I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

The past weekend we had our swindle trip to Hanbury Manor

20 of us went

Course - I always enjoy the course because it’s got two totally different 9’s - the front 9 on a side of hill a bit exposed with lots of elevation changes , wispy rough and open to the winds - back 9 more tree and water lined around the hotel

Course was in excellent condition, fairways were soft , greens running superb

Was 1 over the first day for 35 points and 2 over the second day , didn’t play the par 5’s well - everyone enjoyed the course , was 4 hours on the Saturday and then 4 hours 20 on the Sunday with the course a little busier but thought pace of play on a hotel course was good

The hotel itself was very good , food and rooms lovely , service nice

Only issue is that the drinks are pricey there which being a Marriot is expected

Overalls for £260 for two rounds 1 night dinner bed and breakfast it was very good value and recommend it

Broadstone today with three mates. Course and greens in much better condition than they were just over a month ago when we played a club scratch match there. Didn’t play great but I always enjoy playing there. Highlight was probably making a par on the first after taking a penalty drop because I leaked my drive right and into the water filled ditch.

Just back from our annual lads trip, this year to Filey GC and Scarborough South Cliff. Both cracking course, immaculate condition and really good value.

My golf was very bang average, so frustrating. Played a bit over the last 6 weeks and played some decent stuff thinking I'd have a bit of consistency going into this weekend!! Never feel comfortable over the ball, especially on the tee, and my shots are so indifferent from hole to hole!

Great weekend with a great set of lads. Highlight was winning the partners day today where my partner, playing off 16, scored 50 points - 2 over!! Drove, hit everything, chipped in and his putting was so good today it was an absolute pleasure to see and play with.

Lovely free trip to Thorndon again today whilst ingrebourne is closed for the pga tournament this week.

Played some good golf at times and average at other times

Walked off with a 35 points but felt I left easily 5 out there if not more

Irons were striking very solid

Driver after hole 4 was on point

Played the par 3s +1 for the day which is always good 👍

It was a three ball fuddle comp, and it was mint. Best two from three all to score on the par threes. Course in reverse. First par three. Stroke index 17, 200 yards down hill into a Hoolie, pond and Bunker to the left. Group in front had 10 points after the first two and so did we. They walked off the par three with 3 blobs. We were laughing our heads off. We got three points.😖 It was a proper day of laughter and laughter. We won a roll over par three for £14 each, but i will be honest no one was really bothered about the scores.
It was a proper day of recharging one’s battery.

Seniors Open at our place yesterday. My partner and I both played really well for 43 points, should have been more, 3 or 4 putts lipped out and one defying gravity, hanging on the edge of the hole.

We were the last group out. Got in to find 2 44s were winning. However both got DQ’d as they hadn’t played the requisite 5 comps in the last 12 months. One had only put one card since the beginning of 2024!

In the end, we lost out on count back, but still got a decent prize. Weather was lovely as well, sunny, 19 degrees. A very enjoyable afternoon.

In yesterday's medal I got 3rd place net in Div1 (£20 pro-shop credit) and beat my 8th best (SD 5.3) by one shot.
A score differential of 4.5 gave me a 0.1 cut to 4.4.
How exciting!

Played Archerfield Fidra today... then drove back to Monmouthshire, got in about half an hour ago.

Wow, that's a great layout. Played from the comp tees, some tough holes and great views. Wonderful off course facilities. Got the same ball round and even found a couple of virtually new Pro V1s.
Both courses and the facilities are great at Archerfield but you would have to dig very deep into your pockets to afford the debenture then annual membership, one of my good friends has been a member since it opened, he paid £10k, he thought about packing it in a while ago but has now retired and is trying his best to get his monies worth !

I think my days of thinking I'm going to get better are over. Another 90+ score today. Worst bit is that I've got to play again before HC goes up. Totally fed up with the game.

Felt like that Sunday. Totally scunnered with it. Shot a silly score and felt like just giving it up.

Went to the range today and was striping it though so that's me reeled back in for another disaster.

9 holes tonight, tried the legato 2024 yellow LT3085. Really not great golf from me, but some of it’s just appalling luck. A 270 yard 5 wood up the middle and straight into a divot 🤯 then I dug it out into the bunker where it hit the rake and got a fried egg lie with no back swing. Then I lost it down the 2nd .. I have no idea. 3 rd okay but I think this ball is long. It’s long off everything for me, it spins more than a pro v1 and V1x .. it’s Callaway tour x distance off the tee. But I think longer off the irons. But spin isn’t sacrificed because it was stopping. It feels firm when hit, but soft when you hit gentle putts .. I like it.
I don’t know what I can do about my luck though. Plus my chipping around the greens is horrific

I'm going to the range later today to try and remember how to hit a ball correctly. Could just be a mental thing and I need to clear my head by just swiping at the ball.

Played 36 holes yesterday.

18 in the morning on the Marquess at Woburn in a member guest 4BBB. Got a cracking deal which included a full english beforehand and 2 course dinner after. I didn't play that great, my normally reliable driver was off a touch and not much else was going well, we got 32 points as a team, my PP wasn't in good nick either!

Then a midweek stableford at LB, 5:24 tee time, turned up not expecting much due to the morning round and got exactly that :ROFLMAO: finished with 26 points and my feet are absolutely killing me today.

Went back to my old place last night for a round and I have to say the place was looking good. Was nice to see some green on a golf course and getting sheltered from the wind by some trees.

It might have been my best driving performance there ever, I barely missed a fairway and I was also quite a bit further down the fairways than I'm used to being. I started the evening off in fine fashion, hitting one straight down the middle, 25 yards short of the green with 40 to the pin. Decent pitch to 15 foot and 3 putted for a bogey. That ended up being the story of the evening.

Somehow ended up shooting 79 (+9) even with 3 penalty stokes (1 drop from behind a solitary tree and an inexplicable pull hook from 120 yards into the trees on the last hole from the middle of the fairway) and I missed 5 putts from 4 foot and in. Game felt like being on easy mode with my driving, was hitting wedges and half wedges into nearly every par 4, even the stroke index 1 at 460 yards was a drive and 7 iron to the back of the green. Unfortunately my wedges and putting sucked donkey balls.
