How's your rough?

First cut is fine as it's cut at least twice a week at the moment with the immense growth rate but under the trees it's a lost ball unless you're very very lucky but then you're more likely to break your wrist than manage to get the ball out.
Now I understand that we're not ment to be in there, which is fine, but we have rough that deep within 5 yards of one green on a long par 3 that it's a reload.
It did look like some of the deep rough in common landing spots under the trees has been cut and it sounds like the rest will be done soon.

on both courses The rough isn't too bad, the heather has had a good cut as well so it's quite difficult to lose a ball on both although my old boss managed to lose 8 brand new pro v1's last Thursday night when I took him out on the bracken  You have to be really really wild to lose a ball.

The rough is not too bad on all of our courses and thankfully is being cut regularly. Did play on the PGA at Gleneagles yesterday and it was brutal, not sure if this is how they want it set up for Ryder cup but a yard off the fairway and your in the thick stuff and wedging out at best if you manage to find it.

Our course is a mess at the moment, terrible management and complacent green keepers.

We are having a real problem with clover, it's not a surprise one as it's been getting worse each of the last 4-5 seasons. On Sunday it was just a farce as unless you could physically see your ball on a half the holes then you had to keep hitting balls to ensure that you weren't blobbing!

This clover is literally just off the edge of a number of fairways so it's meaning that unless you're hitting every fairway the chances of a lost ball are almost guaranteed if you end up in there. Management seem to have the problem 'under control' although this is just a barefaced lie as nothing has been done to combat the issue.

At the weekend rounds were taking an hour longer than usual as people trampled the clover and the number of blobs per round was huge. God knows what will happen at the next medal however I'd put money on the number of NR's breaking all known records!

It's very fortunate for the club that subs have been paid as if they were due in the next month or so I don't think there would be any members left!

Nightmore rough at our place on our top course. Despite ideal conditions at the weekend. CSS went up by 3 to 75! It was a real hack fest all round. Still at least no .1 back for me....

I played in an Open foursomes where the rough was up but the fairways were quite wide.
One of the opponents was lowish handicap who sprayed a few drives and lost a few balls. I think he was desperately trying to impress the 'wee girl' who was out driving him. He moaned constantly all day about the rough legnth and spoiled the day for my daughter and I.
When we had our meal he was still going on about the rough and my daughter let rip at him saying that if he can't hit fairways that wide he should get some lessons and not enter competitions like this until he can control the ball better.
I just sat there desperately trying not to laugh as the guy's face went purple.

The rough at my course is shocking. You can be 6ft off and you risk not finding your ball. I understand why it hasn't been cut yet, due to rainfall but it is our open day Saturday and I'm hoping they give it a chop before then.

Ours has gone from manageable to dire in the space of a fortnight, it's literally got that bad that anything misses a fairway by more than two foot runs the risk of being lost.

This was a major contributor to slow play...

I played at Carnoustie Buddon last week. Very much the same. Not just the length, but the thickness was the problem. Lost 2 balls on holes where I would never expect to lose them in normal conditions, especially as both originally bounced on the fairway and couldn't have been that far in the rough. I actually lost another two on the practice chipping area the next day when I slightly overhit them going for the far pin. The balls couldn't have come to rest more than 15 feet from the flag and were lost!

I feel your pain. RAGC was going the same way a couple of years ago. Luckily for us, we employed a new general manager and new course manager and things have improved dramatically.

ours has got very thick in the last 2 weeks, another week and you will have to reload if you miss the fairway. Thats the name of the game though, keep it in play.

Brutally thick at the moment. The G/K have been cutting but can only do so when conditions allow. The most annoying thing is losing a ball 3 yards off the fairway, it's defo a case of reload if in any doubt. This makes medal play a bit tedious if people aren't prepared for the course conditions.

Tough, and getting tougher by the day.

Anything beyond the first cut isn't a guaranteed find, and is almost certainly going to cause a dropped shot, even if you've got a shot out. Especially as its still wet, the club just gets snagged, and makes it very difficult to gauge the line or distance.

It feels a little too punishing in my opinion, but I'm sure I wouldn't say that if I was finding more fairways!

I played the 2010 off the blues yesterday. It was ball on fairway or lost. i managed to lose 6 balls:angry:
