I used to play golf with my Dad when I was a teenager. Now that he has passed, I have started to play again. Takes a while to remember. After a few aches and pains and a terrible first round, I have started to improve. Recently, I beat my son in match play, got my first par in 40 years and recorded a decent round. Do you have any advice for an older guy who wants to develop? I was never a handicap golfer when I was younger and I reckon I’m around 30 or so at this time.

Have a few lessons with a pro to get some very good habits built in. Pros love working with people who have less bad habits engrained in over years so you could benefit greatly

I'd second post #2. Also, don't try to follow the pro's and smash the backside out of the ball. At our level, an easier swing with a better connection is the answer.

If you want to add something else to the list, practice your chipping and putting as much, if not more, than the rest of your game. That will make a huge difference to your scoring.

Welcome aboard 👍

I do use a half swing and limited clubs at the moment which is giving me more control. Not too bothered about distance at this time. I seem to get a lot on the fairway so that is helping. I bump with a 9 around the green as well. Putting is ok. I think I will get lessons soon, especially as I have am a teacher and have some time at the beginning of the holidays.

If you are using the clubs from 40 years ago - there have been big changes in clubs since then, for example most shafts are now much lighter to suit slower swinger swingers.

They are newer clubs that I bought from my son in laws friend. I bought a decent bag and bargain trolley from FB market place and have some money left for some pro lessons. Looking forward to this second chance and think I may improve snd enjoy at this stage in my life!

Lessons, short game and most importantly just enjoy it. The best sport and hobbie in the world regardless of how you’re hitting it
