I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Lovely day, jumpers off by the 9th. Drove like a dream, up the middle time and time again. Happy days.

Greens had been tined and that killed it. 4 putted the 1st, it wasn't the last 😭. Absolutely Mickey Mouse, ah well.

Rubbish score but I'll forget that and just remember the drives 😂

Walk in the park with the lads.

Ours have been tined so might just putt with my hybrid.😳

I might have been more successful doing that. If you hit it gently then holes took the ball all over. If you hit it firmly, and not dead centre, then you were 4ft past. I shouldn't have bothered entering the comp and just picked up my putts when I got within reasonable distance. I wasn't thinking properly 🙄

Suspect with the weather the past week every club will have done their greens . Our fairways have also been done

Bit of pain for a week or so

I should emphasise, I'm not criticising the club or green staff. It's essential maintenance, it needs doing. It just meant the round today was a lottery and I absolutely didn't buy a winning ticket 😄

After swinging great at the driving range this week, and the sun shining I was of course too optimistic going into the Stableford comp today. Got my new balls out (Vice Pro Air) and a new glove. Then I made the schoolboy error of parring the first hole (the 10th as we started there). A combination of the fact it was warmer, the greens had been cut and were quicker, and the new Vice balls were seemingly much longer than the PXG one I had been using, made it all a bit of a struggle to get my yardages and putting speed right. I let myself down with a few awful putts, I just couldn't read the speed whatsoever. Sailed through the green on the 14th as well. Managed a few bogeys though and had 15 points at half way which was not too bad.

Second nine was just a disaster really. Blobbed the 1st after having to escape a bunker with a downhill lie, and another poor putt. Three-putt the 2nd but parred 3rd. On the 4th I duff my pitch before knifing the next attempt through the back - another blob and complete head loss now. Managed to par 5th somehow, then onto the 6th: It's 120 to back of the green, there's a bit of wind up which is left to right and slightly into - so I hit PW off the mat, strike it well... and airmail the green by about ten yards. What the hell? How long are these bloody golf balls?? Knife the chip coming back and duff the one from the other side so that's a third blob in the end.

Then I par the 7th which is SI 2, and par the 8th, a par 5, playing it perfectly. Onto the 9th, where my second shot hits a tree branch and completely disappears into thin air. Absolutely no idea what direction it even went. Made double with the provisional.

Absolute cluster-Fbomb of a back nine. The four pars meant I scraped 28 points in total, but I am very annoyed. My pitching and chipping just completely deserted me - scariest thing was the one on the 6th near the end felt like a yip, I felt my arms lock up. I can definitely do without the chipping yips this year thanks.

Weather was nice - shorts and t-shirt. Shame I wasted it. Familiar feeling of guttedness and misery in having to wait another whole week before I can play again and put things right. Sigh.

Lovely morning, we were down to our polo shirts by 10am.

Balls seemed to be travelling further with the warmer weather, overshot a few greens, but another very solid round. 38 points to take the roll up
money 😆

In common with many, our spring maintenance has been done this week to coincide nicely with the return of qualifying competitions today.

First monthly stableford of the year, 33 points with three blobs and any number of three putts on greens which were like waffles. Missed from 18” on the 1st green after the ball veered 45 degrees right off a tine mark and would have missed a second cup to the right of the one I was aiming at.

Why we couldn’t have delayed the return to qualifying comps by a week is anyone’s guess.

Still, I must have been doing something right to have returned a respectable score.

Really don't get the obsession with clubs running qualiers so early ,courses just arnt ready yet

Problem is, if you play any opens, a lot of them are becoming increasingly prohibitive with their entry criteria. We tried to book one last year which required ten cards from qualifying competitions, not GP submissions, in the previous twelve months.

If you factor in weekends where there are pairs or team comps, weekends when you miss qualifiers because you are on holiday, and then add in three or four months when your home club don’t hold qualifiers over the winter months, then that becomes increasingly difficult to achieve.

Our course is pretty dry with the exception of periods following biblical rainfall, and we’ve had weekends this winter when we’ve played a measured course but still haven’t been able to submit cards, even GP ones.

It’s a little frustrating.

18 hole stableford qualifier today.. 🤭. Not a great round the putter was stone cold but to be fair it wasn’t the thing I was worried about and hadn’t worked on it.
I was tired at the end my stamina is low and my legs were losing their ability to bend . So a 30pt card .. no worries it was a lovely day. Nice to be out and course was very good given the time of year.

Lovely day.....agreed. Our greens weren't "tined" though.....bloody cored to death.....with no sand fill. Why on this course don't they keep adding sand.....it's wet. My other course just did the small tine with sand, no problem. It was kind of like playing on temp frozen greens with the balls bouncing randomly around. Oh well.....another day or two and that shouldn't be too bad. Next week weather is going to be a bit harsh after these last few days.......

Like others have said, lovely day today. I played pretty well for 17 holes (+2) but had a horrible treble on the 14th.

Our doubles game ended up all square, first time in a month my team hasn’t been hammered mainly because the other team only had 4 birdies compared to the 9 they have had the last 2 rounds.

Out with the son in law today, he took up golf when he became part of the family a few years ago and has just signed up as a full member at our club. Tee markers were turned on so we got his first handicap card in the bag - some big scores recorded over the first 12 holes, so on the 13th tee I pegged one up and asked him to watch as I took a half swing at it and knocked it about 190 up the fairway.
Jack did the same, and his game was transformed. Made a couple of bogeys in the last 4 holes which had him fist pumping as the putts dropped - a joy to see.

Shocking day with my chipping being awful. Also discovered the new TSR3 head doesn’t play well with the Fujikura Pro shaft.

Hit my irons really well though and putted quite nicely but limped to a 74 (+7) or 35 points for the southerners.

Level at the turn, 10, 11 & 12 conspire to do me yet again, 4 gone across those 3.

Really nice day at the seaside though.

34 pts in monthly Stableford
4 prs off 1st place

Easy to recall where I lost my 4 pts but pretty happy where I finished
Par 4's were my downfall today

Well that worked out rather better than expected
Index dropped 0.2 overnight so I'm exactly 12.0 index now, with CH & PH both also at 12 😉
(& a 6 CH off the reds but I guess that doesn't count)🤔😉

Things are going better. Probably get another little cut for tomorrow with 37pts today, so likely around 6.2 tomorrow. My second goal every time I play is to not have any holes worse than a bogie. I think 3 rounds in a row now without a meltdown hole. Had to play today because next week looks to be a weeeee bit colder and windier.

A 12 over 84 (and 31 s/ford pts) including 4 three putts and an out of bounds 8 on the last. These aberrations considered, not bad - and with a card in hand into the bargain (on which perhaps some thoughts elsewhere). Off tee good and with ground drying out and much firmer than of recent months my 8-9i and wedge play was much better. Not back to how I'd like it and how I can play it - but much better nonetheless.

Interesting that my 12 over almost squeezed into my current Top 8 - all down to our new CR and SI (both significantly higher) - this being the first weekend iG was 'live' with the changes - which include new revised and unified Ladies and Gents SIs.

Social match this morning with a guy from work at his place. Didn’t start the best, but a run of bogeys wasn’t the worst.

The match went from level to me being 2 down a couple of times, but after being 2 down after 15 I won the next 3 holes to win by 1.

Sun out and playing in a t shirt made for a lovely morning out.
