Having trouble with your driver?

As commented on the thread the other day it's something im aware of, but as you rightly pointed out "staying back" isn't probably the best terminology to use.

I was trying this very thing last night, and hitting it miles. It has merit. I did get a bit over enthused towards the end, and developed a nasty snap hook though.

Is Tiger the best example to use :)

Apart from that, very interesting. Always good to have pictures to ingrain an idea. This is definately something I need to take on board, my hips go a long way forward in the downswing.

Not hitting a driver, but.....

I "try" and hit against my left hand side and get the hips moving forward, and turning through the downswing.

Maybe for the driver I'm not moving the hips far enough forward and hanging back, or, I'm stopping moving my hips forward at some point and cutting across the ball?

Interesting points those pictures make Bob

Like the pictures Bob. Funnily enough in a lesson I had the other week my pro said to me I need to do this, but not quite so extreme with my irons as I was very much weighted to my left side (right-handed). I already did this with the driver but he said it has to be even more so. I now find myself setting up at the ball, then moving so I feel like I'm leaning to my right, and then turn my head slightly so that it's more my left eye looking at the ball.

Seems to work for me, although can produce a bit of a hook every now and then.

Bob, what would you call this position and swing thought to action it?

I'm prone to getting ahead with the hips, stopping and hands flipping causing the dreaded pull snap hook so this is very useful

Another thing that was pointed out to me was the line between the shoulder and club head that, with the exception of a couple, those pictures demonstrate.

Was something a pro was trying to get me to work on but I never quite managed it :(

Bob - Forgive me if I'm being ignorant here, but I tried this snap and it worked quite well a year ago and it did turn into a bit of a hook. However my thought now (ala Leadbetter) is to push my right knee into my left imagining that I have a pair of symbols attached to my knees and want to crash them together! This keeps my hips moving through nicely?

Also I saw an article last month by Alvaro Quiros in the GM mag (with Mr Ellwood i think) stating that he imagines that he his hitting against a brick wall and everything comes in line at this point.
