I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Rare weekend for me as I managed to get out Saturday and Sunday.

If you take Saturday morning front 9 with Sunday back 9 I'd have shot +2. If you take the opposites I'd have shot +15.

So 2 really good 9's with 2 terrible 9's in between.

Before heading home today, managed a quick nine on the Woodland track at Glencoe, formerly known as the Dragons tooth.

Been taken over and the name changed, sadly. Has been previously rated the best 9 hole in Scotland.

Lovely little track with some fabulous views out over the loch and back at the dragons tooth, and the mountains beyond.

Bit wet at this time of year, on winter tees with tined greens. Maybe a tad excessive to charge full green fee given the condition but very much enjoyed the round nonetheless, and my golf was much better than yesterday. Mrs Wedge didn’t play as she took a tumble on Traigh yesterday and was feeling a bit sore.

A range lesson…start of season service. Specific concern was my poor striking with irons longer than 9i. Pro has me hit two balls…then says WTTE

“OK…1) set aside (forget) everything you think you know about the golf swing and what you have been doing to try a sort it yourself. 2) wipe from your mind any mental pictures you have of the swings of others and what they are doing to hit a golf ball well - at least that‘s what you tell yourself they are doing“.

We then went through the process of working back from the shape of ball flight I want; alignment of club face relative to target line to achieve that; then body/club/hands position at strike; and then the small adjustment from that to the address. Then hit it. Absolutely nothing whatsoever about the swing….all his focus was on me striking the ball to deliver the shape of ball flight. And it looks weird, and weird that it worked so well.

Why is it weird?

My legacy learned experience is so very different.

Why do I manage fine with wedges, hybrid and driver?

Bluntly…I had stumbled across doing the right thing - that’s why I was succeeding with these clubs. I didn’t know why what I was doing worked, indeed I didn’t really know what it was about what I was doing that was the right thing, and that is why I could not apply the same thing to longer irons.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it’s to the range I go…

Goodness knows what’ll happen when I try and apply on course tomorrow. Anyway.

Porthcawl today in their winter open. Cam believe the rain held off, but boy, did the wind get up half way round.

Saw Gordon, sometime of this parish, but didn't realise it was him 😁😁

Nutty score won. Won't dignify it with a specific mention. 🤕

Played in this yesterday with the aforementioned Gordon and @TopOfTheFlop - really enjoyed the course and the clubhouse, and we certainly got lucky with the weather. But I agree.... the winning score doesn't deserve a mention! :ROFLMAO:

In my experience these types of events are more about the course and company than winning and picking up a prize. Generally the prizes aren't that great anyway. Play out of your skin and win something like a pair of mitts or a bobble hat :ROFLMAO:

More chance of taking a canoe out at ours than playing. Course closed due to flooding for the second day running for the first time in my twenty years there, and not likely to be open any time soon.

If the best drained course for miles has had to close, I shudder to think how everywhere else is coping.

We're front 9 only, carry if you can.
Which means 90% plus will be using leccy trolleys...
It’s amazing how many people have a disability that means they can’t carry. And subsequently need a full size tour bag with 14 clubs, 3 changes of clothing and god know what else in there just to play 9 holes.

14 holes on again today. Can’t understand why 13 and 14 were on as they are traditionally two of the wettest holes on the course, and both were on temps. Not a great deal of fun playing them. 1-12 or even just the front nine would have been fine. Sometimes less is more.

Anyway, played really well for 33 points. Would normally have been more than enough to win, but not today, one of the lads shot the lights out with 35 points. C’est la vie.

Most important thing is my game is in a good place at the moment, long may it continue.

Didn't get out today as was working in Liverpool but the other night I managed to fit in a range session.

There I was minding my own business hitting a few balls when a young lady (inappropriately dressed in a fleece) I may add started hitting balls next to me.

She was OK but after watching her for a while I was sure she could do with some advice. I have been playing playing golf for 20 years so I thought I should help her out a bit. I said she should speed up her swing and follow through more. She said she was working on her swing or something

It was great the next one she spanked a country mile straight down the middle.

Good deed done for the day

:):)

After consistent rain all day yesterday bordering torrential at times we ventured to the course today not expecting much especially as they had cored and sanded the greens.

+1 gross at the turn (bloody chip on 7 hit the pin and didn’t drop for the birdie), level through the entire back 9 knowing 2-3 putts were on line and just needed a little more steam. Gross 73 for 46 points 3 birdies, 4 bogeys.

Happy and a piggy in the brown smelly stuff!

Glad you did this now and not next Saturday! 🤣🤣🤣

Didn't play today, but I'm entered in a 5 clubs and a putter (no idea why 5 and not 3..?...whatever) comp tomorrow. Club has already put out notice saying as long as there is no more rain it will still go on tomorrow, but only 16 holes and carry only. Fair enough.

5 plus a putter isn't really pushing it is it? Bit of a cop out. We are carry only at the moment and I reckon that's all I currently have in the bag 😄
