I've been fortunate to have two Holes in One at my home course. One was a short par three where I saw the ball flight, the landing and the ball drop into the hole. Wonderfull sight. The other was at a blind par three so I didn't see a thing, thought the ball was through the green, but...
never had a hole in one yet.2ft the closest medium par 3 hit 6 iron looked right at it in the air but stopped dead upon landing cos of the soft conditions.ian mc
A month after I joined my present club. October medal 2004. A well struck 7 iron. 2 bounces and in.
I had just four-putted the previous green for double bogey so I guess the putts were just averaging out!
I won the medal, too.
Had an albatross on the par 5 18th at Nairn Dunbar about 20 years ago but it's a blind approach so didn't see it go in the hole. Never have felt that that one counted for some reason.
The closest I came was on a 160 yard downhill par 3. took a 7 iron, looked for all the money that it was going in, it landed 3 inches infront of the hole and decided to take up residence in its own pitchmark. Gutted
Never had one but plenty of close shaves, closest was on a slight downhill 203 yard par 3 hit a sweet 5 iron to 4 inches, I could not see the bottom of the pin but knew it was going to be close.
just the one - with an awful shot at the 4th hole on the Griffin Course at Cottesmore - 190 yard par 3 - hit a big pull with a 6 iron (it was downwind) which hit a bank to the left of the green shot it across the green towards a hedge and OB - hit the flag stick and dropped in!
i feel ashamed as a fellow golfer telling this story. now that i know how hard it is and how people never get an ace in all there golfing days, i actually got one in my first ever 18 hole game with a borrowed set of clubs, borrowed shoes etc oh and it was wilson killer whale balls, i was invited by then mates about 10 years ago for an outing to Rothsay GC. it was a down hill par three i teed off it hit the base of the hill and was rolling to the left of the pin and with the contour of the green it rolled in, one mate was quite peeved cos he had been playing for years and never had one but he got over it
Just the one. Watched the flight and the roll and I thought it had stopped so bent down to pick up the tee and missed seeing it disappear. Fortunately it was late on a summers evening and by the time we got back to the clubhouse there were only the four of us there.
2 eagles, both on par 5's. The first was a misdirected approach shot that hit something left of the green and the other was a long lucky pitch.
my closest was roughly a 135 yard par 3, that was into the strongest wind ive ever played against. I would usually take an 8 iron into this green which has a 120 yard carry over water. However the wind was so strong i opted for my 24* nike slingshot rescue, and hit it with just over a 3/4 swing. The club normally has a nice high flight and it did again, looked like it was going way over the green but the wind held it right up and it litterally stopped in mid air, fell out of the sky and pitched 2 inches away from the hole! My round was going well at this stage, having birdied the previous hole which is stroke index 1, just a shame the ball didn't role back 2 inches!
Got mine in August last year.
Just joined my club the month before. It was late on and getting dusky. On the par 3 18th I hit a nice shot which I knew was greenward bound. The ball disappeared into the evening dusk, I didn't see it land.
We walked over to the green and couldn't see the ball. Looked all round with no success until my partner found it in the hole! (Didn't even think of looking there)
Fortunately there was nobody else on the course and the clubhouse was empty - saved a fortune!
Never had one but I would be devastated if I ever got one that was blind. That must be the worst case of mixed emotions imaginable. 90% of the joy from an ace must come from the anticipation of the ball roling toward the hole.
Came close last week, my pitchmark was literally an inch before the hole, one bounce and the ball spun back to 4 ft. holed the birdie putt but had mixed emotions !!!
