How has your season gone then??

I have really enjoyed this season.

A 0.1 on the first qualifier put me up to 22 and I didn't really make much of a dent in that until June/July. My golf regressed quite a bit and over the two qualifiers for our club champs I failed to break 100. That forced open my wallet and on a whim I bought a TM mini. Since then my scores have tumbled and I'm now down to 16.6.

Over the last few weeks I've also been really pleased with my iron play. I'm getting a much better flight and sending it long and straight, kinda gutted the season is finishing to be honest.

H/C down to 9.3 from 10.4 with a brief flirtation at 11. Won a monthly medal, a couple of quarter finals, winning the mixed foursomes final. Won the GM day out at Beau Desert and on Saturday, won best gross score and longest drive. With Kenilworth deciding to put mats on the back tees during winter to enable winter medals for those that want to, there is a chance of further cuts hopefully.

I seem to do the same thing every year , start the year well then lose confidence chuck a load of crapy comp performances in then right at the end of the season find my game , culminating in my last 2 rounds 78 and yesterday 75 my best ever , wish I could maintain this type of form

Really good in many ways.

  • Golf club closed, became nomadic.
  • Played a great round with work colleagues, holed a monster snakey putt and chipped close on last for lowest gross.
  • Started going to a local par 3 and bought a 10 round ticket saving me money (2nd 9 is a couple of quid after that)
  • Shot mostly between +1 and +4, had a handful of levels and one -1
  • Had four consecutive rounds at the 9 hole course that totalled to just +4 (36 holes).
  • One almost hole in 1 (less than a foot away).

Well I think my aim was to get down to 6 . something from 7.5 and I am currently clinging narrowly onto 8.something so not great to be fair.

Worst season to date. Fell out of love with the game for a long spell, and only getting back into it. Determined to beat it!

Weird really, happy with how it's ended up though. Haven't had any sparkling rounds at all, usually have one nice -2 or -3 to offset the shoddy rounds but I've been captain level par virtually all year in comps. Not complaining one bit though and well surprised to have been so consistent - that's kind of new. Won a nice trophy with a net 68. It's been the same story for many at the club so maybe conditions have just been a bit tougher this year.

Hcp is a bit unchartered territory as not sure whether to set a target or just keep on keeping on. Will probably go the latter and not think too much about it. Would be nice to be scratch one day but don't think it'll happen by getting obsessive or anything daft. Is it contradictory to say that I've passed any expectation I had when starting the game but also to say I don't think I've reached my best yet?? Meh, shouldn't overthink it and just try to keep hitting better shots in practice and use them wisely when on the course.

Very disappointing season really. Played in at least one qualifier every week since March and the net result is up 0.1. Last 2 weeks my round has been destroyed on 17 and 18 when decent cuts were there for the taking. One more chance on Saturday with the last qualifier of the year.

Re: How has your season went then??

Not too bad. To 13.5 from 16.1 so not bad. Still got the annual review so may lose a little bit there as well. Might get some more qualifiers in before the end of the year subject to course conditions.

Re: How has your season went then??

It's been a really good year, started the year with a bad case of the shermans, but my target for this year was single figs and a board comp. as it is I got to 8.3 before going up .1 in the last compe so smashed my target and dropped close to 30% off my hc.

In addition to this I won the hc decision of the club champs, joint leader on day 1 and outright leader on day 2 which I was stoked about as the course was playing at its hardest and most either melted on day 2, or played well on day 2 after a mere on day 1. The fact I heard the same score on two days was a big achievement. In addition I also won the spring meet so that's two majors and got the the semi finals of the matchplay knock outs.

It's head down time now as I don't feel 6 hc is out of my reach for next season,

No reason at all, if i can do it anyone can, even on an Inland links;)

Re: How has your season went then??

Brilliant. Down to 14 h/cap (took up golf 2.5 years ago), won first prizes, and played different courses. Changed irons which was a revelation, found a level of consistency with my driver, approach shots drastically improved and in the past 6 weeks found something with my putting that still leaves plenty of room for improvement, as does my chipping so still excited for the winter. Fully expect a steady decline!

Re: How has your season went then??

Poor til I started driving the ball straight and now my handicap has started goin the right way. Two more comps til end of season and then practice through winter.

Mine was actually really good! I have had 2 cuts so down to 25.2 from 28. I had a 3rd and a 4th placing during the season whereas before I would only wish to not come last.

I am hoping that with a bit of practice over the winter next season should be mine for the taking!

Re: How has your season went then??

I've had a good year. Changed Clubs recently which I'm really enjoying. I've been made very welcome. Bought a new putter which has done the job, played a few different courses and we've all enjoyed fantastic weather through the summer.

As for the handicap it's been my first year as a single figure handicapper and I've managed to finish 0.1 lower than I started.

Most of all I've enjoyed all the banter on the course.

Re: How has your season went then??

I've had some ups and downs. The early part of the season and summer were very inconsistent due to back problems and fighting a fade that crippled my game. I was lucky enough to have a good playing partner and despite the inconsistencies, he played brilliantly and we managed to win the club foursomes cup.

The last month or so has seen a big improvement being second in the Medford, winning the September medal and then winning last weeks Stableford. The only let down was a club weekend away where I had Man Flu and failed to score more than 20 points on either day, coming rock bottom last, however the last two trips have seen my driving back on track and a vast improvement in my ball striking. It's just a pity it's taken all year before it's come right.

Re: How has your season went then??

Got my first handicap last weekend (15) and won the first competition I played in . So its a good start and hopefully can keep it up . This weekend is the last competition until next season , I just wish I'd started earlier in the year

Re: How has your season went then??

Joined my first club at the start of the year and was given a handicap of 19. I'm currently playing of 10 so not too shabby! Official handicap is 9.9 so hoping for a single figure score on the last medal of the year on Sunday to get me to single figures. Swinging the club better than ever so am really confident.
