Hi guys

I've just ordered a new set of Mizuno's.
4-7 MP58
8-PW MP 68
all with Project X 5.5 (stiff) shaft, + 1/2 inch, 1 degree flat

the weird thing is, two years ago I was fitted by the same people for Mizuno Mp57's and had Project X 6.5 (extra stiff)+ 1 inch and 2 degrees upright!!

Im 29 years old so I cant see that I've suddenly lost so much strength or swing speed to drop from 6.5 to 5.5, and have my arms suddenly got longer that i only need + 1/2 inch and not a full inch???

On top of that, 2 degrees upright to 1 degree flat? what the heck's going on?
Now I'm wondering if they were wrong the last time, or are they wrong this time?

I don't want to make an expensive mistake.

It would be difficult to say without before/after shots of your swing. A change to your posture/address/swing could make such a difference.

My inital thought was that maybe the "standard" length/lie had changed from MP57's to the newer clubs but I've checked and they are the same.
So either your swing characteristics have changed or one of the fittings is wrong.
If I were you I'd go back, express your concerns and ask them to recheck the figures. As you say, you don't want to make an expensive mistake.

In the space of 6 months I had two custom fittings.

Mizuno - 1inche longer and 4deg upright.

Ping - 1 inch longer and 2.5 deg upright.

But then I know I have an rubbish swing so probably changes by the minute with me.

IMO: the Pings were/are better.

I found the standard specs on AP2s to be more upright than the MP60s I had before. As a result the AP2s had to be adjusted to lie 1 degree flat even though am 6ft tall. Came as a surprise to me but they work a treat and seem to sit perfectly.

Previously I have a set of Pings that were 1 degree upright and at the time they suited my swing. In the intevening period my ball striking has improved and I'm now more consistent and obviously have a slightly different set up position.

When I went for mine the fitter told me that Mizuno's are normally 1 degree flatter than other brands.

i play golf a lot with fraser, Doubles partners, imo his swing is a little flatter on his backswing than it used to be but nothing too serious, his ball stiking has always been good and hits it a country mile, does this merit a 4 degree and 1.5 inch change on his set up?

Thanks for all your feedback.

I guess the true test will come in the results. The length of shaft may be a factor is the stiffness I'm thinking. For example the 6.5's are 1 inch longer than standard, so that would make them a little less stiff wouldn't it? (shortening your driver length for example makes the shaft play stiffer). Maybe going to 1/2 inch longer means I don't need 6.5s any longer?

I hope it doesn't widen my dispersion rate...
