Re: have you used a 1 iron?

Yea, Had a bronty model years ago before I quit for a while, such a small head though, I cant remember what ever happened to it.

I have a two iron which I used for a bit when I first started as I couldn't hit my driver at all! I've not used it in a while but I still carry it about. I played a 9 hole course with a 200yd par 3 that I used it on recently...only just reached the front edge of the green with it. It was nice to use, I hit quite straight with it which was the bonus of using it over my driver at the time. I couldn't even begin to hit it off the floor though! then again, I sometimes struggle hitting my 9 iron off the floor so I think that is on me more than the club :D

Yes both 1 and 2 irons..

Love them, if you hit the ball hard, hitting a long iron rather than a wood is a pretty forgiving way to play from the tee

Callaway Big Bertha 1 iron
Wilson something 1 iron
Wilson CRAZY SHALLOW 2 iron
Benross 1 iron i think

Thats all i can think off, love the 1 iron
OOPS.. I had a ping zing 1 iron (Went straight to reply and did not notice this is what you had)

Callaway had a graphite shaft and was the best for sure.

They need to be HIT.. you cannot put a pretty slow swing on a 1 iron and expect to hit it well, they are not for everyone

years ago i had a McGregor 1 iron ,i used it when i needed a low shot into the wind ,i could hit it quite straight and it would roll out a long way ,more recently i had a set of swilken irons given to me that had a 1 iron included in the set ,it was practically unused ,the first time i tried to hit it i absolutely nailed it ,a real picture postcard shot if ever there was one ,every time since that one shot i havent hit it any sense at all.

Re: have you used a 1 iron?

Horrible things unless i need a shot to go 200 yds 0.75µm above the grass. Largely consigned to history along with smallpox and rightly so.

I've got a 1980s RAM Golden Ram Tom Watson Grind 1 iron in my garage. I used to find it incredibly difficult to hit but last year played with a guy who teed off with a 1i and he was unerringly straight and long off the tee. I started hitting a 3i regularly off tee last year - with great results. Will I dig the 1i out? - not to sure. May do so and give it a go.

Re: have you used a 1 iron?

i hit a fast and hard swing, im going to take it out to the range tonight and try a few off the deck and see what happens :D im not expecting anything good, but its one of them things where ive looked at it and thought.... yeah i could do that :')

Yes. Badly.

Best used for spreading butter on your toast in the mornings

the way i see it is whats the worse that can happen! if it works then brilliant but if not theres nothing lost... except for my £15 :D

Its ALMOST mandatory to swing over 100mph to even consider a 1 iron, but for harder hitters they can be great

I found hitting hybrids there was way less understanding of where the ball would finish v hitting a 1 iron

I had a Callaway Big Bertha 1 iron that I actually sold last year on ebay for an okay sum considering its age. Glorious club on the 1 hit in 8 when I hit it well, it goes like a rocket. You have to be a VERY good ball striker to get away with one of these. If you are then snap one up and enjoy it. If not then steer clear, it is not worth the pain.

I've hit a modern 1 iron, the md driving iron with graphite shaft, ok to hit, easy enough to get airbourne but not as long as my 5w, I could carry my 4 hybrid as far at the time.
Like it's been suggested I think you would need a high ss to get the most out of it.

i think my swing speed is a fraction over 110, something like that, when i was fitted for my 3 wood i caught a glimpse of the screen even though i really didn't want to know it! ive also hit one of them Shewy, and i found the same, although it was regular and i need stiff so that made a difference. its was a Cobra Driving iron and it was just a pretty redundant club. this was about 5 years ago now and my game has changed alot since so im actually holding some hope! this seems alot different from the driving iron i used before though, that had a hybrid feel to it whereas this feels like a proper old school iron!

If like most people you don't get on with it, it makes a great cane for the runner beans !!

I have used a 2-iron in the past, but it was more like a modern jacked down loft 4-iron! Not that difficult to hit, especially off the tee or a good lie. :)

It's my go to club for tee shots if I need to hit the fairway. Been using it more and more lately and very pleased with the results.
It's a modern Mizuno design so fairly easy to hit even though it's only 16 deg loft.

I used to carry a Mizzy TP original 1 iron but foolishly sold it 18 months ago after a few poor outings with it.

it was great for playing in windy conditions as it had a great low ball flight

I have 2, A Sounder SB IV and a Macgregor Tourney.
I hit the Mac last summer on our slightly uphill range into a club&half wind and nailed 3 on the bounce with a 2 yard penetrating draw. Lasered them at 220 and 5 yards apart. Felt like soft butter off the face needless to say I put it down before the bad un's turned up.
The sounder tho is smaller and thinner soled then the Mac.
