How has your season gone then??

Re: How has your season went then??

Do most people judge how their season has gone by their HC?

Not in terms of enjoyment, but in terms of success.

Purely in terms of enjoyment I enjoy almost every year exactly the same. The only year I wouldn't enjoy would be one I didn't get to play enough. Every single time I'm on the course (or in the clubhouse) I enjoy it whether playing well or badly so the only variable measure of how the season has been is the scoring.

Re: How has your season went then??

Handicap wise the season's gone very well 19.8 down to 13.4 and ending on 13.9. Things were going superbly until I damaged my knee cartilage and had to take a long spell off. Nothing but 0.1's since then but it's fine, at least I'm playing.

Ability wise, my short game is better than it's ever been. Previously the bane of my golfing life, my chipping has improved no end.

I'm a happy bunny.

Not me. Was a goal but primary objective at start of year was to win a board comp (tick), then get to back to single figures (fail). But when game collapsed my #1 objective was to be able to hit the ball with an iron without s***king it (tick). Two out of three ain't bad!

Re: How has your season went then??

For me the golf "season" is all year long with the exception of qualifiers which almost stop during winter - with a few exceptions and course condition dependant.

So the season in terms of qualifiers has gone better than I could have dreamt even though I didn't play heaps of them. Managed to play in a few as I know I can and handicap has now far exceeded my lifetime goal never mind season's goal - didn't put a number on the season as that's too much pressure...

Can't think of many notable wins - foursomes summer ko winners, runner up in club champs and won a few qualifying comps. For me though golf is me versus the course and winning stuff just not really on my agenda so much. Pairs stuff is different and really enjoy that format as well as matchplay - then it's about winning!

So this year so far I've played some really nice new courses and lots of away days at local courses too. I've a few days in Spain to look forward to next week as well. I really look forward to the winter ahead of practice/lessons/practice and hopefully emerge in spring playing good golf and enjoying it. Whilst they're not mutually exclusive I struggle to enjoy it when I'm playing like a numpty!

Re: How has your season went then??

Pretty good for me, nearly the same as Patrick.
Started the season off 6.3, should be finishing on 4.6. Played a lot of new courses with new people. 2 new sets of irons, 2 new drivers and a new putter.
Enjoyed my golf lots this year, very consistent all year long with the last few months being the highlight. Practice has paid off finally.

It would be a yea for me Phil , i play to get better & lower my handicap , i play golf with a smile anyhow..

but as much as i enjoyed the successes and adventures ive had this season ,

at the end i will judge my overall season on handicap & it aint looking good

Re: How has your season went then??

Might sound odd but I think big strides have been made having just returned to my original 18.0 handicap when joining my new club. It's by far the most difficult course I've ever played (I've not played dozens of courses but it is regarded as a tough one espcially with a bit of wind blowing.)
Was regularly going up .1 in most comps until the last couple.

Had to learn links shots and to regularly accept the bad luck as well as the good but it has been the most enjoyable year of golf I've had. Hoping to push on next year and get down a few shots now I have a bit of experience playing there.

Re: How has your season went then??

Would have liked to have got my hcp down further, which I probably could have had I not bust my finger in the first week of August. Was in one the best and longest 'on form' patches I've had then had to have 6 weeks out with my hand in a splint.

.....However, 10 days after the splint came off I went to the League to Dubai regionals and finished 2nd scoring 35 points off 3/4 at MacDonald Portal!! February cant come round quick enough.

Had an enjoyable season. Handicap has gone from 11.4 to 11.7 and so I'm not that stressed about that and never use it as a total barometer for my game anyway. Ball striking improved, thinking in the course improved. Still a couple of bad holes ruining a good round but hey ho. On the plus side, when I am swinging it badly I am more capable of getting it round better. I want to work on a few things over the winter to try and get more control over the club head but overall I'm pretty happy

I've gone up .2 but I've had a great season, loved my golf this year and I've played much more than I have in recent years, complete new bag bar the driver too.

Highlights for me were getting up and down from 78 yards with a putter on the last during the KOKs at St Andrews, played like an imbecile for the first 12 then OK on the way in. Winning the raffle at my first senior open at Strathmore and the day with my missus and our mates there during the summer that was the prize and playing the front nine at Cruden Bay in 35 mph wind and driving rain in better than my handicap (back nine destroyed me), the whole trip to Northern Ireland with the wife at the end of May, in particular playing The Valley at Royal Portrush, wonderful course.

My best round of the year was in our high handicappers knockout when I faced a guy who casually mentioned he'd been 15 handicap two years ago but had left his previous club but had continued to play regularly - he'd put in three cards after joining my club at end of last year and been given 28 so I was giving him seven shots - I had to play well and was round in 12 over but lost 1 down, it was brilliant fun.

I had lessons regularly for most of the last year but have now stopped for the moment, think I've got the fundamentals Ok and just going to concentrate on making sure I play often over the winter.

Loved meeting some of the forum members for the first time this year too.

Where has that egregious grammatical atrocity went then Ethan? :)

n.b thank you for teaching me a splendid new word with which I can embellish my normally egregious postings

'went' grates a bit with me as it is a common grammatical error made in NI where I grew up. But at least it isn't as bad a 'would of' instead of 'would have'. Egregious is a term used more often in the US. It is like heinous but not quite as bad.

Started at 15.4, currently at 15.4 with, I believe, one more qualifier this year.

Started the season well and got down to 14.3 but been plagued with elbow problems since the middle of May.

On the plus side, had two wins and a place in club comps, met a load of great guys from the NW via this board, and also played a load of new courses.

season went well i think

stayed at 6 handicap after moving to a new club
played for scratch team there picked 9 points up out of possible 12
won a few comps and played couple new courses

most of all enjoyed it more than previous years

good practice over the winter and try get down to cat 1 next year

Started at 6.1, quickly went to 6.9, 0.8 cut back to 6.1 then buffered or got cut most of the rest of season and ended at 4.9.

With pretty much zero practice due to children and almost gave game up in may as I lost all interest in it. Just started going out and enjoying the game again rather than worrying about score.
