How do you read putts?

More or less the same as I do. Funny I've stopped having any practice puts over the ball. Seems to improve the concentration for me.

hmm I used to do that and was an excellent putter, miss a couple and doubt creeps in so take practice swings to minimise the risk....then miss it.

Might go back to that as it worked really well for me.

Remember Mickelson also did it for a few months and it worked very well for him also.

I stand behind my PP and see what theirs does. much easier than guessing or aimpoint..

So your playing with a 22hc player who's putting stroke won't be as good as yours he possibly won't start it online or have the speed and your going to watch his putt??

Do you hole many then

I think Scooter might have been taking the p......... :D

I usually do a Camillo Vilegas and line it from the ground.

Then i imagine theres a coloured line (a bit like Tiger woods golf game on PS3) and believe the line I've picked is the right line and try to commit.

It works at times but i'd say theres an element of guesswork/luck aswell.

I always take into account the general lie of the land around the green. Greens tend to slope the same way so water can drain off. A green cut into a hill, may look relatively flat, but it can be an optical illusion. A lot of greens seem to slope from back to front. Well ours do anyway.

Once I am on the green I do try and get a quick look from both sides, especially from just behind the hole, as that is where the putt will break the most as the ball is going the slowest.

That explains the 6 hour rounds then.

Personally I'd swear by Aimpoint but I know the OP wasn't interested in the chart version. Some interesting articles on the quicker and easier Express read which may help

Disclaimer: please can this not be Aimpoint based - I have neither the time nor the inclination to learn this method - thanks.

Looks like it was Aimpoint as a whole

Anyway onto the Op - how about a combination of the roly poly and the Villegas ? Forward role into the crouch position he does :D

Have a look at what I said above regarding the actual hole itself. Look to see if one side of the hole is higher than the other, that will give you a clue as to what the ball will do at the holeside
Cheers for the little tip :)
I read the line as normal this morn then had a little look at the cup and adjusted my aim slightly based on the hole. no 3 putts and sunk 3 1 putts for 4 par's

Very welcome, glad it helped

This Plumb Bobbing looks like a good idea. I grew up playing Leaderboard on the Spectrum and I had visual clues to help me. I look at the grass and I'll be honest, I don't have a clue.

Plumb bobbing looks like a very good way of seeing which way the break lies, as that is what I generally have trouble with.

Today though I had a put from the back of a Mackenzie green, I missed by about 10ft to the right, although was the right weight.

So as nobody was behind me I holed out then spent 5 minutes trying to read it.

I managed to figure out that I had to go off the green slightly for it to roll back down the hill and towards the hole. It was an almost impossible line to make the putt from.
