How's your rough?

First cut is OK - but only for hybrids or no more than a 5i. Second cut - just get it out and into the first cut - fairway would be nice but don't over-stretch yourself. Uncut? You spotted exactly where your ball came to rest I hope!

Tough, and getting tougher by the day.

Anything beyond the first cut isn't a guaranteed find, and is almost certainly going to cause a dropped shot, even if you've got a shot out. Especially as its still wet, the club just gets snagged, and makes it very difficult to gauge the line or distance.

It feels a little too punishing in my opinion, but I'm sure I wouldn't say that if I was finding more fairways!

I'm playing Harborne in a few weeks in your members invitational , as my father in law is a member there. Generally plays tough on that day, rough is usually left up a bit, so if its bad now, I'm praying it gets a shave before I play. He Says the greens are excellent currently.

It got a good cut as it has got very thick with the growing conditions being perfect at the moment

American Comentator...........Gary is in the thick rough...............Gary has chosen to play a 2 iron.

Oh how we laughed in Scotland.

In our Pro-Am last week I watched a lad tee off the 1st - watched by one and all and with the PGA tour wagon to the side - and hit it maybe 30yds forward and 20yds offline - and crucially 2yds into our deep rough. He found it - eventually. Took three mighty hacks to move it out onto the first cut then hit it 30yds straight back into the long stuff. He picked up - wimp :)

Ours has gone from manageable to dire in the space of a fortnight, it's literally got that bad that anything misses a fairway by more than two foot runs the risk of being lost.

We had a major on Sunday and everytime you missed the first cut you had to reload through caution and to save the walk of shame back.

This was a major contributor to slow play with most rounds being 5hrs plus, ours being between 5:30 and 5:45 due to being at the back of the group.

I low we have had wet humid weather which speeds up growth but why do clubs do it? As it was I level hc on after 16" but the last two holes took me from in the running to net 78.... Why make the rough so deep at club level?

So,... How's yours.

Sounds about right. So I'm not the only one.

We have our club championship on Saturday, I went to play a match last night (one of our match play knockouts), and the rough is TOUGH!
I really fear for anyone straying off line on Saturday, because it could simply ruin a good round. I'd rather be short and in the fairway than go for something and miss in the rough. I can see there being plenty of conservative golf being played...
