My normal Saturday Roll up had me playing off a PH of 5 (due to the way we adjust PHs of winners to prevent regular and repeat winners). Never had to play off 5 before…never ever. And though I missed by a bit, I felt that my game wasn’t too far off it. Pleasing.

First out this morning as a two ball in a scratch medal at home club. Both of us off 2. We wizzed round in 3 hours. Other guy 1 over and myself 3 over. He won, I came second. If only all rounds could be at that pace.
It is amazing is it not. The club had its annual hairies v baldies matches yesterday, it was a shotgun start which left the course completely empty when we went off just after 12.

We didn't whizz round, we strolled gently, a two ball playing 18 holes in 3:15 including watching the wildlife and looking for his ball for 10 minutes on the 11th (because we could). So why on normal competition days do I do anything but stroll, always feeling as if I'm rushing shots and running between shots only to find it has taken four to four and a half hours. Mad.

Back to the same old same old. Stableford comp. Starting on the 8th and it was pretty cold this morning - hands were frozen and I hit the biggest hook I've ever hit in my life, considering I never actually hit hooks - right over onto the practise ground and never saw it again. Recorded a triple bogey for that hole, so great start. Missed a 1 foot par putt on the third hole, but pars either side of it and two more pars on our fifth and sixth holes meant I was actually playing well. Then another joke of a tee shot on our tenth (the 17th) as I hit a comical toe-slice with the five wood and never saw that one again either.

Managed another three pars coming in, but ultimately it's another round where I've played well and cost myself a good score with some absolutely stupid shots/holes. 83 scored for 35 points. Groundhog Day.

Another relatively quiet Sunday....possibly because it was freezing!
Started off with 3 bogeys in the first 4 holes which didn't bode well but then something clicked and I played the next 9 in 2 under...
8 4s and a 3....
Then I got to my nemesis stretch and it didn't disappoint.
Bogey, Par, Double, Double, Par to finish..
A 77(+6) that could and should have been 3 or 4 better....
37 points and a 0.1 increase due to a good score dropping off...
Surprised Fragger hasn't been on to regale the forum about his 1 point triumph....... ;)

I won by a point
Rejoice 😎

38-37 so should get a tiny cut
Played pretty solid , 4 pars , 21 out , 17 back , left at least 6 shots out there.

Room for improvement 👍

Winter league round 1 with the youth - better ball Stableford.
He did all the scoring until we got to the 6th, where he didn’t get one of his nine shots. Both made pars but mine was worth an extra point. Frustratingly we both lost balls in area to the sides of fairways where you’d expect to spot them easily - cost us a few points for sure.

Very cold start this morning in a medal comp.

I was 5 over after 6 after a really good birdie on the 6th and then was 9 over for the next 4....

I followed that with par, par, 7, 2 (birdie).

Ended with a gross 91, net 76. That middle stretch really did me over, but yet more encouraging signs.

Inverness PS Bank Holiday again today so played with the boys, tried a new driver out on the course which was not a patch on my old m2. Driving with it was pretty ropey, bit of a hook going on. Hit some great iron shots but driving and putting were not great. Highlights were an Eagle on 15th with a slam dunk 2nd shot and tap in birdies, 4th and 7th. But par on the 5th off the beach was top. No golf now fir a couple of weeks.

Had a knock round The Army in Aldershot/Farnborough with a mate who’s a member. Very enjoyable but I couldn’t get to grip with the greens and did a load of 3 putts, always frustrating that.

Played a club friendly at Batchworth Park today. Seven consecutive pars - six of them reasonable looks at birdie, the other a short sided up and down that I still can't quite understand. I know its not brilliant by the standards of many on here, but for me...well, its a long way beyond anything I've done before!

I have played 3 times this week, dodging the rain, at Ellesmere, Manchester and Dunscar, there was one common denominator, I was terrible, apart from my driving which has always been the most consistent part of game, my 2nd shot have been shocking, be it with wood or longish iron, I am having a lesson tomorrow, hopefully the pro can sort me out

Beautiful weather in Weymouth today. No wind or rain and playing in shirt sleeves. Fighting a hook all day which caused two doubles and a triple. Managed 3 birdies so not a total disaster.

Last work society round of the year. Because of my previous performances and wins this season I'm playing off of 10.

