I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Yesterday's medal.
Teeing off at 8:10am meant my playing partner and I saw the worst of the weather.
Off and on rain for the front nine caused me to misjudge the pace of putts on the damp greens. First and sixth holes were fairly short missed putts.
Heavy rain and strong wind for holes 13, 14 and 15. They were all into the wind.
Rain stopped and the sun came out for holes 17 and 18. Both down wind.
The zero putts on the 15th is not a typing error. Chipped in from off the back of the green after finding lots of interesting places on the way.
79-5 = 74 gets me nowhere, but I got £10 credit for my 2. That was a 58° flop shot over a bunker!

Lost my best score of my 20 and up I go to 4.6 :(
Back to where I was at start of this year's playing season.

I'll have a PH of 6 for Saturday's board comp. :)

Mmmmm....
A cheeky little 73 this morning, 2 over gross, 40 points, nothing worse than a 5 on the card.
3 bogeys and 1 birdie.
Worst shot of the day was the 18 incher that did a 360 on the last....
0.6 cut will put me down to 5.5
Probably the best ive controlled the ball all year
It's getting tricky now.......

Good on you, I'm going the other way up from 5.5 to 6.1 but I'm playing crap, hopefully will turn it around soon enough

I just won the Wednesday night swindle shooting LEVEL PAR through 9 for 24 points. Absolutely buzzing (and apologetic) but everyone was really pleased for me. I feel like it's been coming, I've shot 2 over a couple of times in the last month (you may remember I won the Swindle with 23 2 weeks ago) but it's SO satisfying. THIS is the golf I know I can play.

Biggest difference to usual? Driver worked. Either hit the fairway or not far off, about 270 down there. Makes such a difference - not only does it make the game easier but it improves my headspace as well. I'm not thinking about what's gone wrong, or how badly I'm playing, and I can hit the next shot autonomously, no swing thoughts, nothing.

I had an eagle putt on the 7th, from about 15, 16 feet, which I left about 4 feet short because all I could think about was, "are my legs shaking?" Then I hit the pin on 9 punching out from the left trees, and nearly made the resulting birdie putt from the fringe which would have been 1 under. I could only apologise to the people I was playing with as I could sense that they were talking about my score when I wasn't about, but they all said afterwards that it was a pleasure to watch and that they were really pleased for me. They're a good bunch :)

Played knebworth with my society yesterday. What a lovely course. Wasn't a single hole I didn't think was first class.

I played pretty well aswell.

Enjoyable day

Friendly knock with a couple of mates last night. My index is 17.5.
Front nine, distinctly average: 15 points. 😕
Played the first eight holes of the back nine in two over: single figures here we come. 😁
Bollocksed up 18: normal service is resumed. 🙁
Stupid game.

Played last night, myself, Jamie and my son in law Jack who's pretty new to the game.
Started well, tailed off - decided to call it a day after 11 where we were caught up by our lowest handicapper at the club who was out with his dad.
We teed off then invited Habib and Ahsan to play through... 'He's after his course record' says Ahsan (dad). Habib nuts one 300 yards up the 11th - slight uphill it finishes about 50 yards from the green.
As we were leaving after the obligatory Madri, they were just coming off the course - missed his course record but shot 6 under. Levels.

Rough day on the Bracken yesterday , loads of unlucky bounces and PCC was 3
Another tough morning in the rain on the Hotchkin with way too many visits to bunkers and currently the strongest player holding everyone up 😜😁

Last week I went to South Wales with a few friends. The wind was very strong throughout to say the least and here's my thoughts on the courses played:

Southerndown - booked a tee time with my friend in the afternoon. Very exposed up on a hill a couple of miles inland from the sea and struggled badly in the wind. It's a good course, but didn't do much for me (but that could be down to my golf)

Ashburnham - started at lunchtime with very strong wind and some rain, which soon eased off. After the first couple of holes played into the wind for the rest of the front nine and with it for most of the back nine. The front nine was brutal as a result and I struggled badly for the first six holes. Great links course, with some interesting holes, but would like to play it when the wind is a bit calmer.

Pyle and Kenfig - nice sunny day, although still strong winds. A course of two halves. The front nine had some nice holes in a heathland style, but from 11 to 17 is where the course goes up another level in a more links style. Some great holes there.

Royal Porthcawl - up to another level from the previous days and a joy to play. Finally started striking the ball well in part, although not necessarily reflected in the final score. This course is right on the coast and, again, the wind was very strong. The only disappointment was how rakes had been left in the bunkers. Twice in three holes my ball ended up against a rake just a few inches into a bunker and I could only play out sideways. Easily my favourite course of the week though.

For the last three of the above courses the clubhouses were full of character and almost worth a visit in their own right. Almost felt like I had stepped into a bygone age.

Earlier this week I played in an Open at Kings Norton on the south side of Birmingham. This is a very well maintained parkland course and I enjoyed playing it. Worth a visit if you are in the area. There are actually three loops of nine holes and we played the red and blue. There is also a yellow loop. One or two in the clubhouse were saying that they struggled in the wind. It was just a gentle breeze compared to the previous week. My 19 points show where my game is at the moment and had yet another issue with a rake in a bunker where I had to play out sideways because the ball was stopped just a few inches from the back lip.

There are a few players from Dorset taking part so I have been watching the leaderboard. Don’t think many of them made the cut. The scoring looks brutal but one guy is 2 under after the two rounds.

Seniors stableford yesterday. 31 points. A mix of the good, the bad and the ugly for me. Highlights were a nice 2 on the long par 3 4th, one of only 2 on the day, pays for the post game beers, and being an inch away from a birdie on SI3 after a great drive, lovely second shot and a 20 foot putt which stopped on the lip.

Lowlight was losing 2 balls on the 6th after a decent drive.

An enjoyable day, made a nice change not playing in 30-40 mph winds after the last couple of days.

Just a friendly 6-pt (whatever that’s called) knock with a couple of mates off ‘front’ tees. My golf has been rubbish for the last two months…just seemed to be falling apart. But today somehow I managed a 5 over gross (two under my 95%) - including three birdies on the front nine. Tried ever so hard to mess it up on back nine, last couple of holes especially, but managed to avoid chucking away a good round. Happy, happy.

Medal tomorrow and there are three shots difference for me between back and next forward tees. So even though I had a good knock today off forward tees I will play the back tees as I do for medals.

Ashburnham, in 35-40 mph winds during an autumn storm a couple of years ago, was, quite possibly, the most fun I've had on a golf course....👍

Squeezed in 12 holes at the local muni last night while the mrs put the little man to bed. Teed off on my own at 18:34. No one behind me and a 2ball 2 holes in front. BLISS.

Annoying part - Teeing off on 5 a long par 4 and can see a greens keeper pulling the flag on the green and taking it away… played the rest of the knock hitting to greens with no pins… (he knew I was still playing which was a piss take)

Played decent though and the putter was hot. Also video’d every par3 JUST INCASE…
