Just returned from a 10 day trip to the UK and managed to fit in two rounds of golf

Great to play in the UK again although I scored poorly using 2 different sets of borrowed clubs & no warm up... and wearing 3 layers!
No rain in those 10 days... I don't know what you guys are always complaining about :p
Not fair to compare the course/green conditions to here since you've just come through winter etc although I did find it noticeable different

I got to borrow the TM stealth driver for one round and I'm no fan of TM but it was a dream to hit despite being set up for its owner. I would have happily 'kidnapped' it but I can't see myself ever paying £400 for any club

First drive in a few weeks went 70yds. Oddly enough after that I played really well. I had to shoot off early to pick up grand sproggs. Apparently I won £21. parred all the par threes as well

Medal today at our place, so our little group is heading to one of our reciprocal courses...Moor Allerton. Haven't been there at this time of year so I'm wondering how well it drains. When we get blocked at our own course (often) we usually head to Moor Allerton or Scarcroft. 30 min drive for me.

The middle loop, 10-18, is absolutely fabulous. As strong a 9 as you could wish for. 19-27 a bit meh, and soggy from memory. I suspect 1-9 will drain better as it is up high, water will drain down to 19-27. Post how you found it at this time. Lovely place to play.

Yeah, this course has a little more shazam than Scarcroft, but I actually prefer Scarcroft on a day to day basis. Strange though.....the courses are within a mile or so of each other....one is hilly, the other pretty flat. One of the guys I play with....his fav course is Moor Allerton and loves that last 9 holes. I'm like you....meh. That middle 9, you need to hit some straight shots to stay out of trouble. Although either of these two courses.....if they were closer.....I'd probably try to join. 30+ min is too far for me 3-4 times a week.

A lovely start to the day, flat calm, warm. By the back 9 the wind had began to pick up and by the 12 it was at least 3 club easterly. Real chill in it too. Played poorly onntue back 9 and even dunked my 2nd into the burn on the 17th.

Well....I played great allllll winter. Since the beginning of April I can't hit anything. Again today at Moor Allerton, just awful .....I feel guilty taking money from people when I stink the place up.....unfortunately for the other guys, they stunk a little worse than me.

Played holes 10-27. That middle 9 is a nice setup and the ground was in better shape than Oakdale....definitely a little dryer. That last 9 was just as bad as Oakdale.....but it's a bit flatter so I think the water just sits on it longer than the first 18 holes. I think I've only played the first 9 holes once....

When I was there last, pre covid, they were doing some major drainage works on that 3rd loop. You can see how it would have problems though, just the natural lay of the land.

I wonder if they keep 1-9 for members?

No idea....they "say" they move the nines on a regular schedule. Nobody tees off on that first nine while we are there....so it isn't a "member" thing. We will play there a few more times over the summer.....usually when we can't play on our own bloody course!!! Next time will probably be Scarcroft....although I would think Scarcroft would be pretty soggy right now as well.

It appears the Golfing God's don't want me to break 80 anytime soon..
They gave me so many bad bounces, non bounces, crap lies and very gusty wind that getting 29 points was a feat...
To be fair, I currently lack any confidence or feel in my game so it wasn't a surprise.....
At this rate I'll be hitting the soft cap soon with the hard cap following closely behind.....
😫.

3rd day of 18 holes on the trot. Seem to be making some progress after my game completely disappeared a couple of months back. Have gone from hitting 90% bad shots and walking off after 9 (or sometimes 5) holes, to something like 50% good 50% bad, which believe me represents progress. Even managed to birdie our Par 5 7th, which is a minor miracle given the way I've been playing.

Still a long way to go to get back to where I was last summer, but hopefully finally going in the right direction.

How quickly golf changes, played Monday in an AmAm and was pretty happy with how I played.

Today I was using the exact same clubs in a Seniors match, playing away, 4 ball betterball.

Me and my partner played okay but my putting deserted me on slower greens, I always find it harder to adjust to slower greens than faster and today I left quite a few short. That aside, the two guys we were playing against had a great day, holing many putts of 12 feet and over and they trounced us 9 & 7!
They admitted themselves that they were feeling a bit awkward and sorry for us as putt after putt went in, and they also chipped very well too, just one of those days I guess!

Hallelujah…a beautiful, sunny and occasionally warm - though quite windy - afternoon for my 2nd Rnd Summer Singles KO match. Giving just one shot, and with us having scored same pts in last Sunday‘s comp - a good match in prospect.

But I started poorly and was 3 Dwn after 3 (plenty of time, don’t panic); still 3 Dwn at the turn (keep steady, don’t panic); and still 3 down after 13 (looking tricky, keep steady, don’t panic). And I won on the 18th. By keeping steady; not panicking, and letting him make mistakes and start losing it.

He congratulated me for a great fightback. Truth is, at 3 Dwn after 13 with 5 difficult holes to play, holes that are very difficult to force birdies, I just had to keep steady, and try to play par golf one hole at a time. And wait. And in matchplay golf, when things don’t look so great, good things often come to those who are patient.

Out first thing for a dozen holes to try and find where I left my ability....
Found some of it......
Saw Foxes, deer and what looked like a badger making a quick getaway - I don't think he was digging....

First open of the year at Nairn Dunbar, decent start, but wheels fell off on 4th pulled the drive slightly left, shouldn't have been any trouble, but no sign of it. Back to the tee, my pp had found by ball in a small ditch in the rough so 20 yards from where we both agreed it should have been. 8 on the card, on the 5th in 2, 3 putted on the 6th in 2 three putted, then the same on 7th, birdied 8, hit a great drive on the par 5 9th, on in two and again 3 putted.😟 striped one on the 10th only chipped on and again 3 putted. Played better on the back 3 under for the back. Hit the ball pretty well, but putting just off. Got on all four of the par 5s in two and only birdied 2 of them😂, I think I was just too aggressive with my first puts. Played with a guy from Peterhead, who was great company, though I could only understand half of what he said 😉

76 gross was OK considering the 8 on the card ans a couple of doubles.
Good news is my handicap with sneak up as my best score will be knocked off which was an under par round. Just in time for the match play comps I've got next week😂

Played on Tuesday and won the back nine and overall. My driving was excellent by my standards. Had to shoot off and me bro sent a txt saying I had won £21.
lo and behold I played in a three man team today and we won front nine and overall. I had 2 nearest the pins which was took off with the last group, and I have parred 7 of the 8 par threes this week. My driving just seems to of clicked this last week. Happy days at the moment.

It really feels like the season has started after this week, Tuesday was a knockout interclub match at Macclesfield, tough course to go to and the result reflected that, althoguh Idid manged to win my match the team lost 4-3. Wednesday was the first long drive of the year down to Beau Desert for an open, a course that I love playing, a great day but tiring with a 90 minute drive either way. That probably played its part in my round in our first madel of the season, I played decently for the first 12 holes but went completely off the rails on the last 6 holes, I finished my round at Beau with a birdie on the last, today I finished with a 7 on a par 3
