"Friendly" 4bbb match against Nizels, away leg. Course was shut yesterday, and really shouldn't have been open today. Agreed to pick and place everywhere, which was just as well, because the ball was plugging everywhere! Casual water in the rough and all sorts. Awful.
I hit one shot on a par 5 after finding the fairway with an 8 iron which disappeared into the light rough! Really annoying!
My partner and I were 5 down at the turn, and I'd had 6 pars! Trouble is, the 3 handicapper for the opposition had 5 birdies and the other lad made a par with a shot! Back 9, we won a couple of holes to take it to 16th, where I got my 6th par for the back nine, but Mr Birdie hit his 9th birdie to win the match! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣
2 over nett, but that includes an 8 on the par 5 where I lost a ball, which really would have been a 5 or 6, so pretty happy with things overall.

Success - of sorts. Have I mentioned my handicap came down a lot last year? :) Well, it did & I've been struggling to play to it since January. Played with the usual boys yesterday and lost the money by only 2 points instead of recently normal 6 or 7. And came back with the same ball I started out with, and no blobs. Perhaps I've steadied the ship? (Or perhaps the game will just bite me on the backside again next time...)

First silver trophy of the year had an absolute shocker 90, started poorly then fell away🤣🤣

Slow too, its a comp also open to members of Inverness and Fortrose clubs for some reason, shockingly slow, waited on every shot. We passed the first group out on the 15th when on the 3rd, it had taken them 3.20 to play to there with no one in front 🙄

Beck Trophy yesterday at LB, medal comp for all the winners of competitions last year.

Started unbelievably well by holing out for birdie from 80 yards, probably the most perfect SW I've ever hit in my life.

Birdied the 4th too.

+5 after 9 due to annoying doubles on 7 and 9.

Took an 8 on 13th after trying a hero shot out of the bunker, really was a brain fart.

Finished net level, 4th place. 0.6 cut so back down to 14.4, game is really feeling good right now.

Monthly stableford at ours. 36 points off the tips this early in the season is a very satisfying return, especially as I’ve been slapping it all week.

A change to an old putter made a huge difference, and the new driver is still behaving itself.

Texas scramble off the back tees today, and I played some horrific golf. Not what you need on a 7030 yard course.
Just couldn’t get any rhythm going - I’m blaming it on trying to hit everything out of sight, something I just cant do.
Gonna play a casual round tomorrow to see if I can figure out where it all went wrong today.

Another medal round today and the course starting to dry out a little bit after a few days without rain.

Matched my PB off the whites (in a comp) with a 76, managed to shank a wedge OOB after leaving 60 yards in after 2 on one of our par 5’s. A real face palm moment!

Should give me a 0.5 cut, so a good day all round. A good step towards the target of single figures.

I played my 4th new course of the year today with a trip to Conwy, very nice links with lots of gorse, I saw a decent improvement in my game too, we had lovely weather too, so it was a surprise when I got close to home and it was bucketing down

Today was my 300th different golf course , including par 3's . As luck would have it The Championship course at Carnoustie for a practice round for the Craws Nest Tassie. I don't think you'll get any better benign conditions than today , no wind , no rough to speak off but rain quite heavy towards the end around 6.30 pm. 7 straight pars, then nightmare 2 OB on par 3 8th, back on the par trail until the 16th when failed to get up and down from right greenside bunker, in fairness ball was in the jaws . The 17 carried the burn on the left into light rough and lipped out with par putt. Hit best drive of the day down 18 , but tugged 6 iron into the left greenside bunker but up and downed for a par for 36 points , 15 par's 2 bogies and the nightmare 8th !!

Just back from a wedding in the US and first time playing abroad for me.

Managed to get in a couple of rounds, one at a local country club as a members guest and another at a local casino course.

Pristine greens and fairways, really made me realise how poor my own course is at this time of the year.

played alright, best I've hit my irons in 2 years but the turf just seemed different over there, the ball clipped off so nicely.

Played my own course on saturday night and hated it in comparison!

A Board comp yesterday. Got a two (which will give me ££s) but later in round hit three rocket shanks…and I haven’t done one of these for a few months. Trying hard to see the two as balancing compensation. I can probably sort the shanking quicker than getting another two in a board comp. I hope 🙄🤔

I couldn’t agree more re course condition. It seemed to me that the courses were built from scratch with the right seed etc from the start. Some of the fairways I have played off were just stunning. Nigh on every ball is ” sat up” lovely just waiting to be hit. I could say that about courses in Mexico, Portugal, Mauritius, Cuba.
I don’t get back to my course and think it’s a lesser standard but I do think when I see little things at other courses like more ball cleaners, benches to sit on whilst waiting on tees, steps to raised tees, good winter tees. Why do we not incorporate that.
