I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Social round today, cold start but decided to put a card in anyway.

Played brilliantly on the front 9, a 4 over 40 for 22 points.

Back nine was a struggle, played the last 3 holes 7 over and finished on 35 points.....silly game.

Assumed the course would be closed after heavy rain last night followed by a frost overnight.

Surprisingly it was open, but it really shouldn't have been. Very muddy and a fair bit of standing water.

One PP lasted 2 holes. I lasted 5. No fun at all.

Snow, sleet and rain forecast for 3 days from tomorrow night, so suspect that will be it for me until sometime next week at the earliest.

Played an open at northwest golf club. Our local links. Nice to play in very little wind and splashes of sunshine.

Shot a 73 for +3.

One off the gross and one off the visitor prize. Ouch

The fact this thread has slipped so far down the board is indicative of the weather!

Played in our roll up this morning. Freezing cold. Greens a lottery. Foggy. Made me realise just how much I am coming to despise cold weather.

Good fun, great company, but it’s taken me all afternoon to thaw out. I’ve removed my name from the start sheet tomorrow. Can’t face three cold mornings on the course on the spin.

Every year it takes less to encourage me to stay in....never used to feel the cold....beginning to nowadays.

You and me both. Used to be a big fan of winter golf. The only time I’d give it a miss was if it was hosing down. We were always happy to play in frozen conditions, and have even enjoyed cross country in the snow.

These days I really feel the cold. I started to notice it last year, and as this winter is setting in I’m really struggling with it. Normally, if I start a round with my mittens out of the bag they used to be back in the bag after a few holes. This morning they stayed out all the way round. First time ever.

I think it’s my body’s way of telling the wife we need to buy a bolthole in Spain………

Only 14 in the rollup today…bit of freezing fog, 18 temp greens and forward tees, but ground not frozen on the surface and had a bit of give in it so not crazy golf. Putting on temps as always a bit random so happy with my 34 pts - didn‘t win (38 did) but that’s ok as I made a little discovery.

As grips on shoes a bit worn down my foot grip was not good so decided to try extending my backswing from its normal fairly short and punchy and see if that encouraged a better hip turn and maybe some clubhead speed. I could but try. Nothing much to lose in the circumstances. New grips on clubs felt great and maybe that was what encouraged a freer swing, but I certainly felt a better hip turn - and striking of all clubs, irons especially, was noticeably better than normal.

I have discovered the secret…onwards and upwards…well maybe until the next time I hit a ball. 😘

Just played an afternoon round. Course a bit soggy and it rained for the first 7 holes or so. I feel that I played really well but the conditions made it tough, and teeing off of mats cost me a couple of shots because of the stupid locations they've put some of them, and the fact you can't get a tee in some. More on that will be going in irritations. 😂

A late surge of great up and downs (three in four holes for pars) saw me shoot 83 for 35 points. Very happy with that in the end. Driving was decent and short game was very good, which made the rest of it not matter that much really.

I have brand new set of irons and driver in my locker. Had them since Friday and they still not seen a ball. 20 years ago I would have been out in all weathers. No way I’m playing in the freezing rain.

Xmas Foursomes at my club today, a big event in the calendar and if it wasn't for that, the course would have been closed. It's a hybrid format where you play off scratch and add your team handicap at the end.

My partner and I started badly with 4 blobs in a row but really came into our own after that. We started on the 11th, our actual score on holes 1-9 was 6 over par which was incredible considering the conditions. We finished on 29 points, the winners got 37 so not a bad effort at all.

Winter golf is stupid though 😂

Played ten holes on my tod- started 2:30 finished in the dark. It rained much of the time and has rained since. In truth, and as much as the majority of the course drains really well, there are areas of the course that are starting to really suffer and I’m thinking it should be closed. Just not worth the damage that is being caused by the heavy footfall the course receives daily.

Day off today, had a round at Redbourn with my dad. VERY mixed bag for me, with two birdies (one chip-in), four pars but six double bogeys as well. Started out hitting tired slices after having tonsillitis for the last three days, but somewhat sorted that out before the end. Short game was mostly very good - including greenside chips and pitches from 50-80 yards that I was putting relatively close. Missed the odd makeable putt but mostly putted well. The only real downer was that my fairway woods were awful - couple of tops and load of heel strikes pulled dead left, weirdly. No explanation because they were great the other day. Anyway, finished with 36 points somehow.

Pretty good round for my dad as well after a slow start, he managed 34 points so we both had a good day.

Trolley ban lifted today so I was out with CVG for the first time in nearly 2 weeks....
I've only played the odd 9 while the carry only signs have been up.
We were awful :ROFLMAO:
Flashes of brilliance surrounded by oceans of despair...Good job we weren't keeping score.

I wasn't going to play today as the trolley ban is back on, the course was likely to be busy and it was blowing a hoolie too...
But I succumbed.
By 'eck it was breezy out there.....
Played 11 holes and the ones into the wind were .....interesting.
I was playing a selection of fairways so didn't take the driver out.
On the 1st I hit a really solid 4 wood.....157 yards...on the 12th (downwind).....276 :ROFLMAO:

Another winter league match today, starting out without the rain, but very much playing the last 6 or 7 holes in the wet.

Good form continuing, ended up with a personal score of 71. My last 3 rounds have been 72,71,71 so the work is really paying off, especially the work with the wedges.

Even with that round, it wasn’t enough to win our match, which we lost 2&1. Added up what our score would have been as a 4bbb and it would have been a gross 64, so the whole group was playing well.
