Social match this morning with a guy from work at his place. Didn’t start the best, but a run of bogeys wasn’t the worst.

The match went from level to me being 2 down a couple of times, but after being 2 down after 15 I won the next 3 holes to win by 1.

Sun out and playing in a t shirt made for a lovely morning out.

T-SHIRT!!! Doesn't that break about a bazillion golf etiquette rules? Next thing is......short shorts. Que the socks style controversy..... Too bad I'm going to freeze my (bad word) off next week......I still had 3 layers on today while playing. It was nice....but a t-shirt would have killed me off.

Played a round at Huddersfield with Jamie yesterday - winter guest rate of £25 is an absolute steal for the quality of course you are presented with.

Neither of us played our best, with the young 'un struggling to get his putter going a front nine 5 over par was about as good as he could muster. Back nine we both played better, with Jamie starting with three - threes on the bounce, birdie, par, eagle - with a lovely pitch in to a tight pin from 78 yards. I saw it drop, but he didn't, so naturally I had to tell him he'd caught the downslope of the bunker and the ball had gone off the back of the green... He almost believed me for a minute..

Lovely yesterday. Tined greens so that helped my putting. Dropped two birdies in. One didn't know where to go as it bobbled left right all over the place. Talk, as usual, turned to the health of the membership. We are close to going under apparently. No sign of AGM, which is when we are told what the subs will be. This is because some of the committee have been away for most of the winter! I've already been looking for alternatives. Our star man has already gone to "the other side" he holds course records all over the place apparently. On the plus side, the course is empty, so we get round quick.

Played Moortown yesterday afternoon - stunning conditions to match the course! Very welcoming pro shop and clubhouse too and glorious sunshine on the terrace afterwards overlooking the 18th green.

Not a cheap green free at £100, but, by top 100 standards not horrendous and the course was immaculate (and difficult ) from start to finish.

New Course at St Andrews and started in 6 layers as it was a brutal cold wind off the sea. Swung it ok given the layers tho and knocked it round in 74 ,3 over dropping shots on 3 of the par 3's . HID beat her handicap by one so she's stoked too.

Seniors Stableford today.

By dint of some close but not quite on the green approaches, I took 24 putts, don't think I've done that before. (Using the measure of putts only counting when actually on the green)

Scored 37 (82 gross) points in the comp for 5th place which should see another small handicap cut.

Clubs were all 1970s:
Woods - HB&S 1, 3 and 5 laminated maple
Irons - Slazenger Jack Nicklaus Champion 3 to SW
Putter - Edinburgh Golf Rapier

Played Winter Singles K/O Quarter Final this pm. Getting 7 shots off a 1hcapper - we were A/S at the turn. I lost 10th to go one down then won five in a row to shake hands on 15th green and a 4/3 win.

The swing was on par 5 SI 1 11th. I had played two rubbish shots after a good tee shot and was still 30yds short of green. Stuck my 4th to maybe 25ft past the hole leaving a hellish difficult downhill swinging putt to flag right at front of green. Opponent hit his 3rd to within 6ft level with flag. I drained my putt for a 5 nett 4 - and tricky swinging cross-slope putt though his was - he missed it. As I had stood over the putt my feeling was 'do-or-die' - I'd struggle getting back from 2 down.

That hole win for me changed the complexion of the match - he told me after that it rattled him - he was thinking he'd have one - maybe even two putts - to win the hole. And he lost it. Funny old game matchplay golf.

played my first game in 7 months on Sunday. i did briefly think about hitting some balls, but only briefly. i had sort of forgotten how to swing the club, my swing was short before but now its no existent.

lost a fair bit of distance mainly down to stiffness i suspect. in the scheme of thinks i didn't have a total disaster and did hit a couple of good shot and even managed 3 fluky birdies somehow. i shot 83 gross. i am now having to assess if i actually want to play any more. shooting 80 plus isnt my idea of fun

Played for the first time today with my new Ping G430 driver and irons. Sweet Lordy Lordy. They were an absolute thing of beauty. I was 110% happy as a pig in muck. On the range the drives looked a bit high. I had set the driver the same as my old one.(+).First drive 150 yards high. A PP gave me a white tee and after that it was monster. Front nine 24 points round in 41 shots. My lowest ever front nine. Back nine 20 points. Won the front nine and overall. The irons were absolutely a thing of beauty. I was absolutely buzzing. However the peasants are revolting. It seems the lowere handicappers are happy winning the brass but the higher handicappers it appears should know there place. A guy in the fuddle had words with me before the round and expected me to back down re playing off the whites during the summer months. It ain’t happening. A few other guys have said on the quiet they are going off yellows. In the 19th he had another dig and apparently I am a “ hollow backed wotsit".

From my point of view, the money and winning don’t mean a thing. But with these irons and driver hitting a good shot means more than money which ain’t gonna change my life. At the moment Tashyboy is in a happy place and rammel is a thing of the past. Roll on Thursday

Course number 333 today which was the Old Course.
Still cold and windy but sun shining so just the 5 layers today.
Used a caddy and he plotted me round with aplomb, shooting 6 over. Struggled in the wind with the putting today, 6 3 putts ,3 of which were from 3 foot
HiD had a magnification round with 45 points .
Experience slightly marred by playing partners, no etiquette, talking to each other all the time whilst over your shot/putting, suddenly walking into your eyeline on backswing,. definitely no HNSP for them . Caddy asked me if we'd been asked for HC and said yes Starter had asked for them, for caddy to reply "wonder whose certificates they used " The one guy knobbed it off the tee less than 30 foot 3 times
Having said all that HID and I have made memories for a lifetime

walked out of the changing room and stood by the first back to the changing room and added another layer.
2 layers to 5 layers in just 2 days.
Greens had been pencil tined and possibly 'earth quaked' struggled to stop the putts close to hole compared with Saturday must have up 3 points on the stimp meter.

Had to smile at myself - I had changed the shaft on my driver a couple of weeks ago, stood on the 15 tee, where we often have to wait, and realised I had put it on with the club face at a lower loft. I thought the low runners I had been getting was down to how I was hitting the drives.

I use the white tees when it's windy only. I sometimes hit a drive where I catch it a little low on the face, so I wouldn't want to use whites all the time as I'd probably miss the ball eventually.

It depends on your swing though. My mate has a really fast swing, but he has no shoulder tilt at address and hits down on the ball a fraction, so at a recent fitting they had him hitting off yellow castle tees - got him less spin and more distance. I hit up on the ball like you're meant to, so pink tees normally work best.

Did you play solo Patrick’s 148. For me having 4 1/2 hrs with the lads is therapy. 83 and I would be over the moon. Shot my lowest ever front nine on Tuesday 41 and I was buzzing I look back at a 7 on a par five and I could have been lower.

no with 3 other guys, we were round in 3 hours, it was a laugh, but i dont enjoy not being good at something. 83 on a par 70 , but TBG the par 5 is really a par 4 and one of the par 4's is really a long par 3, but i got a 3 on that anyway, but didn't count that as a birdie. i cant spend the time i once did on the game and for me shoot mid teens or even high 70 isnt enjoyable compared to being able to shoot low 70 8 months ago

The golf for me would be secondary to 3 hours with the lads. One of the guys in our fuddle turned up yesterday. He could t play as he had an op on his hand two weeks ago. He found 60odd balls on the course and was buzzing. Said he would go mental sat at home. I suppose if you have a plan B that’s fine.
