I must say they have been the sort of scores we have become used to seeing since the WHS came into being, and also since we started playing all our stablefords from the very back tees.

Personally, I’d rather see a stableford won by a hard fought 39 than a ridiculous score on the high 40’s.
Our midweek Stableford was won with 35 points in each division.......tough, tough day atbthe office...

A lovely warm sunny day, much better than forecast.

Almost birdied the first, hit the pin with a lovely chip, tap in par.

That’s the end of the good news.

First comp of the year off the whites, course playing very long with little or no run.

Driving was poor throughout, as was most of my game.

One to forget.

Rain all day. Why did I enter the comp? God only knows. Part of me thought there might be a low turn-out so more chance of doing well. Did I do well? Of course not.

Started on the 10th and had a start so bad it was laughable - two doubles followed by two blobs, so that was game over before it began. Honestly did alright for a while after that. Three bogeys and a par to turn in 10 points (only eight holes on that 'nine'). From the 1st to the 6th I was only one over with five pars and a bogey - some proper golf emerged out of nowhere. Then the heavens opened for the worst weather we had all day, just as we caught a society four ball who blanked us and made us wait in the rain rather than letting us through, so I finished with three doubles. 27 points. Why on earth did I enter the comp? Moron.

Edit: my card looks funny if you read it the correct way round, as if I'd started on the 1st. As then it looks like I was 1 over through six and then had five doubles in a row followed by two triples for some sort of epic meltdown. 🤣

Well that was hard 😳. First white tee comp of the year, with next to no run ☹. The odd decent shot in the midst of many poor ones.

Drove well at the beginning and end but pants in the middle. Putting was awful. No feel, too tame. I had my first ever 4 putt today, I wasn't even that far away for my first putt 😭.

Weather was nice though.

Played 1st round of the Club Challenge (summer knockout matchplay) but we decided we'd also score for the May Medal as well - as it was the first medal play comp of the year. (Not , know, but permissible). Was giving away 9 shots. Have to say I played pretty well throughout - as did my oppo. Was 2 up at the turn, then got up to 3 before going back to 1. Played pretty well for holes 15 -18 to end up closing out at 3&1. Best I've played in a competition for some while. Turned out I had a good score in the medal too - a gross 82 to give a nett 69 and 3rd place (in Div 1) at present. As it was our first qualifier this year, it will give me a bit of a cut. Should be down to 13.5 - a new lowest ever...

Well, I got well and truly chewed up and spat out by the JCB. And loved every minute.

Fabulous golf course. And when I’m asked by my grandchildren if I can remember where I was the day Charles III was being crowned I shall tell them I was slapping it all over the place at probably the best course I have played in England.

Stunning.

Lost 3&2 in a 4BBB away at Chestfield in the Invicta League.
I didn't play too badly and had a few pars and even a birdie to boot. Trouble is, the greens at Chestfield are quick. Really quick. And slopey. And have severe run offs. You need to miss in the right spots, which I didn't, and three putted an awful lot and when I did two putt, it wasn't a GIR!
And I was getting 5 shots, but sadly I got 3 of them in the first 5 holes and then nothing until the 14th. My last solo shot hole was 17th and we shook hands on 16th, dammit!
It was a good, enjoyable course despite all this, and would recommend a trip down there to anyone.

How did you do on the 17th and what tees were you off?

We were asked to play off the yellows, but still a very tough test of golf.

17 was 205 yards into a breeze, but has quite a change in elevation. The pin was front right, I put a 4-iron back left and three stabbed it.

The whole place is impressive. Nice modern clubhouse and good practice facilities, and because it is corporate only it’s millionaire’s golf. We saw one other group on the course.

The plan is for it to host a Ryder Cup and the course certainly lends itself to watching galleries, but I think the infrastructure might need a little work.

A must play if you’re lucky enough to get the chance.

It was the Lancashire Senior Ladies Championship at Clitheroe today, I arrived early enough to make use of the free range balls, sadly it didnt help me start much better an early 3putt, a ball in a lake an a couple of 3 putts and I was 12 over after 6, very similar to Thursday but unlike Thursday I didn't improve much and only just broke 100.
My driving is solid, as are my short irons but I just dont know whether my 2nd shots are going to be good or not, I am so erratic with a fairway wood or long iron and as ever my putting is not to be trusted.
If I dont improve in the next month my handicap will rocket,

As predicted, unless PCC kicks in :ROFLMAO: , the Soft Cap has been reached...I just can't break 80 at the moment.
2 things that are really getting my back up currently are..
1. The number of crap lies I'm getting...it's mainly due to a lack of growth - doesn't really start here until late April
2. As a 2 ball...having to play at 3 or 4 ball pace because the Know-Nothing- Bozos in front of us have never heard of letting faster groups through....

I feel your pain, I am struggling even to break 90.

Part of the reason is the speed of the greens has doubled in the last 3 weeks....and they're not finished yet.
Had a 3 foot putt on the last today...4 or 5 inches of break on it, downhill too...so hard to commit to the putt when, in the back of your mind, you know that if you miss it you've got a 6-8 footer coming back....
Stupid game...

I get your frustrations about being held up but assuming you are referring to busy weekend play do you think it's reasonable to expect everyone on the course to stand aside to let you through?

Have to say I agree with this.

Weekends are obviously busy. As I have said on another thread, our starter always tells every weekend group comprising less than four golfers that the pace of play will be that of a 4-ball, and that they should not expect to be called through simply because they may be quicker per se. If the group in front loses ground, are searching for a ball? Fine. But a 2-ball should not expect to go charging through a weekend field simply because they’re a 2-ball. The potential for the delays that will cause should be obvious.

Again, as I have said elsewhere, that is precisely why we have, until very recently, not allowed 2-balls after 8am at a weekend.

Played in the medal yesterday and due to a combination of very little sleep (can't seem to adjust from early rises for work to sleeping as long as I want on days off) and adjusting back to slow greens (in Spain last week and the greens were lightning fast) I scored terribly. Hit some good shots early on but gave away loads of shots on the greens and started to hit some rubbish shots as I got tired. At least I avoided getting wet.

Sunday afternoons are not busy after 1pm
We waltzed round the first 9, took an hour and 20
Got to the 2nd 9 and, from what we could see, there was a 4 ball followed by 2 x 3 balls in front....nothing else....shouldn't have taken 2 hours, as a 2 ball, to do the 2nd 9 with so little traffic.
The group in front of us were not waiting on any shots, we waited on every tee shot on the 2nd 9
The course wasn't busy..

In those circumstances there’s no excuse for not being waved through. I’d be hopping.

Some years ago I was on the golf committee and we told all the members that any one, two or three ball should not expect to be called through on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
