How many duffs in your average round?

even on your very best rounds you can look at one or two duffs/thins etc on the way around. its about limiting them, rescueing the score asap and not letting it run into a big number.

5/Depends how many green I miss!

and therin lies the differences

I will have shots that I would consider 'duffs' but they rarely fall within the OP's definition of a duff anymore (not never, but less than one a round :))

In terms of what I consider a less than acceptable attempt, it's probably about 10 - but taking Monday's game my playing partners called 'good shot' on some of those!

Sneaking suspicion you've misunderstood me - but I agree with you non-the-less - I was making reference that my real duffs are around the green.

I agree with you that if you or I catch a full shot heavy instead of going 150 yards it might go 135, or thin it might go 160 yards whereas a 28 handicapper (generalisation warning) catches 1 fat he probably doesn't need to move his bag before he hits it again! (good job I'm not playing this weekend now I've said that!)

Websters dictionary describes it as:

A Duff - To top, toe, heel or whack the ground first, causing the ball to move a fraction of the desired yardage

Where as shooting it 10 -15% too long, short, left or right is simply poor judgement :D

If you're talking about complete duffs where the ball literally goes about 10 feet...... not many.

I know when it's going to happen too, as I can feel the laces on my shoes loosen in preperation

6.

I don't very often have a complete miss-hit, but very often hit horrible shots.
Last round I had 3. A drive pulled about 30° left onto the wrong hole, a fatted 4 wood that went about 100' straight up and a very thin 4 wood that went 100yds 6" off the ground.

Single figures is not the ball striking heaven that a lot of others appear to think it is.
