I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played Leasowe today, pleasant course and the forecast rain stayed away.
4BBB match which we won on the 15th.

We did get slightly befuddled at one point, teeing off on the 10th and playing down the 17th, it was only when we couldn't find the 11th tee that we realised we might have gone wrong... o_O

Stableford today and my game is falling apart, 3 putted the first 3 holes, then forgot how to hit woods off the fairway, kept topping the ball and even went in a ditch twice on the same hole, a finished with a grand total 18 points!

I have a lesson booked on tuesday to try and sort out my woods, the putting remains unfixable

So you let someone through and he nicked your ball on the fairway.
jeez that’s just not on.
Didnt see it happen, so can't say for sure. But its the only plausible explanation. Ball should have been lying pretty much dead-centre of the fairway. And he may not have realised it was mine. (Jeez, why am I making up excuses ...)

If you let someone through and he comes across a ball on the fairway I think most golfers would think it must be one of those nice chaps that have just been kind enough to let me play through.

And leave it there ,not pocket it.
Etiquette is almost gone in the game.

Played Parkstone in the captains exchange day. Played a few times here now and it’s a cracking place, really good nick.

The heavens opend on the 13th and by the 14th we were drenched but we soldiered on. Golf was decent, a few really strange shots like a 185 yard 7i through the back of 8 (155 is normal yardage) I can only think the wind was gusting.

6 FIR, 11 GIR, 36 putts. 3 3 putt’s was annoying +8 gross

I don't imagine anyone would deliberately steal a ball after being let through. Probably just had a major brainfart.

Played my first knockout this week a retired Doctor I've played before who is extremely steady for this handicap, giving away 12 shots this time, I best him last year and I think I gave him less shots. Anyway, got pumped🤣 I played OK, but he got a couple of big breaks , but that's golf, even 5 birdies for me wasn't enough and lost 3 ans 2. Happy with how I played thought

Played at Parkstone yesterday. I do like the layout there and conditioning is just awesome.

Then played Ferndown in much nicer weather today. Not quite as good conditioning wise as Parkstone but had handled the rain very well and a really nice track… great day was topped off when a playing partner made a hole in one. I was pleased for her until she told me it was her 6th one 🤣

Lovely part of the country if you’ve got a bit of cash…

Scratch KO match. Played a 30-something 6ft++ lad off 4. Lost 3:2. Did fine. Was 3 down after 6 , got it back to 1 down at turn. Still 1 down after 13 but he won 14 and 16 with 15 halved and that was that. Could maybe have done a bit better at times, but he hit the ball a Lang Scots mile and scraping the clouds, and I played well to keep hanging onto his coat tails and still be in contention up 16.

Coming soon. Another scratch comp and a match against the club champion, who according to my opponent today, is playing well. A challenge.

Finally played the final of the 'Summer 2022' Knockout 🤣😂
Oppo (off 15) started fast with 4 pars and birdie in first nine, but hung on for 1 down. Managed to edge in front for first time after 14, and held on for a 1up win 🏆 😀
Small membership, so not the biggest knockout but you can only play what's in front of you. Lovely evening as well.

Four para and a birdie off the front nine is massive off 15 😳
Good win me man

I volunteered to make up a team of four and so ended up unexpectedly playing Gathurst today, it is quite a hilly course with the first 12 or so holes constantly going up and dawn the hill the clubhouse is at the top of. Very lobsided course too wit hthe front nine having a yardage of over 3000yds off the reds but the back only being 2200.
After the pathetic round of yesterday Iwas glad to bwe able to try and sort my swing out and although It wasnt perfect I only had a couple of really bad shots and generally played pretty well apart from the pars 3s about half a dozen pars and also a birdie was certainly a big inprovement

Played foursomes at Hoylake yesterday on a lovely sunny afternoon using the routing for The Open, yellow tees rather than championship!

They're already well on with erecting stands and hospitality, makes you realise just what a massive operation it is now.
Good to play the 18th with all the stands up.

We managed a par, par finish including the "treacherous" 17th, I imagine a few players will happily take that come the final day.

+5 gross with a stupid 3 putt on the first and a knifed chip on 5 ending in a double.

Driver was slicey but I managed to control it just enough not to be in the cabbage. Ironplay was brilliant, 4 iron into both 9 & 18 and held the greens and converted pars - happy with that as they’re difficult holes.

6/13 FIR 13 GIR 35 putts
2 birds, 5 bogeys and 1 double

Greens were really slick and got a
Bit tentative at times but held it together.

I hate golf.

Stableford comp today, plus a Stableford winners final which I qualify for. And I had a good round going off my record, so lots of reasons to play well.

Started with three pars, chip in birdie on the 5th. Blobbed the 7th but followed with two more pars for 20 points at half way. Then the bloody wheels came off.

Had a shocking lie on the 10th that I couldn't chip out of, plus missed a tap-in while reaching over my mate's line like an idiot, so blobbed that. Unlucky to find a ditch on the 12th so had to settle for a double bogey. Then sliced my drive on the 13th, found it and had to play a gripped down punch out - played it perfectly but it hit a tree full on and bounced straight back into the bush! Another blob. So from 20 points at nine holes I'd only added 3 more after the 13th. Steady bogeys after that, but on the 18th I don't get a shot, and practically whiffed my first putt resulting in a three-stab to finish when I had been eyeing up birdie.

Finished on 30 points. 20 out and 10 back (only eight holes back nine but still awful). I just can't believe it. Six pars and a birdie but all of them on the bloody front nine. My mate did the reverse, blobbed three of the first five, managed an 18 point back nine (or eight) to finish on 30 points - about six places higher than me in the comp on countback!

Did I mention I hate golf?

At least it was lovely summer conditions though. Shorts and shirt sleeves all the way round. Only another week or two til the ground dries out and it's proper summer golf I reckon.

Just played in the rollup stableford today. Decided to not submit a card for WHS purposes as I wanted to try out some stuff that could easily go wrong. As it happens it was not tooooo bad…once I got around to very consciously ‘quietening’ my hands. Rubbish pts total but felt that some progress had been made. Board Comp tomorrow will focus my mind on looking for a decent score.
