How many qualifiers throughout the winter?

Our club only has 1 qualifiers a month from October to March. I spoke to the handicap secretary about this and he said that some people don't believe we should have any qualifying competitions at all over winter?

Is that standard at other clubs, or would you expect more?

one a month same as. Stableford with the odd mid week one as well. Why not? The Pro takes the call on the morning of the comp to weather its a qualifier however based on the weather i.e frozen greens to wet etc etc

Ours officially end in November and restart in April although I have heard a whisper that they might run one a month through the Winter.
If the course is playable, with nothing to stop qualifiers,, they should be played all year.

We don't have any after October 14th till April. Not sure I would want any though if your not on the fairway balls can vanish in the rough be it plugged / under leaves. It would make for a slow medal because at least 1 of the group per hole would be on a ball hunt and possibly a walk back to tee.

Same here at Bangor, the course is simply too wet in the winter months.

We have qualifiers all year around, this week is a stableford and a bogey, the greens have just been tined
so whats the point. Ive never known our club not to have qualifiers all year around.
This winter im really cutting down

Last qualifier of the year is this Saturday. We don't have enough during the summer and none during the winter. It's really the only thing about my club I'm not totally satisfied with.

Historically we haven't, but there has been a change of ownership this year so not sure what the crack is.

I'm happy with no qualifiers over the winter though. Like people have said courses get shorter, rough becomes less penal, greens are slower etc etc.

I've always found it easier to shoot low in winter with the easier course set ups. I would hate the thought of being cut based on that and be able to play to a new handicap throughout the summer.

Can't agree with that. There is a set limit as to reduction in course length to allow qualifiers. Colder weather inevitably means less distance on shots and slower greens don't necessarily mean easier putting. CONGU actively encourage winter qualifiers if normal medal conditions prevail.

None from start of Oct to end of March.

I'd like to see a few when conditions allow, even if off the yellow tees, we have an SSS for them so can't see the problem.
