Been a wee while, but had to take a year out due to an ankle injury.
Went back onto the course I play regularly. (Pytchley) to book a 9 hole via the online system and all of a sudden "1 ball not allowed" so i can no longer book a round. Checked for terms and conditions, nothing. checked club rules nothing.
Why is playing alone so frowned upon?

Just guessing but maybe due to demand for tee times with availability reduced by too many 1-ball bookings

Maybe if you phone they'll pair you up with other 1 / 2's

We can book as a single but it is laid down that you can have other people join you - but they should contact you before out of courtesy

We can book as a single but anyone can join you. Until 4 names are down the booking remains open to all. No need for anyone to message and ask to join, they just add their names.

We can book as a single and it stays as a single. I would not out of courtesy and for speed considerations book as a single at busier times.

That seems a really daft idea, no matter the reasons for it. Clubs will sure lose those that have no regular mates they play with. At ours we can book any number from 1 to 4, on the understanding that anyone can join the group later if you haven't filled the time slot.

Can book as a single as I often wish to have a solo knock, but have to accept that one or more others may ask to join me. It's deemed a pretty essential courtesy to make contact and ask before booking in with someone or another 2 or 3 ball with a space.

Seems silly - unless the restriction is only at busiest times (in which case fair enough).

I often book as a single but only do so on quiet PM sessions (self-interest as well as courtesy; better for me as I can play at singles pace, better for everyone else as I don't take up a popular tee time with just one person). No special instructions. In theory somebody else COULD book with me on those times but as there are generally other free slots it's very unlikely.

Our app allows one person but the other 3 slots are open for others to book

9 single golfers would fully book a 9 hole course
