I cannot play in the rain

Cold, slippy, muddy... To me it's no fun at all.

So true. :(

I used to be young and enthusiastic, and I'd play in every weather ( except thunder & lightning )

Now I'm a fair weather golfer, bigtime.

But if you're in that situation next time, just draw a line under your game so far, and go into bad weather mode.

1) Use your handicap.

2) Only use a 3/4 swing.

3) Only use your 'go to' clubs. EG for me, the driver would not be seen again. It would be a 4h off the tee, a 6I up the fairway, as many times as is necessary, then high % chip & run wherever possible.

You can't expect to keep on scoring at the rate you were, but then, every one else will slow down, too.

Any particular reason?

hi region

several treasons but all to do with the wet!!??

I only had 1 glove with me,thats a mistake

My clubs were soaking as I left my bag cover head in my locker, another mistake (reason I did that i trusted the weather forecast where rain wasnt due until 1 HOUR AFTER MY ROUND WAS DUE TO FINISH )

Didnt bring my brolly with me another mistake

Previously evereytime ive played golf region and the rain comes(5/6 times, casual golf) i've just fallen apart....main reason possibly, my grip seems to loosen, and especially on the downswing something 'feels' wrong....every drive goes to the left (driving had been excellent yesterday up until then)....also a fair amount of fairway shots were going left.....last 5 holes took 35 shots (4 of those holes ive regularly parred )......can be no coincidence that has happened due to rain/soaking/loose grip/losing it in my head as a result..

Was just gutted as only my 2nd comp and could of been in top 10..instead of 50th.

What will I learn from it?.....I wont play in rain again!!

OR to have extra glove, brolly, club bag cover there next time, that might help!

Wonder why all my drives were going left?? (in the trees every time, cost me huge)

Cheers

Kevin

thanks crap hacker

will try to remember some of your advice.....my driver is the 1 club as a new golfer i can hit decent with,so yesterday i would never of dreamt of NOT using it when the rain came.....im not used to using woods/hybrids off the tees..maybe need to try some practice at the range with them...

IF the rain had not come I did 'expect' to keep scoring well,as had easier holes to come to.....but was mentally taking the '1 shot at a time' attitude when i was playing well..

I bet the winner/high scorers came from the golfers who wre lucky enough to miss the rain!.....or maybe not..lol

Same as Brendy to a degree. Towel under umbrella and try to keep everything as dry as possible.

However, if I'm fighting a losing battle because it's raining very hard, I'll wear 2 wet weather gloves and not worry too much about keeping the clubs and my hands dry.

Keep your gear dry, plenty of gloves and tuck a towel into your umbrella. Its just another aspect of management.

yes Brendy ive realized I need to be better prepared next time......but like I said earlier no rain was forecast until AFTER my round was due to finish.

Cheers Kev
It's common sense to me that if it's due to rain at all that day, to carry a few things though I always carry rain protection, whatever the weather.
My umbrella is permanently kept on my bag, rain hood always at the bottom of the side compartment and a small bag towel hanging which can be moved to the umbrella if it starts to spit.
I carry and as the extras weigh next to nothing it makes no difference carrying them all year round, same for any golfers that I know, carry or trolley, to me it is a basic requirement to play the game.

May sound stupid but i just try to forget it's raining, i may swing a little easier but apart from that i don't change much but deffintley try keep your grips/gloves dry helps alot.

I always carry a wet glove (unless we are forecast conditions like last weekend) and always have the brolly on the bag. If there is a chance of showers I'll put at least a waterproof top in and a full set if I'm in a comp. I usually put a couple of old gloves in a freezer bag to keep them dry if I'm playing in light rain and swap them every 3-4 holes. If it gets too wet then I'll go and put the wet glove on which grips better the wetter it gets.

Playing in the rain is about preparation and patience. Its the same for everyone so don't try and swing too hard, club up and take time to keep your hands and grips as dry as you can (spare towel in a plastic bag to keep them dry). Put a towel inside the umbrella and put your gloe in there after each shot. It is about keeping a positive mindeset too

rather play in rain than wind tho .. mind you i shot 37pts off the blue in wind & rain today , doubled 17th had 157 2nd shot into a gale , hit 4 iron (normaly hard 9 or easy 8) & came up short.. prefer rain to that :(

Good job you were not in our Texas Scramble team today, boy did it bounce, and bounce, and bounce and bounce!

Well Homer this sounds like good advice thanks.Rather have this advice than something like 'your not the only one'.
Another mistake! I definetely began swinging too hard, especially the more irate I got with bad shots.
Also didnt no there was such a glove as a 'wet' one.

Thanks

Kevin
