Just got thinking,
Playing the other day, with a stranger...
I asked how he liked his taylormade superfast rescues, he replied with well i have only hit one once but i like them... BTW i had just caught a 5 wood massively fat, only went about 40m :p Straight after that he said:
Do you want a hit??
Of course i said yes, but only after asking he if he was sure after that previous shot
I hit it ok, Very low, bad contact,
I then got out my 5 wood again and hit a beauty,
But question is. How many of you guys would do that? Offer someone like me a go at one of your clubs? regardless of age etc? :p

My regular playing partners are welcome to try my clubs but with respect if there was any hint of me inheriting a sky mark then no chance. Likewise if I was playing badly I wouldn't want to try a friends club.

If I'm happy that the person I'm playing with is competent then I wouldn't have a problem.

I certainly wouldn't let them have a go until I had completed a few holes so I could see they were capable of striking the ball reasonably.

What damage could they do above what you could do?

Surely, if they damage the club then they get their cheque book out?

I wasn't thinking along the lines of skymarks - yes I can and have put them on my pristine clubs at some stage.

But would you allow a complete novice to use your clubs and how would you know if they could afford to get their chequebook out?

Happier to lend them an iron than run the risk of a sky mark on a driver. I'd have to watch them for a few shots first but in general terms I'm not adverse to letting them have a swipe although my irons are considered old(ish) now and so not going to get many takers

A complete novice - my irons would probably be no good to them but I'd let them have a swing on the course. I wouldn't in a house, car park, etc for obvious reasons.

Would a complete novice be on my course - probably not.

But, in theory, I'd let anyone have a swish with my clubs.

I'm presuming that anyone I'm playing golf with has laid out for their clubs, equipment, membership, etc so will have the funds to replace any clubs of mine that they damage.

I gave Steve Kemlo a shot of my driver at Dundonald. By Christ was I not standing there with my eyes shut, fingers and toes crossed praying to every and any God up there "please don't sky it, please don't sky it, pleeeeaaaasssssssssssssse don't SKY it!!!!!!"

Or, simply say "Yeah, with this club you need to tee it up VEEEEEEEEEEERY low - in fact, off the deck is probably best."

everyone can hit a bad shot.

as long as they are not complete beginners I dont mind anyone asking for a try.

I've recently been offered use of an Odyssey XG1 putter to see if I like it before commiting to buying one, guess this is similar but then again you cant really do any damage to a putter.

I once put my card down as a deposit so a mate could test out a graphite 5 wood once, the bastard hit the deck on his third swing, head went further than the ball and the chap from the shop had to halt play on the packed driving range while we spread out to find the head!

They can have a go with everything a part from my new driver and 3 wood.

down the range the other day a father and son started talking to me and were looking at my irons so i gave the 7 iron to the kid and said try it - he looked as if i had just handed him a rattlesnake bless but once he hit it a few times his eyes lit up. :)
