The old timers play this shot all the time with a 7 iron. They get them really close quite often.
They play a scootery running game which is alot different to your average golfer. It takes quite a bit of skill. We will all be playing it before long.![]()

Just to tweak the question would you play the same shot on a links where the ground was baked and the green was very undulating?
However, as I indicated in my response I think there are situations where the run might be more predictable than the bounce although maybe not in the precise scenario in Bobs OP.
