Went out for a few practice holes on saturday, before a comp on sunday...

Was hitting the ball pretty well and was on the 5th when i had a shot to play out of semi-rough.... 2 perfect practice swings, step up to hit my 8 iron and bam.... one slightly fat shot that had the club head digging in to mud with the consistency of half set concrete, stopping in an instant while my body kept on going... i have now been on the floor for the last two days apart from a trip to the docs - torn lower back muscle and prolapsed disc :(

So, i'm layed out with not much to do and the next game of golf seems a long long way off!

Gutted.

that sounds very painful, and quite lengthy!
Dont try and rush anything though as it will inevitably get worse!!
perhaps take the time to read some rotella books and work on the mental side of the game!!
Good luck getting well...

Sorry to here that slugger hopefully you wont be out too long, sounds bloody painfull, instead of reading the mental side of the game perhaps a book on how to avoid fat shots.

As a victim of a prolapsed disc myself I can sympathise. You will get back playing in a few weeks but I'm afraid to say once you've done that the back never fully recovers and you have to live with being more 'back aware' in the stuff you do and way you move.

It's 2 years since I did mine and every so often I get a little twinge just as a minder to say "Oi, dont lean over there or dont lift it like that stupid".

Good luck, keep those hamstrings well stretched, helps with lower back issues.

Oh I sympathise slugger.
Saturday morning a twinge in the lower back. Sunday OK. Today 6 holes no problem; 7th par3 steep downhill eight iron smooth swing straight and true. Gordan Bennet the pain, could hardly walk but struggled round with my mate as a spectator;withdrawn from tomorrow's competition;doubtful about thursday,s match and a friendly with friends next saturday
Hope you recover real quick (and me!)

Been there, got the t shirt, forget lying on the floor though that made it worse for me. Twenty years ago I paid £15 to an osteopath, was back in work the next day and playing golf again at the weekend. Good luck :D

cheers for the thoughts fellow forumers... much appreciated!

the floor is quite a boring place to be. Today i've watched 5 films, including the godfather trilogy... not all it's cracked up to be imo!

as for avoiding hitting it fat - i could feel it happening during the swing and knew it was trouble... just not this much trouble!

I have cocodomol, diazepam and tramadol - hopefully some interesting golfing dreams coming up after that lot!

i'll report back in the morning!

Hope it's OK.

I have suffered with a bad problems for most of my adult life after a lifting incident, so can only offer my best wishes.

I know it's not available over the counter but Diclofenac helps me. I luckily have a few left over from previous visits to the GP.

Sorry to hear, you can never really appreciate haw bad back pain can be until you suffer yourself.

Sports physio has done wonders for me, something to consider as you recover.

Obviously follow professionals advice, but mine would be don't stay still, keep moving to stop it totally seizing up.

I recommend the Back To the Future trilogy, then the Rocky Anthology, and if it is looking long term, get the early series' of 24 on box set :D

when i stand, or stay on my feet, for more than 5 minutes, it gets worse and worse.... i can't believe this has all come from one crap golf swing!

getting really bored now. Looking at all those castle stewart pics is making it no easier.

Watched "Lucky number Slaven" earlier - pretty good film, but i'd rather be at work! Meant to be playing at Crail on Friday... been looking forward to that for so long and it's been taken away from me!!!!
