Awful front nine, bad enough to make me question why I even bother with this game. Practiced so much this year only to get worse and worse. The crap started on the 4th - way too much club for my approach and thinned it 20 yards through the back in an awful lie - triple bogey there. Sliced driver out of bounds on the 5th. Another awful slice on 7th and an unsuccessful chip out of trees. Knifed third shot through the back of the 8th. Just farcical rubbish that makes it look like I haven't played in six months.

Back nine was an improvement. Hit the flag with a lofted chip on the 10th - still hit the worst slice of the day with driver on 11th, but better drives on the 12th and 13th finally. Ended up parring 13, 16 & 17 and making a respectable back nine score of 18 points. Added to the 11 on the front nine making a disappointing 29.

Driving still murdering me. I have a round where it's getting somewhere and then right back to being bloody awful the next. I think I've got multiple issues to be honest, either my hands come through first and I block it right, or I come over the top, or sometimes it's both. Just beyond a joke now.

The quest for 18 handicap continues.

Think you have more chance of reaching it than I do 😂

Slow round today. Very slow. Knobbed it round in 74 though. My mate had a bit of a “game of two halves” shooting 50 on the front nine and then 34 on the back. Was muttering away to himself in the 10th tee while waiting so whatever he said must have worked.

I played steady with a minor meltdown, dropping 4 shots from 13 to 16.

Find out EXACTLY what he said, trust me, I need to know!

Got out for 14 holes before darkness. Driving was okay but way off .. must be the damn R10 sessions which will be dropped. The iron striking was crisp and accurate so scoring was good. My 30yr old putter felt lovely and was rolling every thing smoothly. The only issue was my glasses, they were not my proper distance ones .. so some stuff was a bit hopeful to find.

Took my mate for a knock round Willow Valley - played for a fiver - gave up a couple of shots off my usual playing handicap so we were both getting equal shots, and ended up losing a fiver by a couple of shots....

Had the course record holder behind us with another good player - my mate was just putting on the 13th and I heard a thud behind me - this young lads tee shot landing about 50 yards short of the green - it's a slightly uphill 339 yard par 4.... They play a different game to most of us.

Played two rounds yesterday. First was a four man scramble in which we shot a net -9. Came 6th/10. A twist on the format was that whoever took the tee shot couldn't play the second shot; I was the lowest cap and biggest hitter in my group, and if we took my drive we still often wouldn't reach par fours in two, and then our collective short game was shoddy beyond belief.

Second round was just with a couple of mates, and I shot a 90, not using my driver for the back 9 because I developed a massive slice on the third hole that I couldn't shake off. No idea what I was doing wrong, but it's nice to know that I can trust 3W more than I currently do. A non-counting score in the end, but looking back at the scorecard it really wasn't as bad as it felt. Driver just annoyed me and a few lazy, tired swings crept in.

The biggest thing for me was hitting quite a few good 3W off the deck over the two rounds, which is normally my worst shot. Highlight was the 18th where I went 3W, 3W to reach the par 5 in two and nearly holed the putt for my first ever eagle, stopping about 4 inches short.

The worst thing was hemorrhaging balls to the leaves, think I've lost 6 or 7 in the last two days  Thankfully the leaves are coming to an end now, hopefully. I went to get more balls out yesterday and had a quick look to try and tot up how many I've lost since buying them, and I think it was about a dozen and a half. Can't remember when I bought them, but it feels like I should have a box more than I do!!

One of those frustrating days when the other guy gets all the luck...
33 points with 2 blobs caused by bad kicks including hitting a greenside sprinkler head from 180 yards and disappearing into the gloom....
5 lip outs and 3 putts that finished less than a cm from dropping....
However, CVG used all his luck by sinking 3 putts of 20+ feet that, had they not cannoned into the flagstick and dropped, would have gone 20+ feet past.....
Once is happenstance etc etc etc.......
