Golf sucks.
Turned up for a round against my usual 12 index mate - he said he was very hungover and I'd be winning the match easily today, so you can guess how that went. With his low-energy 80% effort drives he hardly missed a fairway. Meanwhile with two blobs and no pars in the first six holes I found myself four down already. Next hole, the 16th (back nine first today) I had a glorious up-and-down for par hitting 7 iron to two feet, he had a jammy birdie when a huge right kick took him away from the bunker and also to two feet from the pin - shot hole so a half but still annoying. I had a nice par on 18 as well but another half so 14 points and still four down at half way.
I parred the 1st but completely lost the plot with doubles on the 2nd and 3rd, so now I'm six down and the game is pretty much over. Confirmed by a half on the 4th. Then with absolutely nothing to play for a had a three-par finish on 7th, 8th and 9th - that's the par 4 S.I.2 and back to back par 5s - to stat-pad my way to a 32 point score.
Conditions were difficult. Strong winds and baked fairways saw the ball running in all directions, and the greens were absolutely rapid. My driving was actually decent now that I think back, only had the one awful slice early on, but I'm still struggling a lot with chipping off the horrible dry patchy lies around the greens. And I had three absolute nightmares with bunkers.
Losing my best round so handicap continues to go through the roof, tomorrow I believe I'll be at 16.8 which is the highest I've been in about six years. Definitely not been that high since the Congu days. Meh.
