Hybrid, iron, wedge into the green for 1-2 puts for par/1 over.

Lots of bravado on this one and any sort of a head wind would see many come unstuck

It depends whether it's a hole that plays into the wind or not?... We have a par 4 of similar distance at 480, but 95% of the time it plays wind against. Last week of the yellows @ 460 I hit driver 3w to pin high, off the whites I've never got there period.

For me it would depend whether I was playing wind against more often that not, but if it was on my home track I'd go with this.

For 3 or 4 bounce games I'd try and smash a driver, but if with a good drive I was hitting the ditch that would be a no go option unless the wind was behind. If I was getting cough but the ditch more often that not,mid play 3w, lay up 20 yards shot of the pond and wedge in, at least giving me a chance of a par.

Driver
Drop from ditch
3w/hydrid
Possible drop from pond,
Wedge on
1 putt

On a bad day that wee hole could be a card wrecker,

Ha ha you're spot on. 16/17/18 have a habit of wrecking many a card!

Off your hc, play for bogeys, a par is awesome but... If you could kill a good card on this stretch why take chances.

Our first is a par five which is easy reached in two with a good drive, but going in for a hit in two I averagely scored 6, I started playing as a par 5 and by eliminating danger I've had more birdies there than any other hole, also eagled it when I played with vardon a few weeks back,

Weather being fair and assuming fairly flat, driver over the ditch and short iron to the approximate area of green leaving a rear end like a rabbits nose up and down for par or easier 2 putt.
My short irons are pants, did that show through? :)

Depends on the day and the round.

Nothing to lose in Stableford / knock then probably take a driver over the top and hope to clear it with a good one, or come up short with a poorly hit one.

In a medal or a match, probably a 3 iron to leave around 210 and then a high floaty hybrid thing which should have more than enough legs to carry the pond.

Wind into, a driver and then a hybrid/3wood. Would back myself to carry the pond and would prefer to try and make 4 from just off the green in a bunker/rough than from 100 yards back.

Similar to Jim for me and id add another option...... 3 wood off the tee with a 5 wood approach..... Not enough club off the tee to reach the ditch and plenty in the 5 wood to carry the water.... And rely on my short game when i miss the green:lol:

And lets be honest...... If any club golfer is expecting to hit that green more than 50% of the time from over 200 yards then i think that they need to reassess their expectations!

Would like to think I could carry the ditch but know I am unlikely to. So lay up with a 3 wood, I could go for the green with my 7 wood from here but a risky shot for me. I would then lay up to 120 yards out which is a full PW to me normally I am good with this and should give me a putt I would hole 50/50 so some pars some bogeys.

A par here would be a good score here and bogey would leave me happy I have a shot take a 5 and move on if I got a par 3/10 times I played the hole happy days.

Can easily see how this could be a card wrecker

Three wood short of the ditch then, depending on the lie/wind/how I feel, 3 wood to the green or lay up with a 9 iron leaving a wedge into the green.

If wind was in face take 3wood hoping I don't put it in ditch then 21* hybrid to green if any other wind driver over with a 7 iron into green

I would love to set up a hole something like this and have everybody who thinks they can carry that ditch off the tee have a bash. I bet the percentage that actually carry it is very small.

Your looking at your drive being what? 270+ yards in total to carry that ditch imo.

It depends on the weather & how I'm playing.

- tail wind and/or driving well, I'd go for it - driver & mid iron
- head wind and/or driving poorly, lay up - 3 or 5 wood & long iron/hybrid

There's no real danger just in front of the green, so even if you under club slightly it may run onto the front edge or close enough for an easy'ish up & down.

Spot on, i played a course recently, water at a mere 200 yards carry. As was quiet me and a mate played 3 balls. One we tried to smash it over water, one we got as close as possible and one we payed up short. I par'd it once. And that wasn't with carrying the water.

Id take 250 total all day long if I could find the fairways consistently.

Re op. Lay up then two pw as more confident with full shots than rolling it close and chipping water.

Belt the life out my driver and hope for the best - even with a christmas crackerjack of a shot I'd be short of the ditch but probably in the trees

2nd drop shot

3rd 3 off the tee sky it 150 yards

4th nothing to lose cream the hybrid with a percect strike straight into the drink

5th drop shot

6th thin the wedge over the back

7th flyer from the rough to the front of the green

8th putt lip out to 2 feet

9th putt 4 feet past

10th hole out through the back door

DQ for crying on the green