For reference, my official handicap would put me at a PH of 17.

I started very well and was 6 over gross after 9, I then got par on 10, 11 and 12 and was flying. Unfortunately 13 and 14 were blobs but I recovered well to shoot an 85, +12 for 34 points and a 2nd place finish.

The course is long and was playing longer due to the wet weather but somehow we avoided any rain, thankfully.

I've put the card in and should get a nice little cut, and I'm feeling great.

Foursomes cup first round, playing against forum legend @PieMan and his partner. Receiving six shots.

We won the first but were pretty shocking after that. After the 7th we were 4 down, including losing two of our shot holes. I hadn't even felt like I'd warmed up yet, first five holes I only hit drives and chips and a couple of putts due to the foursomes format and our course layout. I finally turned up on the 8th (shot hole) and we won that, won the 10th as well when I sunk a ten foot putt, so got back to 2 down. Had two shot holes after that but only managed halves in both, unfortunately, then made a total horlix of the 13th so we were back to 3 down and staring defeat in the face. Lost the 14th as well and shook hands on the 15th.

Really disappointed with how I played. Just couldn't get in a rhythm at all, played some good shots but a lot more poor ones. Short game was poor too. Enjoyed the round despite the dodgy weather, PieMan and his partner were great company, but always disappointing to go out in the first round. Hopefully they go on and win it now so we can claim we were unlucky, haha.

First round of Winter League this morning on a course which has held up astonishingly well to 48 hours constant rain. It had stopped by this morning and, whilst the greens were agonisingly slow as the staff have been unable to cut them, and bunkers were out of play, the rest of the course was in decent nick.

My partner and I dovetailed really well for 42 points and second place. A steady start, really pleased with how I am striking it at the moment, 7 over on my own ball.

Out earlyish with Fragger, chilly but bright.
Started on the 10th and had 2 pars to start but had to holes or 9 footers for them....Mmm....
Made a mess of 12 and scraped a double.
Had no feeling, no rhythm, no swing, no speed at all...just felt sluggish..
Managed to birdie 18 ( our 9th) to turn with 18 points and 4 over.
And then the swing kicked in.....
Birdie on the 2nd, 3 pars on shot holes and I'm flying.
Bogeys on 6 and 7 halted things but 2 pars to finish gave me a 5 over 76 for 39 points and a 0.4 cut.
Nice.
Fragger just did Fragger things.....2 pars on double shot holes, 12 points after 4 holes, 21 after 9 and then the usual Fragger turned up and he scraped 15 back....
Not bad though..

Summer has returned, about 32 degrees today, and thankfully only a 2 club wind, several times we had 4 groups on same hole so no expectations of a quick round but for social golf who cares

Our 2 ball invited a following single to join which helped slow us down a bit, nice young fella from Switzerland

No special scoring but solid 32 points

Greenkeepers Revenge today! Four-person Texas scramble but drop-out format (if your ball is used you don't hit for the next shot - apart from on the green where everyone gets to putt). If you don't know what greenkeepers revenge is, it's crazy pin positions on slopes, obstacles such as lawnmowers in your way, a couple had a pumpkin around the hole so you could only putt it in from one side, two holes had a much smaller hole that only just big enough for a ball to go in, there was all sorts going on. On one par 3 you had to throw two dice and hit the club that corresponds to it on the list!

We bogeyed our first which didn't feel too bad - little did we know that that would be the worst hole of the day for us. For the rest of it, a mixture of dovetailing, excellent putts and huge bits of luck saw us make 6 birdies and 11 pars for a gross 63, net 50! We ended up winning the event by 4 shots!

Personal highlights for me:
- a hilariously lucky birdie chip-in on the 18th where the flag was on a severe slope but I've thumped it against the pin and it dropped. With that pin position I wouldn't be surprised if some teams got bogey or worse.
- holed a big sweeping right-to-left putt into the pumpkin's mouth on the 1st.
- on one of the 'tiny cup' holes (4th) I managed to hit a wedge from 107 yards to about 5 feet and hole the putt myself despite the tiny hole. Given that hole size and unlikelihood of holing a putt, there can't have been many birdies here.

A class day, the weather was great, had so much fun playing the event and walked away with a bottle of wine and a box of balls. Fantastic stuff.
