Hey Everyone,

After hours (days really) spent here lurking I decided to join in and say a hearty hello!

Matt here from west London!

I've been wanting to get into golf for a while now and January will be when I'll bite the bullet.
I have researched coaches both on google and gumtree. There seem to be a massive price difference ranging from £10 to £100 for a lesson (also varies from 30minutes to 1h) with the average being £30 from what I've noticed.

I'd say I'd like to spend ~£500 on my first golf set, is that feasible?

I'm a complete noobie, I don't own any gold equipment or clothing but I'm eager to learn and I have the time.
Living in Kensington there is Holland Park Golf School - anyone knows it?

Any advice on how to start up or coach recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you're in Kensington you aren't that far from Dukes Meadows next to Chiswick Bridge, which has teaching pros, range and 9 hole course. I have never played there, but it does seem quite popular. Another I know about although never tried them is the Knightsbridge Golf School in Lowndes Square. I have heard some good things about them, but that is all I know other than they are under the houses. If you're in Kensington then I imagine you will know of Lowndes Square and know what I mean:)

Yeah, i know of both actually. Duke Meadows was something I was considering.

Knightsbridge golf I know of. Is it worth doing simulators first?

Thanks!

Most golf professionals will be able to provide some clubs for a lesson. Personally I'd opt for somewhere like Dukes Meadow where you can watch the balls rather than hitting into a net and relying on a launch monitor. Just my preference but as long as you get lessons initially and get the basics right you'll be fine

Welcome aboard, get stuck in, don't worry about being a noobie, there's plenty on here that have played for years but would easily pass as noobies 😂😂😂

At Dukes Meadow, if having a lesson, they give you the club(s) you need. But it is a bucket of balls on top if the lesson is on the range.

When going to the range by yourself they charge £2 a club, and they have quite a selection there. When spending some money in the shop (£50 range card for 10 buckets; some golf shoes; a couple of tops) at the same time I usually got the club rental for free that time.

It is missing a bit of a short play area. There is a putting green but in current conditions is usually closed, and always closed in the dark. There is a chip area for lessons, but I don't think it is accessible otherwise.

Still thinking about yesterday's PP's then

Welcome my friend, I think you will get more from an initial lesson with a pro on the range, nothing beats seeing that ball arc away (or so I have been told). If you will travel for an hour there are one or two good coaches near to me (J6 of the A1 at WGC).

Have fun on the Forum there are some good people on hear, apart from Fish

Ah that's good to know!

I was worried it may be a little bit like gym environment and as I'm not the fittest (to say the least) nerd I don't much enjoy other people in the same work out facility!

I will be looking into it for this / next week then to get some coaching ;-)

My first lesson will be today at 11.30! Pretty excited.

Having done my research I'm pretty excited also about either Taylor made rsi 1 or callaway big berthas irons, a big bertha v driver and some hybrids.
Obviously I'll take the pros input from tomorrow but I think I fell in love a little with those clubs :-))

You are going to be pretty pushed to get a set of RS1 irons, the driver and hybrids for £500.00 fella.
Don't know about the Callaway irons, never hit them. I have got the RS1's and love them.
Good luck with your lesson by the way

Yeah, my budget has extended a little 🙊🙈
After doing a TON of research the past few days though it's better to spend a little more, get best what I can afford and when my swing is consistent in a few months - get them fitted.
