How do you record your stats while on the course?

No
I concentrate solely on getting the ball in the hole, not how I am statistically managing (or not) to do so!

It's fairly easy to remember the whole round shot by shot afterwards if you want to analyse anything.

Same as Birdieman, I don't care if i miss x amount of fairways or y amount of greens. As long as I am getting the ball in the hole in as few a shots as possible I couldn't care less how, statistically, i am doing it. :D

I created myself a little scoring system, identifying quality of strike, aim and distance and noted it down on a small excel sheet I printed out (score card size). At the end of the round I bung the numbers into the sheet on the PC and it tells me where most of my shots are going.

I suspect most people reckon they know the weak points of their game, but for example, do they realise that all their 9 iron shots go right of the target line, or 7 irons are short of the target, probably not.

It works for me, I have found that identifying and working on problem areas brings quicker results, but it's a case of horses for courses.

I have to say i am one of the camp that just want to get the thing in the hole regardless if miss or hit greens and fairways. This time of year especially as i am only on the course once or twice a week so want to enjoy it when i am there instead of having to woory about marking stuff down.

No offence, but with 152 shots, i dont think your 'stats' are too important tbh.

Just concentrate on 2 less shots per hole to start with !!!!

When your'e missing Fairways & GIR, and taking less than 40putts/round, perhaps you're stats will be more valuable.

Apply yourself on each stroke to the best of your ability, and dont over complicate things by taking down your 'stats', I dont think it will help you yet.

There are certain holes on my course where I aim to finish tight down one side of the fairway or in the rough is just fine. If I've hit a cracking shot to where I want it to go, why the need to mark it down as a missed fairway?

Tour courses (some) are set up where hitting fairways is very important, however even at county level I have only played on a handfull of courses where missing a fairway slightly becomes a major issue in moving the ball to the green with my next shot.

Same as, it easy to reflect on shots and areas of the game after. Just gives you more to think about if you do it on the course.

Surely it's not too hard to be able to recount your round after you've finished. We are all able to chew the fat over the best and the worst holes of the day in the bar afterwards.

Remembering the stokes you play during the day and the putts taken should come easily to mind.

I was suggesting that you reflect on things during the round.

but i do think that making a note of what actually happened is helpful. I belive that most people when looking back would not be able to effectivly analyse thier game without the stats. too many 'if only I'd...' come into it.

Yup with 152 shots per round, Id think its fair to say it would be beneficial to practice every aspect of your game and not bother with competitive rounds/analysis until you have this figure down to around 100.

I think it can benfit what ever the score/hc. The rewards my be great the higher the hc if it accelerates the rate at which the player improves.

Are you planning on selling something?? A program for the iphone or something???

Am with birdieman after i round i can remember every shot easy enough.

And on the course i dont think about GIR or anything like that.. Get the ball in the hole is my goal..

There is a clear divide here. You guys off low single figures know your game inside out. When you're hot, you're hot when you're not its probably just a bad day at the office. For us mid-high handicappers any data on our performance is useful. I have limited practice time so knowing what to get lessons on and what practice more of is really helpful. Its horses for courses.

As for the OP question I print out the SS2 scorecard and mark it as I walk between shots. Takes no time at all and still have plenty of time to focus on next shot.
