I've mentioned on here a couple of times that there's one drive at my place you ideally need a draw for, and I can't (intentionally) hit one.

Played this morning and thought I'd take a picture to show it better than my words can describe.

The hole is 410 from the whites, with the first 250 being uphill.
The big trees on the left are about 100yds from the tee, and the big trees on the right start at about 200 and go to around 270.

As you can see, if you can't hit a draw and don't hit high enough to go over the tree on the left, it's not a very big gap to thread your ball inbetween.
It's even worse if your bad shot is a slice!

I suppose the sensible thing to do is hit hybrid or long iron off the tee, but with the drive being slightly uphill it would leave as long again to the green.

Any tee shots that fill you with fear at your place?

Region ,
Try taking a shorter option off the tee for a change and see how you fair out.....You might surprise yourself....Play to your strenghts......

Having said that there's one hole at our club that really bugs me......
Its a severe dogleg right...with OOB all down the left and trouble all down the right of the lake..Off the tee you have to carry 1 lake which if your long enough is maybe a 4 iron or a 3 for a strong hitter.....The fairway that needs to be hit falls back towards the tee and the lake so you need to be at the top otherwise you have a sloping lie 150-160 mtrs from a raised green in which another lake has to be carried to reach......Oh and also its a 2 tier green guarded on the right by a big tree and a bunker and on the left by a bunker.....You'll do well to earn your par(4) and if its windy its usually into your face on your approach.....

Its been my nemisis for the past few rounds....

It may just be the pic but it looks like you can almost ht straight up the middle from the right side of the tee box.

Yes you can hit straight up the middle, and that's what I normally try to do. It's just that a straight shot that's not within about 20' of the tree on the left will run into the trees on the right unless you hit it like a girl.

Region3...After todays round....every single tee shot, every shot after that and every single putt!!!
Dreadful dose of the 'shermans'led to N/R on no.4.
Wound up walking round with 2 mates while they played
(did'nt want to hold them up looking for my efforts,or more importantly affect their games)
Agree that that is one tough looking baby to start with,if you can hit a draw then you're in play....but if not then??????????????
Jimbo    :D

Have you tried putt, putt, wedge, driver?

There's a ditch just short of the left side trees which runs all the way across in front of you, so I'd have to hit the wedge first.
Other than that it sounds like a solid plan :D

I've thought about hitting 5 or 6 iron off the tee and playing it as a 5, but I just can't make myself do it.

It looks like i'd be aiming for the left hand side of the right hand trees with a slight draw. Can't you even draw it just a tiny little bit?
From that picture though it doesn't look a hard hole to me, at least 12 of the holes at my place are tighter than that and require more shot shaping. Probably why I can't put a decent score together.

I think I'm going to need to do a project (on here) about ridiculous holes that are more or less impossible to play without a perfect tee shot. As there are some at mine that are currently damaging my h'cap, I be keen to post some piccies myself.
If I played off 18, I really wouldn't care. BUT we have a couple that I don't even get shots on that are bar stewards.
I bogeyed them all today, they're not long either....SO frustrating.

Not guaranteed, no.

Sounds like a good job I don't play there then! :o

Would it be annoying to say that I have a natural draw off the tee and that hole looks like an ideal drive.

The 4th at Woodham GC is a short severe dogleg right and its my worst nightmare. Its made for a slice.

I do like my natural draw though.....

Boast over!

got something similar at ours, though shorter (and flatter - we don't do uphill). 12th par 4 dog-leg left round a lake, trees at around 160 on the corner, too long and too straight off the tee and it's OOB and the river on the farside of the fairway. (what is it with putting OOB along a river bank?)

it is possible to drive the lake - just, but the carry is around 220 and tight so too risky. I go for 4-i off the whites and pray for the draw - really nice when it works. (there are those that try, and one or two succeed, in reaching the green - it's a severe dog-leg)

My course requires you to play 17 good tee shots, there's only one hole where it doesn't matter if you are left/right side of the fairway. A 12+ h/capper wouldn't find it too hard to play their h/cap but if you are thinking about putting a good score together then you have to find the right spots.

Hey Viscount.
Im no expert here but why not play whatever club gets you about 170 and then you'll be lookin in at the green......Im off 18 and thats the way i would play it if its that tight ;)
