Horrible Tee Shot

Our 1st is a psycologically difficult tee shot but really isn't. Its a slight dog-leg right to left. Ditch running diagonally left to right so the short carry is towards the corner. Trees right and left and a ditch running up the right side after the cross-ditch.
You need between a 160 and 200 yard carry to clear the cross-ditch. Too far left and you're in the trees, too far right and you either run out of fairway or you're in the trees again.
Really its an ordinary 3 wood to the middle but get it wrong and you're buggered. Most lay-up with a 7 or 6 iron, punt it down with a hybrid/longish iron and then try to chip'n'putt for the par.
You need to be confident of your driving to take it on.

I think I'm going to need to do a project (on here) about ridiculous holes that are more or less impossible to play without a perfect tee shot. As there are some at mine that are currently damaging my h'cap,...

My course requires you to play 17 good tee shots, there's only one hole where it doesn't matter if you are left/right side of the fairway. A 12+ h/capper wouldn't find it too hard to play their h/cap but if you are thinking about putting a good score together then you have to find the right spots.

17 tricky tee shots, that sounds harsh.
From the way you describe it, I'm intrigued you think a 12 h'cap could play to h'cap.

i.m.o. there is a difference between "tight" driving holes and holes that tuck tees away into places where any tee shot over 200+ yards requires deliberate shaping.

I played an away game today and there wasn't a single hole where you HAVE to play a draw or fade....either (or straight) would work. I missed a few fairways, but still had a shot to the green. No sideways chipping, no 4 irons off the tee to keep the ball in play, only 1 double-bogey after sticking my 3rd shot (wedge) into a bunker and narrowly missed up and down.....

It really comes to something when a decidedly average player (me) can knock a ball around an Open Qualifying course off the back tees and make 38 points, but not be able to get cut on a straightforward short course I play every week.

I despair....I really do.

I'm playing Hawkstone on Wednesday (hopefully) where you don't get punished too badly and then on Friday, I'm playing at the other club in my town. If I don't manage 82 or less on both, I'll be most surprised.....

kid2, a 4-i will get me about 185 and the middle of the fairway, on a good day it will draw nicely round and leave me about a 9-i in.

a 5-i, will get me 170+ but too much draw is wet

The 15th at my place, par 5 extreme dog leg.Elevated tee shot running out to rough at 250ish yards leaving the same again to the green.Internal O/B all round the fairway, it does not suit my fade cracking hole though, I just cannae play it.

http://www.kings-acregolf.com/course/index.html The par 5 fifteenth hole is the one which is remembered by most at Kings Acre. This hole doglegs sharply from left to right with out of bounds bordering the entire right hand side of the hole. The landing area from the tee is wider than it looks, so aim for the left half of the fairway. Play this hole as a three shot par 5 and you should avoid any real disasters. Proceed with caution on this potential card wrecker
