Easy one......Stop what you`re doing and look at them, then, when they stop talking and look at you, you calmly say, "Sorry don`t let me disturb you, carry on", and give them your hardest Paddington hard stare. Job done

I'll generally step back and ask, politlely, if they'd mind canning it while I hit my shot

Your right it is, it is one of the first rules of etiquette, but coming on here groaning about it wont solve the issue... just tell them to be quiet politely and get on with it, if they don't like it... who cares.
