playing in last weeks medal, i started of good, -1 handicap through 5 holes, and come to the par 3 6th i,

i take 6iron and block the tee shot right, ball is about 50yards from the green, in a depression below the greens level,

2nd shot i choose a 7 iron to punch it just above the crest and roll it towards the green, instead i duff it into the ruff, and cant find it to save my life,

4th shot i punch it out but too far right into green side bunker

5th shot fail to get out of bunker

6th shot out of bunker over green 20 yards away

7th shot pitch to green a fair whack from the flag

8th i lag putt to about 5 ft

9th putt lips out

10th i tap it in,

was absolutly gutted and never got back into the round after that, just couldnt pick myself up

what was your last hole from hell?

Haven't had anything quite that bad for a while now, think the last time was about this time last year when I put in my first card at my golf club for my handicap. 7th hole, par 5 dog leg right, out of bounds pretty much the whole way down the right hand side. Stuck a couple OB, knobbed a couple of shots, skulled a chip, ended up with a 9 from memory.

Haven't had any disaster holes recently, but my friend did with me on the 3rd on the 2010 course. It's about 150 carry over water and he smacks 3 balls with the same club into the water. Ended up with a 9

Drive sliced into some rubbish, two hacks to get it out, shank from rough and lost ball, scuffed iron, another 2 diffs onto the green, then a 3 putt to stick it in for a 7 over par 11. That was a fun hole.

Accidents happen and we have all had them on the course. Whilst youre effectively out of the comp, for handicapping purposes this is reduced to a net double, so you are walking off +1 to your handicap. So dont give up as you can still earn a handicap cut. And if you do recover from such an accident to achieve a cut you should feel mighty proud!

3rd hole of my 36 hole PGA playing test (stroke play)
Par 5
Nice 3 wood :)
cut 2 iron :(
Thinned a 50 yrd bunker shot into the trees behind the green:(
Provisional from the bunker hit the lip and kicked right into a dry lateral ditch.:(
Hacked out:)
Pitched too long just off the back:(
Staring a 9 in the face
Find the first ball in the trees unplayable:)
Back to the bunker.:(
Thinned again but not as bad:(
Poor chip to 12 feet :(
Holed the putt for a 7...delighted.:D:D:D

Afternoon round.... 4 :)

Not in a comp, but playing our 17th (par 3) near the end of a pretty good round. For some reason, a temp green had been put in play just over a 110 yd water carry. I proceeded to hit the bank with my first shot and roll back into deep water. "Knowing" that I had the correct club in hand (53*wedge), I then stuck another in the water. What followed was a Roy McEvoy style meltdown of epic proportions which resulted in a 15 on the card and 7 decent balls in the water. My playing partners were literally lying on the floor laughing.....

I now hit it long whenever im in doubt...

Had too many to list. It happens. Look at Lefty on the 4th on Sunday. Where did that tee hot come from. Same with McIlroy at the 10th last year. It's about damage limitation especially in a medal. Keep a big number off the card and you'll always threaten the buffer at the very least

There's a 52* wedge on sale on ebay

Today, hole 14, Par5.
Decent drive
2nd sliced right into trees
3rd hit tree and bounced back
4th 3wood low cut but didn't cut so OOB
6th cut to edge of green
7th straight through the green
8th chip to 10ft and 2 putts for a 10

Gutted and a definite round breaker!!

Pretty much the first hole of any course I am playing, anywhere at any time....especially if there are people watching. Managed to card a ten on the easy opening par four of my home course.

Walk to tee feel eyes burning into back of head
Waggle
Practice swing - all fine
Hit the textbook high slice, over the trees 60yds left - 1
Find it
Aim to lob a wedge over the trees to the fairway (safety first, take medecine), thin it into shubbery - 2
Lost
Drop and hack sideways - 4
People still watching from tee (can I hear chuckling on the breeze?)
Aim careful 8-iron towards green, hook left towards more trees, head down and rush after it - 5
Find it, chop towards green, bunker - 6
Nice splash out - 7
Three putt -10. Carpark looks like a good idea but this would mean walking back towards the first

My first ever medal round (Always prefered stablefords) and very new to golf. A short par 4, 2nd shot into the deep greenside bunker but under the lip. 3rd, 4th, 5th......................................15th, 16th, 17th, 18th shot all making the undercut of the lip bigger. By this time a large group had gathered as people came from adjoining fairways to watch. After the 19th shot when my scratch playing partner had stopped giggling like a girl he said to take an unplayable lie as he had to get home for his dinner. Got it out and 2 putted. I didn't scare the winners that day and lesson learned, dont be a hero in bunkers.

2nd shot i choose a 7 iron to punch it just above the crest?

For me that is where you lost it, a more lofted club would have been the better choice, a 9 iron pitch would be ideal, maybe a 1/2 gap.

Every hole I play is a hole from hell until I grain in my old golf swing again. I can do it on the range but I have not got confidence on the course yet. OK only played 2 18s since August so not much chance :D

Most recent was our 7th (par 4) yesterday evening in our Winter League, had played steady to handicap over the first 6 holes picking up 2 points per hole so 12 points already.

Topped my drive about 30yards to the left into long grass. Topped the recovery club for my second. Managed to hit the recovery like an arrow but fell short of the green to the right where there is s tricky ridge guarding the green and not much green to the flag. Chipped but about a foot short so held up in the ridge and it trickled to just on the green. Went for the putt but too hard, lipped out back to about 5 feet away, missed the return and then tapped in for a 7 and no points. Despite making 3 points on the next hole too much to do to card the needed 18 to improve my standing in the League as the course is 9 holes!

Kicking myself since for topping the drive but deep down I know there were other changes to pick up more than 2 points earlier in the round!!

I have 2 holes round our place where I have butterflies standing on the tee.

Addressing the ball with a feeling of fear is NOT a good thing.

So this isn't normal?
Maybe I need some more lessons...

Last week.

480 yard par 5.

1st - Nailed my 3 wood but it hit a tree that guards the corner (slight dogleg right to left). Ended up just below the tree on a terrible lie
2nd - tried to hit my 3 hybrid and get it down the fairway. Double crossed myself and hit it into the trres on my left.
3rd - hit a tree and ended up further away in deep rough
4th - barely advanced it through the rough
5th - chopped out to 150 yards
6th - 6 iron to front of two tiered green. (pin at the back)
7th - 1st putt barely made the 2nd level, lucky not to roll back down.
8th - 15 footer to 2 feet.
9th - tap in

Not had double figures for a while!!!

How many balls did you dump in the drink before realising that wedge was the wrong club?

I would still be dumping them in there now if I hadn't finally flushed one to 6ft. In the end, the hole cost me 7 srixon ad333's. Looking back, its quite clear that it was the wrong club, but at the time it was a complete mental block. I still get ribbed about it.

I had an 11 on our par 5 5th in today's medal.. I was +5 thru 4 and striking well..

1st. Hooked hybrid over the stream and into our 15th tee box at an angle
2nd. 56 wedge back on the 5th, 50 yards to fairway and landed a yard short of fairway
3rd. 5 wood, skied 75 yards, anyone would have though it was a lob wedge
4th. 5 wood 220 leaving 16 yard chip and run for par
5th. 9 iron, chip and run...SHANK! 90 degrees right and into the bunker next to me.
6/7/8 trying to get out bunker.
9. 20 foot putt 5 feet short,
10. Lipped ou.
11. In.
