Walton Heath Old and a new personal best of of +2 gross off 8. Just couldn’t put a foot wrong. Need to put a card in I think….

Stunning course, the bunkering is simply outstanding and makes for some great views while you’re plotting your way around.

11/14 FIR 12 GIR 33 putts
Double bogey to start but 1 birdie and 2 more bogeys for a 38 (+3) front. Came alive on the back with a birdie on 16 that was very nearly an eagle for a 36 (-1) back

+2 gross at WH is no mean feat…esp as it won’t have the run-out it will have later in the year…albeit the rough will be down a bit now. Still, that’s v good golf

Have you played Hankley? My view is that the holes are more strategic and ‘better’ at WH, but the setting, atmosphere, and conditioning was superior at Hankley

I bite your hand off to be a member at either, but given the choice I’d rather be a member at Hankley - though WH has better golf holes

(Maybe conditioning not a fair call, as WH I played in a wet spring, and Hankley in a sunny autumn)

One of those days where it all came together along with some luck from the golfing gods. 17 had double bogey written all over it… missed the green and had a chip from under the trees that I had to land into an uphill to get it to hold the green… pulled it off and sunk the putt. Give me 100 balls and I don’t think I could do it again - just one of those days.

Couldn’t agree more with you comparison of Hankley. I’ve played Hankley a few times and the conditioning is unreal, I don’t know how they cut the grass around the bunkers, it must take them hours, amazing attention to detail. Hankley for conditioning, Walton Heath for strategy.

Seniors Stableford today, poor front nine of 14 points including a blocked 6 iron on the par 3 6th resulting in a 3 off the tee.
Missed a couple of makeable putts too.

Better on the back nine, especially when I discovered that the grip on my 6 iron was loose and twisting in my hand! I'd been in two minds about replacing the old grips as they were the Slazenger originals but my mind has been made up for me now. Might have been the cause of the block on the 6th.....

Much better back nine of 21 points for 35 total off 95%.

Edit: Just remembered, we switched to thin flags sticks at the bottom 10 inches the other week. On the second hole I'd hit a putt right on line and a couple of PPs had already said good putt but it hit the stick and bounced out!

Seniors Open at Seahouses today. Forecast was wall to wall sunshine, ended up being cold, grey and very windy.

Despite that, had a very enjoyable day. Played ok, more good than bad, so another small step in the right direction.

Loved the course, much preferred it to Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh which I played last year. Only downer was bacon rolls and coffee were a bit poor.

Played in an open team competition at Longcliffe today (best two scores to count). I can’t remember a round where I have consistently hit the irons so well and am loving the new Mizunos. The rest of the team including a spritely 79 year old all had their moments and we ended up with 89pts. Turned out to be the winning score!

18 holes at Broadstone today. Mostly hit the ball well, but struggled putting a little bit to finish with 30 points.

Considering the weather we have had, the course was looking good, sure it will be lovely come the summer.

In Scotland at the moment with the wife visiting her family. We played 18 at Girvan today. We played there a year ago the last time we were up, my wife liked it and wanted to play again. It's a strange little course, only a par 64, and the first 8 holes are links, on the coast, then you cross over a road and holes 9-18 are parkland.

The wind was ridiculous, first two holes straight into a 35mph breeze - I blobbed the first after I got stuck in a pot bunker, and doubled the second so not a great start. Wind behind was a lot more fun though, nearly drove the green on the 6th and made birdie. I measured a drive into wind and wind behind on my phone app - 161y and 256y. 😂 The 8th is one of the hardest par 3s I've ever played - 220 odd yards to an upturned bowl green and pot bunkers all round - found another of them and made a triple. 😣

The parkland back nine was a little less eventful, and in the end I made four pars in a row from 14th to 17th to save a respectable score of 80 in the end - 33 points. My wife hit the ball quite well but the wind was tough for her when she can only hit it 150 yards anyway, so her score wasn't great. Sun was out though and it was actually quite warm if you could ignore the minor hurricane!

The wind was pretty challenging at Seahouses as well. The 10th is the signature hole, 160 yard par 3 over a loch to a tight little green. It was into the teeth of the wind. I took driver and it just made it over the water onto the edge of the green. Two holes later, the 12th was a very long par 4 (420 yards) with the wind behind us. I hit driver and hybrid and was only 10 yards shy off the green in 2!

On a 108 yard par 3, I hit 9 iron which just ballooned up into the wind and went about 80 yards, it was hilarious. On the 18th, more like 118 yards but hitting off a raised tee I tried to hit a low 7 iron - better but still landed 6 inches short of the front edge. 😂

Played the roll up with the boys, played well even with the stiff breeze off the sea. Think I was 3 under gross and thought we had a good chance with the team, but pipped by one point😂
Had my first caddy job in the afternoon, a load of guys from California who wanted to play from the back tees, all higher handicaps. Nice guys but the golf was shocking, I doubt any broke 100 and took almost 5 hours to get round. Tbh for them it must have been a real shock yo the system with 20 mph wind having an effect on all of there shots due to high ball flight with too much spin. I good opener for them though as They play Dornoch today, Royal Aberdeen tomorrow and Carnoustie on Monday, Nairn is easy compared to any of those.

Went out yesterday as our usual 4 ball (does every club in england have weekend rates start on friday?) - this was my 5th round in 5 days so a little fatigued (thats my excuse)

last 4 rounds went something like 88-89-89-90. so I guess it was only natural to shoot 105.
Nothing worked, I have been having a off week with my driver to that stayed at home and was just using a 3 wood.
when I say nothing worked, for at least 8 holes I couldnt hit a shot, either topped, thinned or fatted, or if i hit it well it would go OB or lost in rough, which was a fantastic start.. so by the 4th hole I was already 9 over, and it got even worse in the next 4 holes finshed the front 9 at +20
back 9 was a bit better, still had the odd, odd-shot. gave up using my 3 wood off the tee, started to use my hybrid. started to get it together by the 16th hole, back 9 shot +13. +33 over, great day out on the course :sneaky:
the big postive was the weather was nice and the first time in as long as i can remember there being next to no wind at all,

These 74’s are becoming quite popular, in the back of my mind I’m not sure where they’re coming from… A little bit of glamour today as well. 8i into the first lipped out and I got off to a great start with a tap in birdie.

Consistent golf ensued, an annoying 3 putt on 4 which should really have been avoided but never mind. Hole 9, 440 par 4 uphill into the wind and a garbage tee shot into the heather…. Hack out and a 5i just short… I’d resigned myself to a double as the 9th green is difficult to read and then I chipped in for par and a +1 gross front 9.

Nothing great on the back 9, shortest par 3 on the course which should just be a flick with a 9i and a couple of putts and I got snagged in the heather and ended with a messy double. +3 gross back 9 (regretting that double on 15 big time!)

7/13 FIR, 12 GIR, 33 putts (3 3 putts! Argh!)
3 birds, 5 bogeys 1 double

Played at Blackmoor this morning, course looking in great shape, 71 / +2 but left some meat on that bone really.

Rushed off the 18th, jumped in the car and drove 10 mins up the A3 to Hindhead for our matchplay knockout 1st round.

I was hot off the course but the poor chap I was playing hadn’t played at the course for a couple of months so was struggling to read the speed of the course all day. I was 5up thru 6, 6up at the turn, he hit his form by the back 9 and played well but 5&3 in the end.

monthly stableford tomorrow… 27 points inbound 🤣
