Maybe you should lol .......................played 36 holes at hankley common today , could not read or putt today , just one of those days , mind it was blowing hard and we were playing foursomes , not the best format

What about the pace of play ? Surely it's more than feasible to check out the line of a putt whilst others are checking theirs out as well
No reason at all to effect the pace of play - prob take as much time as reading a notepad.
My read with a chart takes 15-20 seconds. Not marching around the green, across other lines. 1 position, 1 read. You've walked around the hole, back to the ball, no doubt looked at it from behind the ball. Like others, your so entrenched and anti Aimpoint, the fact I can do it in a fraction of the time will make no difference. You do it your way and I'll do it mine. I'm happy I'm making more putts since, and certainly better reads even if the ball doesn't go in. Far fewer three putts.
However as I've said and you and others have missed, a lesson with a PGA pro will improve the OP's technique and he'll get some basic reading techniques anyway. It doesn't have to be solely based on Aimpoint. I'm done. Bored arguing against closed minds

Nope, don't read behind the hole or behind the ball, don't even trace a line to the hole, don't imagine water running down ( what a dopey visualisation), I trust what I do. I holed 15 25 and 40ft birdie putts on the bounce at the weekend and that alone made me club champion.

I don't match around the green and I don't go across other lines. I read my putt whilst others are putting out to ensure no delay. Appears to be doing the job for me right now.
