp) in a 2 club wind, which equates to 47 points. Mates had a 64 (they had best gross, think it was 67) but both doubled the 10th killing their chances. Not an outrageous winning score, just very, very good considering the conditions.

Summer golf is definitely here. I three-putted the first three holes, and then the 5th as well. There's a few holes you just cannot go long on in summertime, the 2nd is one of them and I did so I blobbed that, after a double on the 1st so not the best start. Other than putting though I was actually playing very well. Hitting driver mostly in play and it was running a mile. Managed to claw my way back to 16 points at half way - and that was with a missed 18-inch par putt on the 8th as well (whenever I start off putting badly it gets in my head). Only one down in the match, but then he won the 10th as well to go 2 up. I wasn't too worried though.

I continued to play well on the back nine and won the next three holes to turn it around - a very nice birdie on the 13th where I steamrolled a putt in gave me the lead for the first time. Had a blip on the long par 3 15th when I drove through the back and had an impossible down hill chip, hit it short twice as I needed to delicately just get it on the putting surface for it to run down to the hole, then of course I knocked it past and picked up my ball in a strop. 🤣

Fantastic par on the 16th, knocking 7 wood to about ten feet in the process, restored my 1 up lead, and then a nice par on the 17th secured a 2 &1 victory. Slightly ropey bogey on the 18th got me to 35 points as well despite the two blobs. Should keep my handicap where it is, as it'll be replacing my trophy-winning West Surrey round that falls off the bottom.

I'm very happy with how I'm swinging at the moment, if I hadn't have had a putting nightmare at the beginning that could have easily have been another sub-80 round (83 as it was). Usually a good sign if you can have a couple of mares and still end up with a decent score.

Sorry confused

Where you playing a HC match or Stableford 🤷‍♂️

What ?!

Blimey I only asked for clarification on what format you were playing as it looked like you were playing a match and putting a card in for your handicap which was confusing

There was nothing in your post about playing with a mate for lunch etc etc
Well I was doing that but he doesn't give me any bloody gimmes anyway. 😂

Sorry, I omitted that detail this time as it tends to be the same deal every weekend for me at the moment.

Kinross Bruce course today, how many Bruce courses are there in Scotland? Generally good but putting was really poor. The greens weren't good but even so...... Pacing was not great and I kept closing the face, disappointingly. Normally if I miss it's because of a push. To close the face was a new one, and one that caught me out.

Other than that, play was generally okay, my wedge play was particularly tasty. Muckhart tomorrow, bring it on 😊

22 and 24. Started with a nett eagle for 4 points and just carried on from there.

A lot won’t enter 4BBB comps at ours now, especially the lower handicaps. This is why.
Same at ours .

Played 9 holes after the match solo. 2 over gross very happy.
Not a soul on the course .
Drove the 325 yd second it’s like hitting down a runway if you keep it straight.

Was expecting the greens to be damaged after an email about a e-bike but couldn’t see any real damage .
Probably because there rock hard.
Course was a bit shaggy as the grass growth is growing like mad.
Tees looking a bit dry though.

Loser buys lunch match with my mate as usual. But of course we keep a count of our Stableford points as well. Not sure what's confusing about that. 🤣

Almost as if golf England has a little box in general play cards for "side match" 😉

Played Abersoch today on the final day of our North Wales golf trip.

Wasn’t keen on the newer holes over the back but the links holes were fantastic, and bloody tight.

Home now, cream crackered. Bed is calling.

Played on the Hotchkin yesterday. Golf was patchy but back nine was good. Highlight of the round was a stoat nailing a rabbit on 11. First time I have seen that. Amazing

Played a single matchplay on Saturday.

Ended up losing 4 balls in the first 4 holes with 2 OB on the first left. Somehow at the turn managed to be 1 up. Ended up winning 5&4

Sunday had a foursome match, Had to give 17 shots to the opposition. I played well and thankfully kept the ball on the course! My partner had a ropey match but we ended up winning 1 up on 18 after I sunk a 30ft putt for birdie.

Would have liked to of lost the match on Sunday as i foolishly signed up to 2 x knockouts at my new club and my old club. This was the old club and I am struggling to find the time on the weekends to get the matches organised.

Proper game of 2 halfs today

My mate decided to get a buggy. Then didn't feel up to playing much so just played the par 3s. Basically just driving me round lol

13 over through 9. Couldn't get going however par on 9 followed by par on 10 11 and then managed to finish 8 over for the back 9 .. 21 over finish nice little cut

Played Mottram Hall yesterday. Final day of lads golf trip held over from last year. Supposed to be individual but two lads from Cheadle wanted a pairs v Macc, so that's what we agreed on. Bone hard course helped the two high capppers 28 (equating to 34, yes 34 at Mottram) Macc 36 (me) + 43 (my Mate) Total 79, two lads from Cheadle 37 each, making 74. Great day out. Member guest price = £25, bloomin, bargin. Greens lovely, why are others rubbish?
Shot of the day? Me. 170 yard par three. Pulled tee shot right, 8 iron. Bouce bounce bounce, Good lord! It went through a gap into, what I can only descride as an ornamental garden. No white sticks. Large trees blocking shot back, but then I thought, where's the green? It was actually inline with a gap in the large trees. Oh well A littke flick with a 54 deg wedge, totally blind, though and hopefully somewhere I can chip on. Caught it lovely. It floated over, I know not where, until......"GET IN!" was my mate. Yup once bounce and in.:)🤪
